90125 was released the year I graduated high school. Everyone in the "New Wave" music industry joked about the band of geriatrics putting out a new album. That laughter stopped the day the album dropped because (in my opinion) Yes had created the best New Wave-ish album of all time. When the Chicago based radio station WLUP played the first single, the disc jockey was left speechless for at least 30 seconds after the song. He followed that silence by asking, "What the hell just happened"? The album hit #1 within two days of its release and remained at that spot for six months. Pretty impressive for geriatrics.
@@chopperdeath I love both 90125 and BG. Honestly I love all of the Rabin era material. I like BG a little better than all of them and that is mostly due to the songs I’m Running, Final Eyes and Shoot High Aim Low. Talk is one of their most underrated albums.
Yeah, I also love the song "Hearts". Strangely it doesn't get mentioned much by others. It's a great track that actually has everything in it that makes 90125 a great album in general: Great vocals, great guitar playing, beautiful keyboard parts and interesting movements in the song. It's a masterpiece.
I have to agree with you there I don't think there's anybody now that can match him. I also think that yes is very very underrated, compared to their old old stuff 60,70s in regards to leave it very different style.
I agree, However Chris knew EntWhistle CREATED the electric bass guitar. Rabin’s 3.5 albums deserve special treatment- like Dio 4 albums of Black Sabbath AKA Heaven & Hell.
Love your reaction. Yes is positive, and transformative, meditative and spiritual. There are lots of great bands, but Yes is so unique that I hope they continue to touch future generations.
@Alicia Encaderada Don't forget that as we pass through City of Love and get Close to the Edge we'll enjoy Our Song as I've Seen All Good People do so many times before.
90125 is one of only a handful of albums I've ever owned or heard that has no dead space. Good from start to finish. No skip-able songs. Truly a masterpiece and update to Yes' sound to match the music climate of the times.
Fun to watch her discover this music. She has little idea of what a great sonic experience awaits her and digs it! These guys all had it in spades. Long live YES.
I love both of these songs, and I especially love seeing you both react to them. You two seem to be truly in love, and seeing you both react to a song together is just so precious to me. I really enjoy this channel.
I listened to that album so much I wore the cassette out. That and Rush were playing all the time on my awesome Panasonic Walkman with Dolby, auto reverse and 5 band equalizer. 😁 that whole album as well as the Big Generator album is great. And I saw ARW live and they sound just as good now. Jon's voice is still the same. Brings back so many memories
I went to this concert in Seattle and it was a blast. The only other one was when I took my daughter to see Moody Blues Live at the gorge amphitheatre. That was fun and Iv got to tell you Kel's reactions are so like my kids that night. She now has every song Moody blues has out. lol
In my eyes you can't have Rock without Classical and you can't have Classical without all other kinds of music. All of it goes hand in hand with each other. They all need each other. This is a proven fact.
Back in 1985 I was at a dark hopeless place in my life and one night I heard this song and Jon's voice was like a beacon of hope. It helped me climb back up.
Agreed. I haven't heard this album in over a decade. It's still just as good to me now as it was then. I love Yes because they showed me so many things about how to produce music. The layers of elements that combine to create a production. Thanks for sharing..!
I have been listening to Yes for damn near a half of century, and I still get excited listening to them to this day, Kel seems to enjoy them, and I love seeing that
Jon Anderson sings like an angel, Steve Howe is a guitar player like no other, Chris Squire is a master of rhythm, and Bruford and white holds it all together
You HAVE TO watch the video for this song (Leave it). It's just them standing there singing but they are up side down. When the music starts their heads and bodies do all sorts of weird shit.
Kel, Yes was finally inducted into Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. One original member was unable due to his death, bassist, Chris Squire whom Rich was imitating. In his place, one of their buddies from Rush, Geddy Lee played their set during 2017's Ceremony.
So happy this 90125 was released in1983. I was a 17yr old then....and it "revived inspiration and positivity...." . ...especially for me...since I was committed to playing varsity basketball back then.... my first of 2 years. Great post thx Kel n Rich !!!
I've been on 2 of the Cruise to the Edge sailings 2013 and 2014. Squire was still alive. They were awesome. If you go be ready to have your mind blown at the intimacy with the musicians.
Between Chris Squire's bass and the background vocals at the end(laaaa la la la laaaaa), It Can Happen does something to me that is absolutely awesome!
I absolutely love It Can Happen-- it is just a transcendental song with its structure, tonal & rhythm shifts, and the harmonies of the vocals. The whole 90125 album is phenomenal, and the followup Big Generator is IMO just as good.
I work at Alpine valley Wisconsin. I've been working there since I was a youngster. I worked every ozzfest. Watching the bands coming up and being successful was great. The place where stevie ray Vaughan lost his life 😢 when I pull into work I feel privileged to work there.
Great review, great song GREAT album. Hey, #Thomas Dolby #Keys To Her Ferrari/Aliens Ate My Buick #Kel will love this...... # White Bird # Beautiful Day..... Touches my heart....sixties hippie band...
Two great great songs!!!!! 😄👍😄 saw them when album was just hitting on all cylinders and they opened with “Leave It” - i was standing front row arms over the stage divider/barrier(Spring ‘84 i think) - Lakeland Civic Center - one of my top 3 concerts ever!
Sorry for your loss Rich, I lost a son to complications from cerebral palsy, life is like a vapor of smoke, and I know you appreciate all the days you had together,God bless you guys
I remember hearing this and reading in the magazines how the production values on this album and particularly this song really raised the bar for recording. I still love this song (Leave It) very much.
Hi Kel and Rich! nice to see you have dived in some of my childhood music. I know Yes had their agenda in terms of their lyrics and so, but I haven't ever heard of kindness that can kill... even though one mastermind and musician ones wrote. I respect both sides. Take care!
So glad you returned to do more YES, from 90125. Kel's reactions are so genuine, reading her face. I appreciated her feedback for "changes". Honest. I love this entire album, but her insight made sense. Thanks!!
Yes is my favourite band. I'm happy to see you (Kel) listen to their material for the first time! Also, great shirt Rich. My Wife and I have the same one!
Still amazed at the influence Trevor had on their sound.. saw them play this album live in Seattle back in the day.. sounded incredible! Great reaction!!
Yes, as the name implies is a reflection of the positive and you will find that theme, message, and feeling conveyed almost universally throughout their music.
Soy fan de Yes !! Este álbum es maravilloso !! Lo amo !! Ese Yes fue tremendo aporte para la década de los 80 ! Seguro está entre los 5 mejores álbumes de ese año ! Rock con algunos toques de pop !!
It has been a while since I have listened to this album also. I can say this though, they really did set out to use really different and unique instruments in each of their songs and to showcase them individually. Each song was put together very well and came together in a very different way with this version of the band than with the older version of the band and it still has a very distinctive sound that makes it very much their own sound.
Leave It had 13 Versions shown in 1983 on MTV and one version was not shown. Only one version was chosen that week. BTW,the version of Yes here was first called Cinema and marked the return of Tony Kaye a founding member of the first formation and Jon Anderson but kept Alan White,Chris Squire and introduced Trevor Rabin.
Sorry to hear about Mom. You can never replace a good mother, but you can find a substitute. Often an aunt will be there for you. My wife passed January this year, complications from Parkinsons. Thankfully - the irony of using that word - she passed in her sleep. To this day I'm still in mourning. I think I'm stuck in a phase, but really don't care.
BTW, Big Generator is like a part 2 of this epic album! Both are my GO TO for testing my car stereo (that and Pink Floyd). Chris Squire’s bass playing is Just astounding! Thanks again for reacting!!!!
Loved this album when it came out. That love has only increased over the years. I thoroughly enjoy watching you guys react to music. Kel's background gives her such a unique take. I must say I also enjoy seeing a married couple enjoying each other and sharing a passion together. Keep up the great work. Appreciation from a fellow Canucklehead.
great job guys. so glad your wife is experiencing this stuff with us. so glad your doing the 90125 album. thank you. was in choir as well in high school, Navy, and sang for most of my life, love that your expanding your horizons.
Band Maid US Tour 2019 - Sept. 26th - New York @Gramercy Theater, Sept. 28th - Dallas @Cambridge Room, Sept. 30th - Los Angeles @ECHOPLEX, Oct. 1st - Los Angeles @ECHOPLEX
This was so good to hear. Been such a long time since I've heard those two. I really hope you two get to take that rock and roll cruise!! YES is legendary.
I remember when this album came out..I was 19. The first single 96 Rock in Atlanta played was "Owner of a lonely heart " then " Leave it" ,Then "It can happen" . after those 3 songs I said I had to have this album. After I bought it I played it over and over and over. It was a masterpiece.Still own it today .Thanks so much for reacting to it.You guys are so fun to watch.
Yes is the star trek of rock. The fact that they sponsor something called "cruise to the edge" only proves that(maybe one day there will do it in space). Cruise to the edge of course is named in honor of their classic and definitive album "close to the edge."
Going to see Royal Affair Tour the 24th here in NJ, YES, ASIA, Carl Palmer's ELP experience. I love Kel's reactions and her analysis of YES, she totally gets it! We (my husband and I) have been following the band since early 1980's and still go every time they are in town, maybe we will meet you on the Cruise! ✌❤😀
12:23 - Those clean, delayed 'Gilmour-ish' guitar parts by Trevor Rabin are killer. On 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' (and to a lesser extent on 'Changes'), Trevor goes for some 'Andy Summers-esque' clean parts. Being about 10 yrs younger than Anderson, Squire, Kaye, Trevor was highly aware of the guitaristic developments that had occurred in the late 1970s (including the 'Van Halen-effect') and those informed not only his playing techniques but also his writing/arranging style.
I was in L.A. when this came out. And both A.O.R. stations were playing every cuts. There is still good proggy stuff on this lp to please a lot of the prog nerds. I first heard if Trevor Rabin in the late 70s when his south african band RABBITT came out. I realized back then he had the chops to go onto higher levels.
What a great prog rock album. Didn't read all the comments, but 90125 was actually the catalog number of the release. I was in university at the time, and working in a music store when the CD came in. It was very easy to log it in, the catalog number was the same as the title.
Don’t know if I have suggested this before, I would highly recommend Awaken by Yes. Jon Anderson said that Awaken is THE song that defines everything Yes is and stands for. The ending is celestial. Of all music of the last 50 years Yes will stand out as one for future generations as this generations classical music.
It may seem odd that I'm saying this, but after watching and enjoying so many of your videos you two are now my favorite friends online. Love to ya both!
Oh boy you're so right. This album was in my opinion their best and it was twitching between genres.
Big Generator was great as well, though not as impactful. Yes always makes colossal music.
Went thru 3 cassette tapes of this album from sheer overplaying...
@@chopperdeath I love both 90125 and BG. Honestly I love all of the Rabin era material. I like BG a little better than all of them and that is mostly due to the songs I’m Running, Final Eyes and Shoot High Aim Low. Talk is one of their most underrated albums.
In retrospect,BG is probably as good as 90125
It Can Happen - Is for me one of the most inspirational songs of all time.
"It Can Happen" helped me out of a very dark place in 1985.
I love this music... Cosmic...
YES 90125 one of the all-time best albums from the 80s...an absolute masterpiece!
Yes songs are just vocal greatness. They are like this vocal orgy that you just can't get enough of
Hearts in this álbum, and Trevor Rabin solo in this song. MAGIC !!!!!!!!!
Awesome. This period of Yes doesn't get enough respect. 90125 is great!
Classic 80's Yes. Great band RIP the great Chris Squire
God, Chris Squire was the best bassist to ever touch the instrument.
Correct, second came Jack Bruce of Cream...
Agreed. The band used to jokingly introduce Chris as performing on lead bass because he played it better than some guitarists😆.
Fish forever!
Love your reaction. Yes is positive, and transformative, meditative and spiritual. There are lots of great bands, but Yes is so unique that I hope they continue to touch future generations.
I know I am way late to the party, but that wall of sound they put out and the vocals are incredible. And also her giggle is infectious!!
Yes is a group that expands our emotions. Sharing these emotions with music is so life changing. ♥️
Well said Paul
Jon Anderson is an impeccable vocalist, first concert I ever saw was YES in 1976, will never forget that. Thanks for sharing.
It Can Happen is still one of the coolest tunes ever. There's just so much energy to it. Love how tight Yes is. Love this review. Thank you!
I think Kel is going thru some Changes and starting to like yes. It can happen so Hold On and remember Yours is No Disgrace.
Hold On is another excellent song from 90125...thanks for the reminder, Alicia.
+Alicia Encaderada Nice!
@Alicia Encaderada
Don't forget that as we pass through City of Love and get Close to the Edge we'll enjoy Our Song as I've Seen All Good People do so many times before.
..... but I insist on avoiding The Clap.
Clever.
City of love. Awesome album
I heard Jon didn't really like City of love, I do. I'll never forget a DJ saying after playing it, There's some metal for your morning. YES
"Happy pill for your ears" - love it :-) Jon Anderson's voice just takes us to that happy place !
90125 is one of only a handful of albums I've ever owned or heard that has no dead space. Good from start to finish. No skip-able songs. Truly a masterpiece and update to Yes' sound to match the music climate of the times.
Amazing, absolutely love Kel's smiles and laughs, that's the true magic and beauty of music.
Let her hear the acapella version of Leave It, even if you don't react. It's a pure joy for us choir nerds :)
Found it:
ruclips.net/video/E5RdFByIQH8/видео.html
the a capella version of "god only knows" too :)
I want someone to look at me like Kel looks at him...
I listened to that album so much I wore the cassette out. That and Rush were playing all the time on my awesome Panasonic Walkman with Dolby, auto reverse and 5 band equalizer. 😁 that whole album as well as the Big Generator album is great. This was a awesome concert! They sound the same on the record as live!!!!yay I am glad Kel gets to explore the genius of Yes!
It's an excellent album from a great British prog rock band the sound , production and playing on this is totally emenise guys 👦 😀 👌 👍.
Leave It is absolutely brilliant. Hooks, and production.
Agreed. I haven't heard this album in over a decade. It's still just as good to me now as it was then. I love Yes because they showed me so many things about how to produce music. The layers of elements that combine to create a production. Thanks for sharing..!
U two are totally adorable for one another. Cheers
I have been listening to Yes for damn near a half of century, and I still get excited listening to them to this day, Kel seems to enjoy them, and I love seeing that
Saw this concert twice in two weeks, great memories.
Jon Anderson sings like an angel, Steve Howe is a guitar player like no other, Chris Squire is a master of rhythm, and Bruford and white holds it all together
Dino Camella Trevor Rabin played all the guitars here. Steve Howe doesn’t play like this.
Talking over all Yes, I love Trevor Rabin and what he did for this band, Yes has been a true inspiration in my life for over 40 years
Howe was with Asia by this point and Rabin did a lot of the writing and all the guitar work.
You HAVE TO watch the video for this song (Leave it). It's just them standing there singing but they are up side down. When the music starts their heads and bodies do all sorts of weird shit.
Weirdest Music clip ever done.
With her classical training, I think Kel might like #EmersonLakeAndPalmer and their interpretation of "Fanfare For the Common Man".
So happy this 90125 was released in1983. I was a 17yr old then....and it "revived inspiration and positivity...." . ...especially for me...since I was committed to playing varsity basketball back then.... my first of 2 years. Great post thx Kel n Rich !!!

You 2 are an awesome couple! Awesome music choice!
Between Chris Squire's bass and the background vocals at the end(laaaa la la la laaaaa), It Can Happen does something to me that is absolutely awesome!

I was in the audience when they recorded the Album 90125 The solos In edmonton.
Sorry for your loss. Wish you both joy.

Yes is one of my faves, enjoyed watching this very much.
Please check out the Big Generator album. "Shoot High, Aim Low", and "Rhythm of Love" especially...you will flip, Kel!
So glad you returned to do more YES, from 90125. Kel's reactions are so genuine, reading her face. I appreciated her feedback for "changes". Honest. I love this entire album, but her insight made sense. Thanks!!

sorry to hear about your son Rich, stay strong, I just lost my mom 5 weeks ago so I feel your pain
So sorry Joe ..be blessed knowing GOD holds your mother near Him...and her soul will continue to bring you joy forever.
BTW, Big Generator is like a part 2 of this epic album! Both are my GO TO for testing my car stereo (that and Pink Floyd). Chris Squire’s bass playing is Just astounding! Thanks again for reacting!!!!

Anything that Jon Anderson, co founder of and voice of YES, does is full of hope, happiness and optimism!!! YES!!
Yes was arguably the most talented band ever and 47 years later, they still are
great job guys. so glad your wife is experiencing this stuff with us. so glad your doing the 90125 album. thank you. was in choir as well in high school, Navy, and sang for most of my life, love that your expanding your horizons.

Great music - and great to see your love for each other. Take care!
Can’t completely finish this album until you listen to “Hearts” some of Trevor Rabin’s finest guitar solo work and great lyrics your wife would like!
Yes! Yes. Leave It is beautiful, but Hold On, Our Song and City of Love are incredible.
This was so good to hear. Been such a long time since I've heard those two. I really hope you two get to take that rock and roll cruise!! YES is legendary.
Nice to learn something about you both. No wonder I love your RUclips show.
I went to this tour! From what I can remember, which isn't much as we were all completely messed up, it was a very good show!!!
I remember when this album came out..I was 19. The first single 96 Rock in Atlanta played was "Owner of a lonely heart " then " Leave it" ,Then "It can happen" . after those 3 songs I said I had to have this album. After I bought it I played it over and over and over. Great songs. Always loved Yes!
To get the FULL effect of Leave It, you have to see the official video. It is a feel good song.
Yeah. This version of Yes was also brilliant ❤
Had this album in highschool. Listened to it daily. Great songwriting!
Son virtuosos !! Yes la gran banda !!
2 GREAT SONGS!! Looking forward to it!
New sub...and you have discovered a particular musical moment of my childhood...Thanks!
Thanks for joining us K August! We really appreciate you connecting with us. Big hugs from South Florida. KnR
Very nice of you to share such painful and uplifting experiences - all the best!
reading from kel's face is a never ending "thank you, rich, for sharing this with me". so cute!

It's so much fun to see someone hear one of my all-time favorite albums for the first time! Thanks! (Although I don't get any yard work associations!)
You can bring your soul alive! - thanks.
I do love you both. This is the first video of yours I've seen. Keep on. Cheers
On a side note: I long for the moment when someone looks at me the way she looks at him.
I was in L.A. when this came out. And both A.O.R. stations were playing every cuts. There is still good proggy stuff on this lp to please a lot of the prog nerds.

Really enjoy your wife just the way she looks at you man! It’s very rare to find in life! What a blessing!
Rich couldn't control himself because it's such a great song
What a great prog rock album. Didn't read all the comments, but 90125 was actually the catalog number of the release. I was in university at the time, and working in a music store when the CD came in. It was very easy to log it in, the catalog number was the same as the title.

"Happy pill for your ears". I love that.
Awesome album. Treat Kel to HEARTS.
It may seem odd that I'm saying this, but after watching and enjoying so many of your videos you two are now my favorite friends online. Love to ya both!
