Yeah man, these guys would get wrecked on the Challenger tour. It's sad too, because the guys on the Challenger tour can't hardly make enough to feed their family. Take Devin Britton (NCAA champ) who couldn't make it on the tour and now is an Assistant Coach, Noah Rubin (ranked #1 in USA at Wake Forest) and he has a channel or something where he talks about depression / failing to make ends meet. & then Federer makes $93 million in 2019. It's not right. It's impossible for anyone else to catch up to that. I played #1 at a Division I school, but afterwards couldn't afford to spend $1,000 per weekend to go play in a tournament somewhere in the world for no prize money (maybe make $200). I wish I could have though, I would have literally been living my dreams from when I was a kid.
Steve K Whether success transfers to one level or not is very hard to guess. I know some juniors that i played who were beasts in the 16s and their level of play sharply declined when they got to the 18s and eventually into college. For some people it’s the exact opposite, the older they get the more their play style aids them.
Muscle memory and insane reading-the-opponent-skills. Where you and have hit balls thousands and thousands of times, they 've hit balls millions of times. Where you and I respond about 0.6-1s after the opponent hits the ball, they respond 0,3s after the hit or already positions themselves before the opponent even hits the ball since they read the body language. And because they have practiced and played so many matches, there's a lot going on at subconscious level. A lot of tennis patterns are fixed at pro-play. When to hit cross court etc.

Yellow guy is a player fr Israel and is #1 in college tennis 2019-20. He is very fit and naturally athletic. Can hit from any position on the court. The grey t-shirt guy is A. Rotsaert, American college player. Was #1 junior I think. I am very positive he started playing at a very young age as he looks very polished technically etc. But he could use a little more speed and agility.

quarantine will end, think through what you most need to develop, maybe it's a time to work on your volley and/or serve, even using a wall and practicing your volley in-air non-stop from 7-8 feet helps w strength and timing, you can also do calisthenics for strength/conditioning. I was only 5.0 but was almost always the strongest, most fit guy on court. At any rate, think of what you can do and go for it. I got hurt in 15 and am 1/2 paralyzed now. I miss it too- hugely.
Y'all still can't play in the US?? I'm over here in Europe and Tennis was one of the first sports that were allowed again, they allowed a month ago. Why would they still ban it? It's a non-contact sports.

As a coach, I can see clearly why the guy in grey is losing. For one, he doesn't seem to mix up his second serve against someone with a dangerous backhand down the line. Rookie mistake.

These guys play at a nice level with fast shots. They deserved AT LEAST a 2nd jugde on the opposite side of the court. So many wrong line calls. Some were clearly out, mostly on the opposite side to the umpire.
I know I'm not the only one that thought grey shirt's serve was weird. He tosses the balls and then after he's halfway done with the serve form, he looks up and hits the ball.

Rotsaert's serve is pretty crazy: he drags his right toe, then jump off his left foot, then does a kick serve motion with pronation... I like it, but it is a little crazy.
what actually is the advantage of platform? I've always served pin point and never really ever was told why someone might want to use platform. Is it just more simple? Less room for error since you aren't moving your right foot?
@@bonzwah1 supposedly, platform is better for movement into the court through the ball, while pinpoint is better for movement up through the ball. and yet some platform servers like federer drive higher off the ground than many pinpoint servers. platform is the old way and I think it's because the foot behind is a good start to push into the court to serve and volley

The pros easily have the capacity to play like this, but the biggest difference is that they are also able to hit the ball with a lot of kick and spin to throw off their opponents. Like I'd imagine seeing the yellow shirt go against Federer and try to power the forehand only to be destroyed easily by Federer's casual spin and speed. But in the US, it seems most college players fail to cultivate that topspin game with greater net clearance.

Okay I'm going to stop you here because this is a ridiculous take. Topspin is straight up fundamental in tennis no matter where you are. Theses guys are generating an absurd amount of topspin. Federer is just better at it. Watch any courtside videos of Federer, he hits just as hard, flat, and spinny, to varying degrees. He's just better and more consistent at it.

Yeah I think college players can be flashier but are less consistent than pros, therefore the highlights can be deceiving.

I’m pretty sure that’s a strategy to not let the other player know where your going to hit the ball, I could be wrong though

Okay I'm going to stop you here because this is a ridiculous take. Topspin is straight up fundamental in tennis no matter where you are. Theses guys are generating an absurd amount of topspin. Federer is just better at it. Watch any courtside videos of Federer, he hits just as hard, flat, and spinny, to varying degrees. He's just better and more consistent at it.
