This was over 25 years ago and when I still had a Genesis. A couple of buddies of mine and I went over to K-Mart and I found MLF for $20. I wasn't sure how it would be, but I thought "What the hell? Not a bad deal. I'll check it out." I bought it, and I remember when I put it in the Sega and we played it for the first time, I fell in love. The graphics were top notch for the day, the soundtrack was excellent, and some of the names of the teams and players were really clever. I also enjoyed some of the gross out humor in the game. It took me only a few tries to beat the game. But even after I beat the game on all the difficulty levels, I still would come back to this game every once in a while and played it.

This is the best sports video game ever in my opinion. Nasty audibles, kill ref, bribe ref, landmines on the field. It had it all. I loved playing as the Psycho Slashers on the annihilation setting. If I recall, their nasty audible was the one where the RB throws dynamite sticks at the opponent. That would wipe out several of their defensive starters immediately. Even the all star teams didn't have a chance after that.
You do know there's a spiritual successor coming later this year, right? I uploaded some gameplay vids of it on my channel (Mutant Football League). It's even from Michael Mendheim, the original creator of this game! :-)
