One of the most underrated games on Sega Genesis
69th like 😎
Fantastic video, I'm in the minority but I've always kinda liked Mutant League Football better than Mutant League Hockey
Glad you enjoyed this one. Yeah, the connection with the football version is real for me because of so many memories playing against my cousin as a kid. I didn't play the hockey one until much later so that one isn't as connected.
Mutant League Football was the more popular game. Mutant League Hockey has a more devoted cult following but in terms of overall popularity Football > Hockey
Nah MFH is way better than MLF
SNES Drunk you are awesome. Both of yall are!!!
I suck at sports games. Never could wrap my head around the interface or control setup.
But Mutant League were 2 games I always wanted to play.
I loved the cartoon as a kid.
Do you remember what channel or day the cartoon aired on? I have no memory of the show myself as a kid.
@@FridayNightArcade It was on Fox, usually after school, and/or on Saturdays (depending on the market). Personally, I remember it being on Saturday mornings; years later, reruns were ran on an independent locally-owned station in my city.
Interesting - thank you so much for sharing. This sort of thing is fascinating to me and I love reading historical stuff about local broadcast affiliates. I have a problem lol.
@@FridayNightArcade About a decade ago, my job at the time had me going all around the midwest. My favorite part of that was seeing how different all of the affiliates were, and all of the locally-owned channels (which, sadly, seems to be a thing of the past, for the most part). Of course, their ad bumpers would be the same template, but they were always different; especially when it came to special local programming or movie nights.
Whoa, that's awesome! That's super cool. There's a news anchor guy in our area that maintains a sort of virtual archive of local affiliate info and I'm a big enough nerd to have read most of it. www.dougquick.com/
LOVED this game we use to have tournaments for this game miss the simple games and how fun they were
One of my favorite gems of all time. They released a modern version recently & it's a lotta fun too.
That reference to the Dallas Cowboys was Hilarious! I used to watch the Mutant League cartoon every Sunday morning!
I don't even like football games but I played this all the time and died laughing.
I still have my game to this day, and I still play it
Awesome.
I loved EVERYTHING about this game when I got it including the box art. I was infatuated with this game that and always enjoyed my time with it.
What a strange game. I never got into Sega, so your history on the game and the people around it is really fascinating. Great job!
Hey thanks -- Glad you enjoyed this one. Yeah, I didn't technically have a Sega either growing up, my cousin did so I got to mess with that a little, but using this channel as an excuse to play some good ones I missed along the way.
You need to get into secs great stuff there
Anybody remember Base Wars for NES? I wasn’t into sports games but you got to fight other robots for bases so... batter up!
Mutant Football League is definitely a worthy successor.
I didn't get a chance to try it out -- so it's good? I just thought it was cool they got Tim Kitzrow (NBA Jam "yes!" guy) to do the announcing.
@@FridayNightArcade It's a hell of a lot of fun. Dynasty Mode adds a lot to the game.
It Played Like The Original But More Satire Included
It Played Like The Original But More Satire Included
Friday Night Arcade Fun fact, (unless you already knew, then I guess you’re going to know again), he was also the voice for the NFL Blitz games. so… in a way, I guess it’s kind of fitting they had him voice the announcer in the MFL game.
25 years later, Mutant Football League gets new life, and BOOM! We got a helluva lot of blood, guts, gore, mutants, and so many teams parodying almost every NFL team!
And what's even better is that 3-4 years after release it's STILL getting new teams/stadiums/features, even despite being a relatively unknown "niche" sports title.
Man this was an awesome video. I remember the game. Playing with my cousins on the weekends. Thanks for bringing this back
Hey thanks! Glad you enjoyed this one.
This was one of those over-the-top sports games, a la NBA Jam/NFL Blitz. Mutant League Hockey had those ridiculous animations on the coaches faces along with the hilarious gibberish that was their voices, oddly stood out to me. Thanks Aaron. 🤘
**rom-rom-rom-rom rockin' ref** ... that's what I always thought he was saying anyway.
😂
This was a favorite of me and my brothers growing up. I got Mutant Football League on ps4 and it's the game we been waiting for. It's definitely the spiritual successor to MLF.
I was never much into football whether it be real life or virtual, but I would have loved this game as a kid. I may still have to check it. Fantastic video as usual!
This was probably the game for you then. It helps to be a little football literate but it's silly enough to be a fun casual experience too. Best if played with friends. Thanks for watching mate!
"Football and monsters, that’s a game i always wanted to play. Only one problem, it didn’t exist.”
Blood Bowl: And I took that personally.
Arguably the best football game ever made
So much fun to play - and still has replay value today, moreso than the simulations which are totally dated roster-wise.
My brother and I played Cyberball before this, I think it was a Nintendo game. Great review, btw, such memories.
I loved this game when I was a kid. I would play against my uncle, and I didn't even care if I was losing because it was so amusing to me.
Mutant League Hockey was even better. One of the only sports games I play.
Couldn't imagine a cartoon nowdays with a decapitated head. Awh what a time to be alive
"This could be the one time the ad is better than the video" (skips ad immediately) Thanks for the video Aaron! Ahhhh memories....loved this game. What a jewel in a sea of crappy Genesis games (obviously not all of them) Keep up the excellent work good sir!
Not a Genesis fan eh lol?
Just the opposite, I had the Genesis and not the SNES but you have to admit, Genesis did not have a lot of great games.
There certainly aren't that many that I have any real emotional connection with to be sure.....
I remember this game with such pleasure.
Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. Dead bodies to the kitchen!
Such fond memories of playing Mutant League Football back in my college days.
Finally!! Someone praises this underrated classic! I say underrated cuz no one I know ever talks about it!!
It shall be a part of some of my countdowns, as well as my crossover fic/podfic of VR Troopers! 😊
A true gem, loved it back in the day.
I loved Mutant league football for Sega Genesis. When I found out Michael was remaking another one for PS4 I fell off my chair. I didn't expect the new game to be so good but hands down my favorite game for PS4.
My favorite sports game of all time. Really wish they'd make a updated version. Yet if I could find it I'd just play the original.
Mutant football league was made by the same dude who made mutant league football. Try it out.
Mutant League Football and Mutant League Hockey are two Genesis classics that should be a part of any respectable collection...it's a damn shame that we never got Mutant League Basketball.
One of the best football games I've ever played.
This game was great ! Spew puke was my favorite defensive guy ever. Nothing better then exploding the Qb into a million pieces…
older video, but jus found you recently and have been going through your stuff. MLF is my favorite sports game of all time.
Thanks for checking out the show.
@@FridayNightArcade you keeping making them, and i'll keep watching them. really enjoying your channel.
Oooh...I’m writing this comment from my car right now. Does that constitute texting and driving? This is a contender for best review of the year. Loved this one and I love your channel. But you knew that. Go Pats!!
Ha! You better have at least pulled over first! 😆
penalty called for booger flicking, that weekend rental was worth it
Loved this game as a kid. Love it as an adult.
Mutant League and Pig Skin Foot Brawl are my favorite sports games of the 16 bit generation.
Yes! You know you're stuff
I've got mutant league football but never got to play pigskin footbrawl
Not counting wrestling games, this and NFL Blitz were the only sports games I actively enjoyed. I had no idea that this was the brain child of a graphic designer who pretty much fell into game design.
I also had no idea that a modern version came out! Time to download the demo off Steam.
The modern version has Tim Kitzrow as the lead announcer voice (the "NBA Jam voice guy")!
This already looks fun. Tonight is gonna be awesome.
This game was so good. I'm not even from the US and don't know anything about American Football.
One of my most favorite games growing up.
I kind of had this idea for a live sports entertainment show based off Mutant League, where it would basically be Pro Wrestling if you replace the wrestling with Football, Basketball, Soccer, & Hockey, and the players were guys in mutant costumes, but their like thin mutant costumes so they'd be realistic but still comfortable for athletes to play in, it'd have tons of violence and fake gore [with tons slams, tackles, and professional wrestling-esc moves done to each other (as well as some green fake blood for the gore) to give it the special edge Mutant League is known for], it'll have all kinds of storylines and plots, as well as different types of competitions and one-off games to spice it up, including:
>the Eliminator Challenge: where (like in the "Mutant League the movie" cartoon) it'll have 2 teams (after each winning a 3 way round robin-esc preliminaries, where each of the 3 teams plays each other in turn in quick one round 10 minute games of a random sport, where 3 points for every win, 1 point for every tie for both teams in that match, and no points for every loss) play in a series of sports and play best 3 out of 5 (with each game being on a different episode) for a chance to earn the title as Team Eliminator until another Eliminator Challenge is held and they have to defend their title on a single match against the winner of that eliminator challenge
>the Battle Belt: where one random team starts out with the belt and if that team can win 5 straight games against any team who wants to fight for it, they get to keep it (and when the belt is won, another belt will be up for grabs when it's selected to another random team and it keeps going on and on just like that) and if that team loses or refuses to accept a team's game for it then they have to give up the belt to that team and that team will have to win 5 more games to keep it and it'll going on and on just like that
>the Double-Team Trouble-Team Tournament: where it's a basic 8 team tournament, only each team is consisted of the players two teams from the regular games (selected in random), so you basically have 2 teams who may or may not get along playing on the same teams, it can open up all kinds of storylines for the show
>the Grudge Matches: where teams or players who have grudges against each other basically fight it out in a quick game (it's basically based on storylines)
>& the All-Star Tournament: where all the teams play in a special league tournament to determine who will win the Mutant Cup
and every episode features 5 or 7 quick games, usually a mix of the various competitions and one-off games which will be running throughout the series, with some episodes having major games two halves to it with two quick games playing between halve
do you think that would be good?
i love this game as well as mutant league hockey...both were fun to play
I have to admit, coming into this as a DOS gamer (and then tabletop wargamer), Mutant League Football felt like the Blood Bowl game I wanted but didn't get on DOS.
One of fav games of all time
put the setting to hardest level and then play as the sixty whiners...LOL...brutal.
I used to love this game.
The finest game ever made ❤
I hope you do mutant league hockey next.
It's on the list :D
I used to love this game
This game and Pigskin were huge favs of mine
WOW i had no clue their was a cartoon and I worshiped the 2 games as a kid. I am going to have to find it.
I loved this game
Blood Bowl was badass
This game didn't seem to gain much traction here in the UK, I only owned it because my mum bought it for me thinking it was Soccer. I adored the game though as it reminded me of a table top game I had been playing called Blood Bowl and I still often dust mutant league off when I get my mega drive out to enjoy some play time
Ok I thought Pigskin Footbrawl needed a remake,, THIS needs a remake!! Just imagine this game with modern graphics and gameplay?
Man I miss this. I still have Football and Hockey but my Genesis went bad a long time back, thought about getting a retro console if they are cheap enough just to play those.
Got the new one and I love it but I'd still love to see the old ones get re-released if EA ever got off their butts. I'd happily buy them plus there is a lot of those 16 bit era games they did I'd love to see get released on modern consoles.
My brother had this and we played it a lot, I always wondered why they didn't make a sequel on the Genesis
Reminds me of base wars.
A robot baseball game on the Nintendo.
Bones Jackson really is the best.
I wish other sports games had this sort of theme, maybe I'd actually be interested in sport then lol
Loved the cartoon
0:27 Nope. It's more like "Speedball, but with American football and monsters" - Because thats what it was for me, some European kid who couldn't find Speedball on his town's game store and got an indian-bootleg of this instead. Not a bad game at all!
Loved MLF as a kid, was soo much fun, as well as MLH. Not sure if I ever won by score, only forfeit of the other team due to me killing all of them.
I uh...made an unfortunate misread of this comment to say "Loved MILF as a kid" ... oy... haven't had my caffeine today. Sorry, sorry. I mean, winning by forfeit is still **winning.**
Yo this brought back memories and good ones especially that cartoon series I remember that and the character Bones that was a dope way going back to memory lane but as an adult did anyone else catch the fact that dude said after his head was lost from his body his “head game” been good all day is it just me or am I buggin
This is wild!!!
Gamesack got me here
O shit i remember the cartoon man that was back in the days lol
Bones Justice!! Great game
What about pig skin foot brawl on sega? That was a awesome violent football game also
Am I the only one who noticed that QB for the mutant league football cartoon looked like Tommy Wiseau?
You are not.
Reminds me of Blood Bowl
This game definitely needs a remake.
Ian Kempster it has a remake/update that’s available on pc, Xbox one, and ps4.
TJ Sanchez I come from 10 months in the future. There’s also a version on Nintendo switch now if you ever want it portably.
I know right. R people hyped for the Superbowl or the commercials 🤔
Kill the ref with killer farts. This is totally my game!
they need a new mutant league football game
oh there is one... wtf cool
I liked it
Awesome bro
Thank you!
Damn EA and their bullshit of not wanting to bring back the Mutant League Franchise
Bribe Ref...aka... Tom Brady.
lol can't argue with that.

Future Gohan I wish they could’ve came up with a better name for the Minnesota Vikings. We’re called the purple mutant eaters. I mean it’s funny, but… Why? They could have come up with a more clever name than that. (One example of a clever name is Malice Hellboys for Dallas Cowboys).
Just run left shuttle, over and over, mand over
Any mutan league
This was kool i got the new version of this on the ps4 its fun lol 😈😈😈😈😈😈🤘🤘🤘🤘
awesome
The Japanese chic in the picture with Joe Robbins was hot.
try the games workshop board game "blood bowl"...
He didn't say dont watch FNA and drive !
Wonder why they didn't try to make a Mutant League Soccer or a Mutant League Basket. I guess that EA didn't want to compete with itself.
We got a Mutant League Hockey which some argue was even better. Mutant League Basketball was in development but got nixed before it was finished unfortunately.
Wow
This is the only other football game I enjoy besides tecmo super bowl
Why would they program an entirely new game when they already have the Madden games to use as a base? That seems like a waste of resources.
I'm not sure why they decided to redo the engine.
I've always wanted to get into this game but I can't get my head around the rules. One day I'll give it a serious go.
Well....we used to be excited for commercials. Now they're just propaganda filled trash. But man is Mutant League Football and Mutant League Hockey are great!
Blood bowl ripoff
