  • I talk with Jason Evert about how we as humans are not defined by our sexuality, and how Jason has had to change his talk over the years so the kids he speaks to can know that Chastity is a universal message for everyone, even for those with same sex attraction.

We are more than our gender and more than our sexuality. It would be fantastic if more people knew that.

Yes, we are MORE than our SEXUALITY!!!! I do have friends who experience same sex attraction & I love & respect them. It just hurts me when they wear that as their identity.

Such good content, and so relevant for the discussions going on in the public sphere. Indeed, sexual attractions do not and should not define us. Those who learn to control such desires and use them for life-giving ends find true joy and fulfillment. Thanks for a great video!

    Great interview Matt!
Just a suggestion. You might want to use shock mounts on your microphones. Whenever a person's hands hit the table, it produces a distracting thud that the mic picks up.

Your attractions do inform your identity. Otherwise, we demean the body and become gnostic.

Yes, but our attractions do not solely constitute our identity.

William Chami But that is a straw man. No one argues that sexual attraction is someone’s sole defining trait.

Matt, your content is so GOOD.
Request: Don't pull a Marco Rubio and think that good content/personality will reach everyone!!! Remember that Donald Trump won the race by having fantastic press coverage despite being a harebrained public speaker and having rhetoric unrelatable to many.
You are the next big thing!!!! Saludos from GA

Gender IS a part of who we are for all eternity. Our BODIES will be resurrected. This discussion is edging alarmingly towards gnosticism. Missing also is discussion of the differing roles of reason, will and emotion. This seems well-intentioned, but missing foundational concepts.

Moving towards Gnosticism? What do you mean?
Is there a resource you could point me towards so I can learn more about your point?
      Thanks

It's a small part an interview that went through several complex topics in less than 2 hrs.

Yes, gender is part of our identity and I don't think Jason downplayed that fact. His focus was on sexual attractions and explaining how these do not form our identity. In fact, learning to control sexual attractions can help one become a more fulfilled and more mature man or woman.

Actually the title kind of contradicts what is said in the video. Jason clearly explains that there are only 3 kinds of persons, divine Persons, angelic persons and human persons. And if you’re a human person, you’re either male or female, created in the image and likeness of God. Gender matters, so our identity is either a son or daughter of God. I think Matt may have meant ‘gender’ in the secular sense, as in our feelings about what gender we ‘should’ be. So in this sense we are not defined by our ‘gender’ because we are not defined by our experiences and feelings, and certainly not those that don’t align with reality.

11:24 you ended by saying, "the church is the only institution telling same sex people to love". So i assume the church says so because God says so, which means Gods word says so. So could you please guide me to find which scripture talks about same sex people to love?

@@arkansas99 thanks for replying. I read the book and i did not find any verse gender specific describing same sex. The identity of the person expressing is his feelings of love is unknown. 🙁

I sure am going to take the advice of someone who gets to have fulfilling sex within the religion..... He really thinks that a lifetime a celibacy is not gay shame?! When you are told that acting out on a core aspect of yourself, in any context, shape or form, married or not is sinful, people are going to feel shame. There is no way around that. When you deny someone's human dignity and societal agency it is oppression.

Single life”, if meant as “non-married life”, is not a vocation.
It is a “fasting”. A form of fasting is not a vocation.
A vocation is a call TO something, not a call to abstain from something.
Again, you miss the point Jason made, this is being put as "gay shame" or "gay embrace".
Which is something that as a closeted gay kid before hurted me.Then i realized that the hypersexualization of many things exists only to exploit and not help.
Through mortification and completle abstinence of the material,i realized that i never truly was "gay" or "straight" i was in fact God's creation and not a slave of terminology.
      And if i i stopped.What's their excuse?

The bottom line. Is God loves everyone its the "Homosexual Acts" that are in the Scriptures. Like Adultery or the worlds oldest profession (Prostitution). That are not Accepted by any Religion or any God. You must Repent & live a chase life. Why don't they tell them the truth!

Riddle me this, If you're more than a gender why is it such a big deal when people come out as transgender in the first place? Nothing has changed about the person so why can't you just use the pronouns they tell you to use? Why can't you called him him.\, she she, or they they? Where in the bible is it even said not be trans?
