This was a border crossing point for locals. The border guard took pictures to send them to the next international border crossing point to provide an exeption to you. Unfortuanally he didn‘t get any reply so he had to send you back.
Hængtst that makes so much more sense. And because of the language barrier he didn’t know how to explain what he was doing! Just a big misunderstanding. Lol
Every time I watch your Vlogs, I find myself searching Google to look up something you talk about. Most of the time it is the history of whatever place you are in. I couldn't remember anything about the Bosnian War and your video prompted me to take a little stroll through history. Thank you for your Vlogs and constant inspiration.
*I know this video is old....but I'm a homeschooling mama here who has been using your travel vlogs to help show my 9 and 10 year old kiddos around the world! Thank you for these!*
Bosnia Croatia border is the main route of european guns smugling bussines. Majority of illegal weapons in EU come from this balkan route, so border guards are equally sketchy at these small border crossings.
I Love you guys...but I will seriously miss Charlie when He's gone. I haven't heard the phrase 1/2 past a freckle and 1/4 til a mole since I was a kid. I definitely have a Crush on Charlie !
The border crossing was for the locals. He took the photos and wanted to send them to his supervisor to try and get an exception for you guys so you don't have to turn back.
When I saw the road, one lane road where two cars barely pass by each other it clicked to my mind the crossing border point is for locals only with residential ID card. There’s the same crossing border point between Herzegovina and Montenegro.
Hahah Bosnian-Croatian border crossings are so unpredictable. Once I went through one and the border patrol guy was just sitting outside playing the guitar. When I drove up, he asked me if I wanted a passport stamp or not, and then waved me through. I was going into Bosnia though.
it's been almost a year guys I will definitely miss charlie wish he had a RUclips channel❤ I am excited for what is next and hope u guys keep vlogging.
We just arrived in Dubrovnik today and WOW what a stunning lil city. Im looking forward to seeing what you guys were up to here. I hope you walked the wall although I know Nate does not like to pay for things like that. Its expensive 120 kuna ($18). My hopes were up that we could walk it but when seeing the price we decided the best thing was to opt out and fly the drone instead. -Ash
Flying drones over populated areas actually became illegal if done withouth a special permission, fine is almost 4 thousand dollars if you get caught Here's the link, you can run it through google translate www.index.hr/vijesti/clanak/ne-prijavite-li-snimanje-dronom-prijeti-vam-kazna-od-25000-kuna/916074.aspx
Good luck on your merch sales! They look great! Are you guys planning on coming to INDONESIA? We are from Northern California but are living in Indonesia. Would be great to get together if this is a planned stop of yours!

I see two possibilities - either it was some kinda passport-copy scan for black market - OR, it was because it was sorta suspicious you guys turning up at that border - drug-smugglers etc, going through his mind and took a pic just in case - gotta remember, they are security paranoid, is their job, specially young folks......:-)....and your Aussie friend does look sorta.....suspicious, in a cocky (and therefore annoying for bureaucracy) way.......just saying.....
Uhhh yeah that was incredibly intimidating...when I heard that door slam and you said something about it slamming I was super nervous for Charlie and for you 2...WOW...but cool drive and location in the end :) BIG HUGS FROM IDAHO! :)
I don't think you could do much with a photo of someone's passport... He probably took photos so he could let you pass on that crossing, because he couldnt scan them there...
I don't think I would ever get out of my vehicle at a border crossing but I just can't believe that guy took pictures of their passports with his phone?! That is definitely illegal everywhere.
Croatia is one of the safest countries in the world, there was nothing to be worried about. Keep in mind that recording police is forbidden in Croatia and they are gestappo, but are lawful
@@TheKres7787 oh no I’m not saying that, they just had guns and where working out of a tiny hut in the middle of nowhere so it felt a bit sketchy, they also took our passports for like 20 mins for each crossing
@@sophxx7284 yeah I suppose we got some of those peasent hut crossings with Bosnia x) but don't worry you were quite safe with em. If they had a bad day or are random idiots they could delay you, but they wouldn't dare do anything too sketchy

The roads are pretty bad in B i H but there are soo many beautiful parts all across the country. The scenery is beautiful - the greenery, the lakes, rivers ,mountains and the landscapes- yes see many bullets in buildings all across the country which is reminder of the terrible war there.
It is not allowed to record police officers in croatia, that certainly includes borders. They are quite serious about. Furthermore they are of gestapo discipline, and you being chill and disrespectful will blow their minds

Bribe for what? You probably don't even know the meaning of the word. He had no right to take passports from the border officer, he was lucky he wasn't arrested. Border guard had every right to arrest him for doing what he did. Dumb people think they're God given just because they come from Australia or USA and they don't even bother themselves to get accustomed to EU laws
English is my first language so I am pretty good at it! I agree that the crazy Aussie's actions were a bit dangerous/reckless. At the same time the guard was probably thinking about how he could get some money from this group of young foreigners. He could have refused to return the passports without payment. He could have asked for money to allow them to cross the border at that location. So, what EU law allows border guards to intimidate travelers?
MrSmeker, you are absolutely right. Try going to the USA/AUS as a foreigner and grabbing your passport from a US border patrol guy when he's not finished yet. I bet it wouldn't end well.
@@staceyp.9964 So? Why does it matter if he has a gun or not? They can argue as much as they want if they are right. It's not like he is going to shoot some tourists for arguing. I know it happens in the US for things less than arguing, and thereby the US part.
vivalabraga ok, you have an issue with my statement, you seem focused on the word gun, I never implied they would be shot. I used the term ‘official with a gun’ to denote a person in authority who has to be issued a gun to do their job, and thus usually has a low tolerance level of crap from people. If you think arguing with a customs officer/border guard is a good idea, I dare you to try it. Yeah you probably aren’t going to get shot, however if a custom’s officer is questioning you above what is normal for the situation, they are probably suspicious of you for some reason. Arguing is just going to fuel their suspicions and that can result in many things, a full search of your luggage which can take hours, or maybe being detained or arrested, or there is always the ‘fun’ full body cavity search as an option too. I stand by my advice do not argue with an official especially a customs official as in this case, you will not make your situation better, it does not matter if you are ‘right’, the officer is just doing their job. Next time you are going into a country or even returning to your own country, go ahead argue with the officer, let me know how that turns out for you, LOL.
I really can't understand what you want to prove here. Since when do a person in authority NEED to have a gun? The majority atleast here in Europe don't. And what you mean by low tolerance? They are going through education and practice to handle these situations and shouldn't have these problems. Oh I can promise I have argued and can't be more prouder that I stood up for my rights. In that video that police called the other customs if they could pass there and no harm at all was intended. I've argued with officers from all parts of Europe. In this area where they are I paid the Bosnian customs $30 to let me pass as I forgot my car insurance. Did he let me in? Oh hell yeah, without a blink. You just have to vibe as them, hard to understand probably. Speeding ticket? Buy him a beer or coffee. And what you mean taking hours with luggage? They stopped me in Croatia and said to open. I opened. He checked. And then tried to leave. I called whistled at him back and said to put all the things he took out and fix it as it was before. He doubted, I called his manager, he bent down and I watched him work for 10 minutes. Even in Greece where he stopped me and fined me $1000 for not wearing helmet on a bike. But "you get 50% if you pay in 48 hours" . Lol, ripped it apart in front of him and drove away. Don't ever let these people fuck with you if you know you are right.
Wow, that guard was a dick. I've crossed the Bosnian-Croatian border several times with no problems (but my wife is Bosnian so speaks the language) and in general I find the Bosnians nice and the Croatians a bit officious.
