He explains like a true master, a professor. So experienced in his art.

That's because he is. There are very few singers who have the musical intelligence and individuality in this repertoire that Charles Daniels has consistently displayed over his entire career. While his voice isn't necessarily conventionally pleasant, his integrity and honesty as a performer is always amazing, and he is a stunning Evangelist. And in his younger days, a fantastic haute-contre as well, brilliant at the low alto/high tenor English Restoration and French stuff.

Charles Daniels, your voice and expertise is simply divine. And St Matthew's Passion is one of the great divine works by Bach, it entrances me.

The carefully thought out comments of such an excellent singer helps us to hear passages such as this with new ears. Bravo!

This series of performance videos, done by the Netherlands Bach Society have been extraordinary. The recent posting of the St. Matthew Passion, is no exception. The orchestral players, and singers are all magnificent. Charles Daniels' vocal technique and his own personal passion for this incredible music are wonderful. I thank you. And, as horribly pretentious as this may be, I believe Maestro Bach would thank you, too...humbly, of course.

Such a subtle touch of characterisation. Bach never wrote an opera, yet he was a master dramatist.

A belated commentary but I find these moments with masters absolutely fascinating.
