I Continue To Have Side Skirt Issues On My Camaro SS | ZL1 Style Side Skirts

  • Welcome back to the channel! A few weeks ago, I made a video (linked below) where I installed EOS ZL1 Style Side Skirts. Don’t get me wrong, I love the look of them, but my driver side side skirt has given me nothing but issues. I have reinstalled it 2 more additional times since the initial install. I detail how I installed it differently each time with different techniques and products. Beginning to think it is just badly warped. Be sure to leave comments discussing your experience with this product! Like always, there is plenty more content to come! As @ericpalmer 3664 said, the ACS composite are the way to go. I put mine on two years ago and they fit perfectly. They match the contours of the car perfectly. I bought the gloss black and the paint is also perfect, they are a little more expensive but I wouldn’t use any other brand.

    You need to use a urethane adhesive. I installed OEM satin black ones and the GM installation instructions specified urethane adhesive, haven’t had any issues.

    Had the same problem with my side skirts. What fixed my issue was 3M adhesion promoter I got off Amazon. What it seems to do causes a chemical reaction with the glue on the tape to make it bond with whatever surface you're attaching it too. Just be careful with reattaching you only have one shot to get it right, because it's very hard to remove the part.

    • @JCSCUSTOMS

      I ended up using the same promoter and got it to stick!

  • @Bankingverdicts
    @Bankingverdicts Год назад +3

    Yeah I asked you in the original video how to make them hold. You definitely aren’t the only one dealing with this. I quit using tape. Drilled through the bottom and placed a couple washers (underneath obviously) between until it pushed the top part flush with the car.

    • @stevehoughton9605
      @stevehoughton9605 11 месяцев назад

      Yep, you have to make up for the warped sections. Cannot force a plastic deformation and have a preload or springback get back to you. I plan on installing a set and will certainly wait a few hours for the tape to cure and then screw it with schims where needed.

    I talked to ACS composite and they get tons of calls that people had bad experience with the skirts from EOS. I ordered the ACS composite skirts and I can tell you it's the solution. It uses rivets and no 3M tape at all. Those skirts don't go anywhere. The quality you get from ACS is amazing. It's almost OEM and they actually have experience working with GM.

    Need adhesion promoter on the molding before the tape. 3m. You won’t be able to take the tape off the molding.
    So take molding off. Take all glue off. Clean car and mold. Promote wipe molding. Put tape on molding. Press hard. And put on car when it’s warm. Not cold.

    I didn't have a problem installing mine from American muscle pretty sure those are from eos cause I bought from American muscle but my Front lip spoiler was branded extreme online store on the part . I used mushroom rivets instead of the screws 3m tape and 3m adhesion promoter applied adhesion the the side skirts and front lip and applied it to the car itself. You need to use 3M 4298UV Adhesion Promoter - Tape Primer, and 3M VHB Tape 5925 Permanent Bonding Tape. I talked direct to 3M and they said the 03614 would not work because it has two adhesives and the cover side of the tape is made for the paint side.

    Did you use that quick detail spray to clean the surface and then use the alcohol? I dont believe the alcohol would strip that wax off. Maybe use a cleaner to strip the wax off and use some adhesive prep? Might work? A easier way to take that 3m tape off is to use a eraser wheel attached to a cordless drill. Dont go to fast when using it. Your fingers will be grateful. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Maybe try that before dropping more 💰💰💰 on different side skirts.... whatever you do, best of luck 🤞🏼
