A plus 1 for your list, Construction. With base building announced in CitCon 2023 a ground vehicle was shown that looks a little longer than the Ballista. I can see the Ironclad used as a transport for this vehicle as well as construction support, even more so to the assault version with the repair bay
I had a CCU chain for a C2, but could not pass up further upgrading to the unexpected Iron Chad Fatterpillar! It's a much larger craft, but the lack of tractor beams on the C2 made the Ironclad the more compelling choice. Thanks as always for your content and perspectives @Vici Deum! * gives a crisp salute * 🫡
Congrats on the upgrade! Those tractor beams and the extra SCU are going to be such great advantages! While the C2 will be a agile in atmospheres, you’ll be able to load quickly and trade at such higher volumes!
I ended up picking up both versions. I currently don't have a dedicated cargo hauler, and I wasn't too interested in the hull series, then this beast was announced, and it just spoke to me lol. Figured it would be good to have at least one ship with larger cargo capabilities in the back pocket.
Congrats on your pickups! The Ironclad is such a sick ship and an awesome DefenseCon announcement. I love enclosed cargo holds and it just feels like a perfect offering in an untapped cargo class; more than a C2 and Cat but less than a Hull C. An absolute beast!
Was looking forward to your video on the Ironclad and you did not disappoint! I have ccu’s to both but the base is currently the most appealing. It’s everything I liked about the cat but even more capable. I could see running this around with a group of friends and getting into just about anything you could want to do in game. Appreciate the quality videos man.
Thank you so much for the kind words, I’m glad you enjoyed this video! The Ironclad is a freaking awesome ship, a veritable sandbox for anything your heart desires!
Amazing review of my new favorite ship. I bought 4 CCUs (two to each of them) to be sure I'll have it. I mangled my CCU chain to the Polaris because this ship is so... me! I like the Assault version... I do hope it will have the brigs in front.
I picked up a CCU from the M2 to the Assault. What really did it for me was the Q&A confirming that the roof can open on the Assault and the repair bay facility will make this lady unique.
Congrats on your pickup, the Ironclad Assault is an absolute beast! A fully enclosed carrier with a repair facility makes this ship uniquely awesome and brings a ton of utility; both legal and less than haha!
I’m with you Vici, before I watched this my thoughts were “piracy and cargo hauling” for the top uses for the Ironclad, and sure enough so you also concluded. It has pocket carrier potential for sure, but a lot of questions remain to be answered before we’ll know for sure what’s what.
I’m glad you agree! It’s an awesome ship with an iconic look and so much potential. But it’s a standout top tier piracy ship for sure! And I’m really curious about how it works as a carrier as well; we’ll have to see how it all shapes up!
Once we have Pyro and several other systems, then you will need the large/Cap ships to traverse these large systems. Stanton is one of the smallest systems in the game and designed small for testing. With Pyro on it's way and more systems coming, a ship like the Ironclad is almost a must have for a Firefly/Serenity nomadic style of play. Having a very flexible jack of most trades, depending on what you put inside the 1500 SCU hold is great. Whether it be a fighter for bounties, a ROC/Prospector/vulture, a C8R/Nursa or any combination. Myself, I want to do the long haul cargo runs and while doing that, explore opportunities to discover derelicts, rescue others, scan for resources etc. The Ironclad has extreme long range, 4 large shields and armored. I really hope CIG goes the rout of individual bunk rooms like the Corsair. The Ironclad could also be a mobile central hub for a land base, that can be moved from one resource rich environment to another. I feel that I will be able to pick up almost any mission in my journeys through the Deep dark of the verse.
The Ironclad looks like a fantastic ship to live aboard, while you experience all the joys and dangers of the verse! It’s got so much room for activities, the possibilities are literally endless! And I can’t wait till we can reliably live in and operate capitals. It’s going to be freaking epic!
I'm hoping when server meshing comes in, to join large scale pvp battles, I'd use my Ironclad Assault as a dropship for a large battalion, while having my capital ships for air support.
Congrats on your pickup! The Ironclad will make an epic drop-ship, especially in a large battle. I can’t wait till we have these kinds of epic fights in game!
I almost fell for for this ship but I already have so many other ships. I will continuum to focus on being the provider of industrial and resource gathering ships. The Iron Clad is that ship I rather just help crew as a gunner or ships engineer.
Second best looking Drake ship behind the Kraken. Only few nice looking Drake ships IMO. Still don't like Drake or Origin, but kudos on this one. Someone needs to do a 'Hoist The Colors' vid while they liberate someone of their loot when this hits the Verse.
The best use for the Drake Ironclad right now is to print it out and hang it up a wall. Because it is just a good looking jpeg and won't be anything else for years to come.
i wanted the assault for the fabricator i wanted the base for its... i forgot at this moment but neither of them could come close to replacing my liberator so i held all 3 geeze im dumping to much money in game! could buy an old used sports car with this money
This makes no sense we know literally nothing about this ship other than some pr speak lol. Best uses currently 5. Wallpaper 4. screen saver 3. thumbnail pic 2. CCU upgrade sitting in hangar 1. Getting a caterpillar as a loaner ship. Anything else is just guess work at this point.
The marketing material is an excellent guide on its uses! While decade old concepts have been reworked, most still hold true to their intended function on release!
Well I currently have a liberator I'm keeping it unless cig just royally screws liberator owners over and makes this first . Either way I believe I'll have both when they both hit the game I'm just getting tired of buying a hope and a dream from cig I'm currently waiting on liberator crucible Vulcan Zeus Mr Zeus cl Polaris and galaxy also waiting on my g12 for 600i and 600i rework . I'm hoping I get to see half of these before I leave this world and I'm only 39
Tone down that ADHD, your behaving like a wanton child, nobody is screwing anybody over, if you choose to dream and hope for something, then you have nothing much to start with. CIG don't make promises, you need to go back and read the terms of agreement. Ironclad in 2/3 yrs, go to church, your prayers might get answered sooner.
While every new concept draws attention, the Ironclad has really cool features that I think will keep players from abandoning it for the next flavor of the week!
Let’s be honest this ship was just a cash grab. They weren’t hitting their quota with ship sales so they pretty much gave us a JPEG of an ironclad to look at and said here buy something that’s not gonna come out for sale for another 5 years
But I don’t think it was a quick decision, they definitely had this in the back pocket! Although I’m glad they announced the Ironclad, it’s still a sick ship!
@@vital-wyn1310 While I do think CIG will get it right (disagree with this thread starter...) I do see things like making the dimensions of the top-loading cargo bay 1 meter too short to land a Vulture in there, for example. This is a Drake ship. The Vulture is a Drake ship. Drake is form follows function. Drake would make certain this can land a Vulture and take, maybe, 4 32SCU Containers inside to fly back to a City. Think transporting the operation from Stanton to Pyro (and back) to take advantage of an emergent opportunity to earn some credits. FORCING collaborative gameplay by making the cargo bay half a meter too short is an example of messing this up.
By the way I DID buy this Ironclad. And I will be pissed six ways to Sunday if CIG f this up. aaaand this ship needs a Drake Corsair elevator from "Exit ship" all the way up to "Top of the roof". Get that part right please.
@@iantsears you guys are missing the thing that might make this thing great. The cargo thing is great but there's supposedly going to be repair and refuel and a brig to store bountys. They have 1/2 done most other mechanics and ships for the most part I wouldn't expect much difference on the iornclad sorry you spent money on a ship that will come out in 1 to 6 years and has to be crewed buy probably 3 to 5 people to really accomplish anything
You deserve 100k subs.
Such a sustained amount of super high quality content. I'm sure you'll grow much much larger soon! Thank you!

That’s a fantastic use case, I love it! And a very keen eye with that base building vehicle, I think the Ironclad would make the perfect transport!

Probably around 4.0 I’d assume. Which is coming this year!

At least a year if not more.

I think pyro is twice the size of stanton so its already pretty large, I think its the largest they could make it without server meshing.

I picked up the Assault for a ground-side F.O.B, and the IronChad for pira... cargo running.

'why are the distilled spirits always gone?' yo ho, yo ho

Nothing wrong with helping, I’m sure your support is very welcome!
Just need it to be able to carry my Vulture inside. And yes... during QT.
If it sits it fits, fingers crossed!
Picked up one of each, along with a Polaris. Now I need to find an org.

I agree, it’s brutalist and industrial in a way that screams classic Sci-Fi aesthetics. The design team did a great job with the Ironclad!

Getting the video out early!
i got the assault one and its gonna be to steal cargo haulers around systems
