I really like the sense of "teamwork" you created with this mission. Flying solo in DCS always feels a little "gamey" to me and this mission adds some immersion. I know getting these scripts to work right can be a very frustrating experience so thank you and it looks like you got it right :)
Thanks so much for the comment. That's what I was going for! I was thinking of using this mission as the basis for some ME tutorial videos about writing scripts.
@@Sidekick65 literally crap, since it's bright the flies love to poopy on it. I always make it a habit to check with a white background and if needed to spray a cloth with cleaning fluid and wipe it down 😅
I am assuming it is. I don't think I used anything from any mods. I probably used some wwII vehicles around the FOB. sorry didn't think about that causing a problem.
I haven't had much luck yet spotting the targets yet. Still working on seeing them from the air. Glad you put this video together, maybe it will help me a bit.
Flying the Bronco and looking for targets made me get a whole new level of appreciation for FAC (A)s. It is hard work to find, properly mark targets and then coordinate aircrafts to attack.
That's a very creative use of the assets, Sidekick. It looks like a fun mission. I wanted to mention that a terminal controller can specify when and how an attack aircraft approaches a target. So if you wanted you could tell the pilot "Make your attack west-to-east, stay below 4000, call IP inbound." Then the pilot would come in on a known heading, below a known altitude, and give you a second indication of their progress over a known point (beyond the obligatory "IN" call at the beginning of the terminal phase). The reason I mention all that is it gives you this nice, clear bit of airspace where you can safely orbit and some extra warning of the attack jet's approach. Now you can just do a big circle without having to go belly-up on the target (possibly at a time when you need to see the target and/or the striker).
Oh, I know all that stuff. I was actually an Arty FOO in a past life. Unfortunately, getting the DCS AI to understand is not so simple. Ground attack AI is particularly squirrely in DCS. This was the only I could find to get the AI attackers to do what I expected them to do reliably. As it is, they start WAY too far out, but it you start them any closer, they will turn around and go back out before coming in. The AI seems to need more than 5nm separation from target to think it has enough room to attack BAH! don't get me started on the DCS AI - I have spent WAY too many hours fighting with it over the past two weeks.
@@Sidekick65 You did a great job on this mission and I totally understand the DCS AI aspect. The last time I told an AI wingman to shoot a HARM at the SAM a few miles to our right, he went twenty miles to the left before turning around to shoot. If it wasn't so amusing I might have gotten upset.
On the second target as you were flying up from launching the marker rocket it looked you could see tracers coming up and I could hear what sounded like impacts on your aircraft the sound was of thud thud thud in rapid secession
Cool man! I'm looking for something like this since I got the Bronco. I've tested a mission made by a guy named Carsten Gurk and his script is a little bit more complex but works as well. 2) what I've noticed flying as FAC is that, well, it is hard! Not easy at all, that's why they took the best pilots to do this. Spotting targets under the jungle canopy is hard, I imagine doing this for hours straight. 3) the grass strip was a very nice touch.
Glad you enjoyed it. We are having a competition on my Discord to see who can engage 4 targets and get home the quickest. Come by and post your best times.
Love the plane and enjoyed this mission. Also revisited one of your classics and replaced the A-4 with the Bronco in ‘Troops in Contact’. Works fine and good fun. Just be aware of the AAA.
@@Sidekick65 tribute to the guys who did this in real life. Reading the book ‘Da Nang diary’ from Tom Yarborough. Brings home how dangerous this was and how many didn’t return.

Nice mission. Will it be on ED too? A Rumor of War and Fields of Fire-couple good books from a marine grunts point of view. Any luck with the Bronco radios and opening the canopy? Hoping devs will address those and the machine guns armed all the time issues. Thanks.
Howdy! Great video and the mission looks sweet, especially because ive been reading about FACs in broncos out of Da Nang in 70 and 71. This hits the spot! Question for ya tho- i dont have the ww2 assets but can i i open the mission and swap out the assets for something generic then play it? Thanks!
Unfortunately, I don't think you can. I should probably make a WWII-asset-free version. Tell you what, if you come to my Discord and remind me, I will move thay to the top of my list.
