    I agree that the association of Batman being able to be fantastical automatically means he’s silver age silly, while that’s obviously not true, I don’t think the realistic angle is entirely the problem. I feel like a part of it is the fact a lot of these versions that are “realistic” in that there’s no fantastical elements is because thats only done for typical action movie flair instead of actually going with it. That’s why I want to bring up Gotham 1919-1939 as an example of one of the two good realistic interpretations of Batman, and how it uses the historical setting to use fantastical characters in unique ways (like the effect that Mr. Freeze and Scarecrow have on the history).

    Writers seem to have forgotten Batman is human. Which is why he needs the gadgets why he resorts to being a detective and used a lot of tricks when fighting He isnt a brawler because he isn't Superhuman. The closest to this was BvS and it was dumb because they treated kryptonite like a light seitch instead of like it draining a battery which is what it actually does

    I agree to an extent... I do like Matt Reeve's The Batman. There are still 2 movies in that trilogy to come out, so there is a chance that we'll get to see the Batman you are looking for. First movie was specifically a year 2 Batman. Still learning. More about vengeance than justice. Next movie seems like it will involve Mr Freeze perhaps (given its winter setting). So he may need to step up and start using stealth and tactics. Unlike Bale's Batman, this version of Gotham seems more like comics Gotham. Not as gothic as Keaton's Gotham, but still not some rip off of Chicago or New York. Gotham has a uniquely gothic and dark feel to it. They didnt do it justice in the Dark Knight trilogy. That trilogy seemed to force those characters to fit in our world.

      @An.Unsought.Thought id love that to be the case, but unfortunately matt reeves has said he doesn't want to add any fantastical elements into his world and wants to keep it grounded

    The grounded-in-reality approach to Batman has now stagnated Batman as a character. They have to continuously water him down so the writers can justify how the mob and serial killer-type villains could stand a chance against Batman. We've also had twenty years of the same old grounded-in-reality approach let's mix it up as they literally have the most versatile fictional character of all time. In my opinion it's fear-based thinking.

    • @nicksorenson940
      @nicksorenson940 2 месяца назад

      That fear has always seemed to be rooted back to all of the negative backlash against Batman & Robin, and it just seems like ever since then WB has mostly been afraid to want to do anything with the character in live-action that could in any way be deemed too unrealistic or cartoonish. I'd argue that B&R's biggest fault was really with the kind of tone that fans would have wanted out of a Batman movie at the time and not so much with the imaginative sense of style, which Schumacher definitely went above and beyond with.
      Though having nipples molded onto the Batsuits is still one of the most baffling creative decisions out of the Schumacher movies and really weren't necessary to begin with no matter what the thought process was behind it. Just another thing that has never really helped the reputation of his films.

    Realistic Batman is definitely boring to say at least, but to say the entire concept is boring. Would be over exaggeration realistic Batman works on certain characters/ villains but not all the villains. I wish we could go back to the mystical fantastical side of things, but WB is too stupid to do so because of the bad movies that they made
    *(Cough) Batman & Robin (cough)*

    Anyone still remember these OnStar commercials with Batman that blended elements from both the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher movies before things started getting so realistic with Nolan? I can't help but feel like we've been robbed of any more live-action Batman movies in this type of style.
    ruclips.net/video/dD_imcfd76Y/видео.html
    Yes, I too have gotten kind of tired of all the newer live-action stuff just wanting to always take the extremely realistically grounded approach with the character, especially when it was never what drew me to Batman in the first place. We could still have more stylized depictions of the world of Batman, his suits, gadgets, vehicles, and villains, without meaning that it should have to end up being as campy as Batman & Robin was. The art deco style of Burton's movies ended up having a notable influence on the look of Batman: The Animated Series, and even in animation that iteration has always been taken seriously because of the writing of the characters and the performance of Kevin Conroy.
    But it's because it has such a strong artistic style along with villains that aren't always extremely grounded that BTAS is still one of my most favorite iterations of Batman media to watch over the Nolan or Reeves movies. I just wish we could start to see more of this sort of thing in live-action again.

    I do agree that I'm also not a fan of the stripped-down, grounded approach to Batman. But at the same time, he is not a superhuman who should be seen going up against just anybody. But yeah, his current vibe is pretty boring, IMO.

    I was bored silly watching that dross, three hours of nothing happening, they made batman into a mopey dullard rather than the calculating alpha male hes supposed to be. Marginally better than batman and robin, but not by much. And before you pattinson fanboys say i dont read the comics, ive been reading them since 2004, begining with hush and the JLA/Avengers crossover.
