Once Garl left the party, I really felt his absence when Zale became the main healer. I think I would rank Zale over Garl for me because you can boost his attacks and add Sun damage and Garl can't add another attack property to his boosted attacks. This can help break locks easier and also putting the accessory that reduces MP cost of skills on Zale means his Healing Light skill only costs 3 MP and becomes quite strong and easy to keep the party healed since one attack refunds the MP cost.
I do like Bst mainly out of the animations they were glorious to see, Zale and Valere I picked Zale on my end but I did kinda wish they both had abit more to them even if gameplay-wise they are indispensable and honestly the whole cast is useful given the level up system. I'd say Resh'an's Ultimate is the best and busted for healing, reviving, attacking, and even increasing the enemy's cooldown, but Garl's is best in the offensive part that I didn't know until I read what it does.
Part of me feels like they made the story around Serai and decided to make her a side character later on. She simply has the most going for her. Here’s my list, mostly based on character: 1) Serai 2) Resh’an 3) Garl 4) B’st 5) Zale 6) Valere
I thought the same. Seraï was as far the coolest character out of them all. I didn't know about the plot twist and it was one of the two big shocks I had about the game, and yeah, it's sad that the other characters weren't as developed as her. As for the ranking, I'd say more or less the same: 1) Seraï 2) Resh'an 3) Valere 4) Garl 5) Zale 6) B'St (it is a cool character but I didn't feel anything special about him as a character. He is useful, though)
Garl is, hands down, the best character in this game and certainly one of the best characters of all time. I will die on that hill. They're all good characters, but Garl is the only GREAT character.
And don't forget that B'st theme is basically a song from the beastie boys or at least shares the same vibe. With a lot of basketball references from the 80s-90s. Probably I know that because I'm old :') BTW Serai is DA BEST.
IM SO MAD, IM AT THE ENDGAME, FIGURED I COULD STAY AND WATCH, BUT SAW BOSS GAMEPLAY I DIDNT RECOGNIZE AND AS I CLICKED AWAY I HEARD GARL GETS RESSURRECTED BY B'ST UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH i DID totally think there'd be a chance he can come back but now i know how sighh its my own fault love this game so much, i'll watch the rest in like a day lmao
My personal favourite? It's hard to pick between Zale and Garl. With how I used their level ups Zale was a magical powerhouse, if you EVER found yourself facing the business end of his magical attacks you found yourself regretting your life decisions very quickly. As for Garl... you hit him and then he laughs in your face as he brushes it off. His defenses were insane as was his HP by the time I was done... so I'd say it's a toss up between those two for me.
I personally feel like making two separate lists to differenciate gameplay vs story. For example, Garl is my favorite in terms of personality and roll in the story, even though I consider him mostly the bottom in terms of combat utility except for having the best Ultimate Attack in the game. But the Final Boss is really the only one he really gets t chance to use against.
I love seraÏ, she's also the best character in my opinion, she feels the most "original" too. She's hot headed and impatient and that does impact in the story, like when she used Resh'an's Vial of time or when she didn't respect the Oracle of tides and he punishes her for that. I like how she has virtues and flaws, that makes her more realistic. I like Garl but he's just "too perfect" for me, I usually don't like the character that is always perfect like him, although he died because of this trait it didn't feel like he learned anything from it since in the true ending he'll be revived so his actions didn't have any consequences and in the 'first ending' where he indeed dies he didn't think what he did was wrong or anything like that. So in the end I'd rank Garl in third place maybe, of course that's my opinion!
I was a huge fan of Resh’an. At first I thought it was going to be revealed that he was the Messenger from the first game. Just wish his copy had more of a personality, felt like I was running through the later parts of the game with a bot rather than a party member.
[Spoilers] I've got a complicated opinion of Garl. Keep in mind I've only just made it to Serai's world, so I haven't beaten the game yet (though I have been spoiled that I'll need to revive Garl in the true ending). On the one hand, I like the pure-hearted friend character type and for Garl in particular I really like his loyalty, especially during his Borrowed Time segment. It takes a great character to remain so upbeat and determined to do everything he can for his friends even in the face of his looming death. I was genuinely impressed with the way he was written to be so at-peace with his doom and focused on doing everything he could to give his friends the best chance they could have. "Let's make it count" gave a pretty good tug at my heartstrings. On the other hand, I can also totally see where critics are coming from when they call him a spotlight hog. He's a little too impulsive, too quick to speak up sometimes, to the point where it feels like Valere and Zale aren't really allowed to do much. I don't even mean just in a narrative sense either; sometimes he will butt in or interrupt even in-story when they're being addressed or focused on. Less than an hour after joining the party he cut off the Elder Mist trying to explain how to use the travel golems ("X'tol? Cool!" [LAUNCH]) literally as the Elder Mist was trying to give them Y'eet's name, making Garl the reason you can't go back to Mooncradle. He's the one to have the entire connection and conversation with Malkomud about using his magic for good, leaving Valere and Zale, the kids who have been literally isolated for ten years so they can learn to use their magic for the greatest good, no room to share their extremely germane experience. Garl is the one who volunteers to arm-wrestle the pirate, despite ALL THREE agreeing that he's the worst choice (Valere and Zale specifically say they're letting him do it because the pirate in question doesn't look very strong and they figure Garl would be more fair as an opponent). And yeah, either of them probably would have lost to Jacko as well, but then it wouldn't be Garl's fault getting them indebted to the pirates (and there may even have been a moment of character growth for the Solstice Warriors about being overconfident!). Multiple times Garl promises Valere and Zale's help to someone without waiting for their input. Garl is the one to rally the Brisk refugees and take charge of building the new town, leaving Valere and Zale to be content to be laborers and guardsmen, and he's also the one to name the place, AND the one to suggest to _Valere and Zale's Headmaster, who was their mentor/father figure for a decade_ that he stay on as Elder when he's looking for purpose. When they need to see the Oracle of Tides and the Docarri on the surface tells them to select one shell and only one, Garl starts to do it himself before he even thinks to ask permission (which, of course, Valere and Zale grant him because they can't ever say no to him). Notably, when they hear afterwards that they need to stay close together for the magic to allow them all to breathe, he winds up giving the shell that he picked out to the party lead anyway. Would it have been too much to let the player choose the shell in that scene? And then, of course, Garl gets himself killed when he calls the Fleshmancer a loser after Resh'an specifically told them all not to attract his attention, AND THEN pushes the burgeoning guardian gods out of the way to take a magic shot for them, which Resh'an comments is definitely fatal for him because, unlike them, he has no innate magic to protect himself. Any of these alone would have been fine, even a few of them together. It would be less irksome if he occasionally got called out for his recklessness, too. (Not much, just a simple "Garl! The Elder Mist wasn't done talking to us yet!" "Oops, sorry...") It's the fact that Garl so consistently forces his way into center stage that started to bother me. Like, what if Zale, the quick one, was the one with the impulsive streak; he could have been the one to interrupt the Elder Mist and eagerly wrestle the pirate. Such an attitude could have also made him be the one to push everyone to chase the villager being Called by the banshee Dweller, making him feel responsible when it Calls Garl seemingly as punishment. Valere, the monk, could have been the patient one, the one to share her sense of duty with Malkomud along with the loneliness they felt because of their powers. And sure, let Garl chime in on those conversations (support Zale's decisions, complement Valere's story with his own perspective), and let Garl keep his time to shine with the town of Mirth, but let the protagonists have their own moments to share their thoughts and opinions, grow as characters, and connect to people other than Garl. As it stands, it feels like the only time I saw Valere or Zale show any depth of personality in the first act (beyond "Garl's great, isn't he?") was whenever the story sidelined Garl for any length of time. I can also point out that it's only now that Garl is dead that I've seen Zale and Valere have a one-on-one heart-to-heart with a party member other than each other, namely Zale and B'st and Valere and Serai (although, can't help but notice the girls' conversation is again centered on Garl). All that to say, sometimes it feels like the game really wants Garl to be the protagonist, except that his sidekicks are the ones with the necessary magic powers.
@@joacocho1 Yeah, I get pretty long-winded sometimes. Long story short, I like Garl generally and find a few of his scenes genuinely pretty touching, but also feel that he dominates way, way, waaaaay too many of the important plot scenes, to the point where the main characters don't feel like they have much personality or development.
This are EXACTLY my thoughts of Garl. To put it simple, Garl is like a cake, cake is delicious, once every month is cool, but if you eat cake every day or someone forces you to eat it you will end up hating it. Also i HATE how the game just tells us that Garl is "great, good, the best, likable" etc without ever showing us, the only times he actually acted like a good person were when he was feeding the people of Mirth and all the sidequest before he dies. As you said, Garl is just a spotlight hog, he overstays his "good persona" vibes so much that at some point i thought he would eventually will turn evil beause i thought there was no possible way that Sea of Stars made such a plain yet obnoxious character like him and leave it like that, yet here we are
So in the context of functionality in battles, they all have at least 1 aoe damaging ability, but because Resh’an is the only one to have their auto attack as AOE, that solidifies him at the top of my list. He also gets 2 heals, a random lock break, meaning he can always help break locks, and a knock back with his ult. Serai would be my number 2, her lock knock as a regular ability is so useful but hey lack of utility otherwise is what knocks her out of number 1. I also believe her ult is one of the least impactful. I struggle to find meaningful distinction between Garl, Zale and Valere, they each have a heal, they each have aoe damage, gals slightly egging out the others for healing and the other 2 edging him out for aoe damage potential. Bst sadly falls in last because he’s mostly designed to me your physical attacker, and in a game that values magic as much as physical, anyone that focuses on more heavily is left behind a bit. Yes, I’m aware that Resh’an is mostly magical, but his physical attack being aoe heavily offset that.
The best characters to pick are seraï and resh’an. You just perma delay your opponent and every fight becomes trivial. Then I just have valere Cus of healing / shields and stuff, but ultimately you just need seraï and resh’an for easy wins :)
For the Ranking of characters, I put aside their usefulness in combat, since in my opinion, it's not important for that type of Ranking, so even so Valere was one of my most useful members, due to how bland Zale and her are, I put Zale sixth, and Valere fifth, then it's Resh'an, it's a really great character in my opinion, but he can be a bit frustrating sometimes, and Sea of Stars pointed out the consequences of both his actions and inactions towards Aephorul, and I rank him in fourth. Then, there's B'st I really like him, but as you said, if we encountered him sooner, maybe we could have the opportunity to see more from him, even if the late quests gave us more details about his great personnality, he's third in my ranking. My second favorite character is Serai, she's extremely cool, and I loved to see her past, goals and behavior being more and more explained as we go through the game. And my most favorite character is Garl, I just love him so much, I often have an affect for deeply nice characters like him, but I don't know, there's something I just love about him, and when his death happneed...arg...it broke my heart...Garl is an incredible character..
I think all of the characters in this game are S tier. But I’m that tier I’d say my favourites were 6. Valere a great character but unfortunately someone had to be last, though her and Zale are kinda interchangeable in this list. 5. Zale the only reason I like Zale a little bit more than Valere is because I chose him so I naturally used him more. 4. Resh’an and his reveal was amazing and I like his role in the story being one who is willing to help but has to limit his power. 3. Serai (easily the best fighter in the entire game) I love her backstory and design, her entire move set is fun. 2. Garl need I even say more? He does his best and even though later on he’s not as good as other character’s his ultimate is easily the strongest. 1. B’st, mostly because of his animations and the champion arena quest which has my favourite song in the game and his selflessness to save Garl. Just resonates with me for some reason but I DO wish we got a bit more time with him.
I really liked the story. It was kinda similar to the feeling I got when I played games such as Tales of the Abyss or Legend of Legaia (both great games with awesome stories). In regards to the battle system I felt a little bit bored from time to time, and I continued playing because I was hooked with the story. The game lacked that essence of joyness compared to games such as Valkyrie Profile, for example. I mean, hitting an enemy twice or more just by tapping the button on the right time is nice but not so fun at all. Combos should have been more fluid to make this game even more exciting. Talking about the characters I would say that I really liked them but I found something fishy about three of them. Resh'an reminds me to Gogo from Final Fantasy or maybe Bard from League of Legends. All of them share some mysteries not revealed to the player, ensuring a kind of enigma to be deciphered. Serai is definitely Akali from League of Legends. She presents all the same traits: assassin, green clothes, ninja-style, uses kunais and even has a very similar hair style... I mean, seriously? And we also have B'st. He is really similar to Zac from League of Legends also. He presents a body which can adapt to the situation transforming into a ball bouncing everywhere leaving bloblets on the floor. Plus, he is really tanky. Zale is too similar to Jaster from Rogue Galaxy. Valere could be like Lenneth but i'm exaggerating here. All in all, I liked all the characters with their Steven Universe concept art imbued with some maturity. I know that it is difficult to create something new or different from everything already invented but maybe, they had to be a little bit more original at some point. Thanks for reading.
i get the feeling there is a wasted potential with B'st. Sure he can be a pretty good phys dpt and tank, but it's just too bad how its most powerful skill is something done by food (rezing fallen teammate)
0:40 I think you should pronounce him like Beast, since in French, his name is "B'stiol" which is pronounced like a synonym to the french traduction of Beast
Serai is a character I both want to rank high and low at the same time. She is good, till Garl's death. Where she doesn't show regret for creating the situation that killed him. The reason she is nervous for asking for help saving her world isn't even because she got someone killed. It makes her look manipulative and dishonest. She has been lying the entire game, like she only wants personal gain and is acting as a manipulator would. I think she'd be in 2nd or 3rd for me if she actually properly owned up to her actions instead of being a character we can't ever be 100% sure of their true intentions.
I've just gotten past that part in the plot and I'm seeing plenty of regret from her. "I'm so sorry for your loss..." and "I know I'm asking so much, especially in light of what happened..." are a couple of sentiments I remember off the top of my head, though I had to paraphrase a little since I don't remember the exact wording. Some of it comes from Camp conversations with her, but that second one, acknowledging that she's asking a lot from them, is something that's come up a few times between Garl's final act and arriving at her home. She also makes a firm point of showing Valere and Zale the Dweller of Dread through camera just to make sure they know what they're up against. As for creating the situation that got Garl killed, I mean... what was the alternative? They'd lost the Catalyst laser, and by all appearances it was obvious Valere and Zale were not winning the fight with the Dweller of Strife without it. They'd even been given a prophecy specifically telling them that if they got drawn into battle with the Dweller of Strife, victory would not be theirs, in those exact words. So they can't win, and they also can't escape from it. They were all about to die anyway. Desperate times call for desperate measures, right? Afterward Resh'an specifically warned them all not to draw Aephorul's attention, and during the following cutscene stopped Zale from doing so, but the moment Aephorul turns back to the party, Garl calls him a loser, drawing his attention and irritation. Garl then ALSO shoves Valere and Zale out of the way to take the shot for them, and Resh'an comments that it's definitely fatal for him because he has no innate magic to protect himself (which, to me, suggests that Valere or Zale might have been seriously injured but had at least a chance to survive). All that to say, Serai may have made the immediate situation much worse by summoning the Fleshmancer back, but the alternative was "everyone but Resh'an dies and the world is doomed" and afterward Garl did pretty much everything he could to contribute to his own death.
Garl to me should be on - "Get him the fuck out of this game" - tier. He's probably the reason I lost almost all interest in playing this sadly. The story in the demo was enchanting, the graphics were fun, it was different and yet familiar. Until Garl.. Garl.. he broke every bit of player agency, he stole the limelight "just because he's Garl HUR HUR WOAHH SO COOL" - and he was forced onto us like an unwanted child. I have zero respect for this character and I find it to be a weird self insert of a bad fan-fic.
Honestly a pretty disappointing roster. The game clearly has some legit charm to its world, but almost none of that is in the heroes, and while I can at least appreciate the golem for trying something beyond humans, it's hard for me to connect with an inorganic character as opposed to an anthro or a beast/living monster. I'll wait and see if the DLC adds a molekin or an anthro/organic monster character. Also, before anyone mentions Reshan, I don't count him/her because it has a human form, which just makes Rashan a human shapeshifter, and it comes off as a crutch because you didn't think your audience would relate to a bird anthro (or something even more disgusting) , when really, it's HUMANS I can't relate to, so this just backfires and makes what could have been an awesome character feel more generic and shallow.
I agree with this to a degree, I'm still stunned we didn't get a specific molekin as it would fit both in elements and damage type. Same with there being a bird which shows up almost immediately after we get our 6th party member which has more relevancy to the plot. B'st is very much a no one with no plot relevancy which hurts.
As a character in the story i agree, he is annoying, BUT in the game he is OP dude, his nourish ability can heal almost 100 hp with the reight timing (And later on it heal 200hp), Hurl is super good to position enemies for AoE attacks, cooker surprise can almost instakill every enemy, and his ultimate is just straight up broken (Even if it you can only use it on the final boss lol)
Well I don’t appreciate the spoilers without warning!! I watched this video to see the rankings to play accurately.. yet you gave major plot points and possibly ruined the storyline. Not cool dude!! NOT COOL
My brother in Christ, did you not read the title, nor the big Spoiler Warning message on screen at the start of the video. There was a warning, you just chose to ignore it and now you are blaming your bad decisions on other people.
To rank the party with stuff based on their story literally means there will be spoilers. This is like clicking on a video that says it is about a final boss, getting upset that you clicked on the video, then getting setup at the up loader it didn't say spoilers. I know you're better then this, don't deflect onto others your own error.

Aint nobody reading alldat
@@joacocho1 Yeah, I get pretty long-winded sometimes. Long story short, I like Garl generally and find a few of his scenes genuinely pretty touching, but also feel that he dominates way, way, waaaaay too many of the important plot scenes, to the point where the main characters don't feel like they have much personality or development.
@@joacocho1 I did
This are EXACTLY my thoughts of Garl.
As you said, Garl is just a spotlight hog, he overstays his "good persona" vibes so much that at some point i thought he would eventually will turn evil beause i thought there was no possible way that Sea of Stars made such a plain yet obnoxious character like him and leave it like that, yet here we are
Jesus Christ
Serai was my fav too ❤
Bst s tier just cause his sprites are the most expressive of em all
For the Ranking of characters, I put aside their usefulness in combat, since in my opinion, it's not important for that type of Ranking, so even so Valere was one of my most useful members, due to how bland Zale and her are, I put Zale sixth, and Valere fifth, then it's Resh'an, it's a really great character in my opinion, but he can be a bit frustrating sometimes, and Sea of Stars pointed out the consequences of both his actions and inactions towards Aephorul, and I rank him in fourth.
But I’m that tier I’d say my favourites were
I can't not choose b'st as my fave. He's so fucking cool and his ultimate blew me away
In French, his name is b’stiole which is pronounce bes-te-ol, so I guess the right way is Best and not Beast
Yes please give me an option to remove the pirate dance. The ship is badass on its own :)
i get the feeling there is a wasted potential with B'st. Sure he can be a pretty good phys dpt and tank, but it's just too bad how its most powerful skill is something done by food (rezing fallen teammate)
I still laughed at Gordon Ramsey again 😅
I really loved your video, just amazing.
Thank you so much!
kind of irrelevant ot the video, but how do you have THAT much HP only at level 19 ? 6:17
he's using the relic that doubles HP and heals after every battle
@@guillermx_jerin yeah i figured that out eventually and.completed the game
@@ChawkyVirus lmao i thought your comment was "11 minutes ago" I'm now realizing it's 11 MONTHS 💀💀
Shame tweaks wasn’t a party member. But maybe in the dlc
0:40 I think you should pronounce him like Beast, since in French, his name is "B'stiol" which is pronounced like a synonym to the french traduction of Beast
Teaks = best character
NO NEEED TO WATCH THE VIDEO, GIGACHAD GARL IS THE MAIN PROTAGONIST OF THIS STORY!
HOW YOU DARE TO THAT TO FER
@@Buglin_Burger7878 If we get a Molekin playable in DLC, I would love that.
garl was annoying and his abilities werent very useful with having no elemental affinity i never used him
As a character in the story i agree, he is annoying, BUT in the game he is OP dude, his nourish ability can heal almost 100 hp with the reight timing (And later on it heal 200hp), Hurl is super good to position enemies for AoE attacks, cooker surprise can almost instakill every enemy, and his ultimate is just straight up broken (Even if it you can only use it on the final boss lol)
Garl made me dislike the game. Along with dude main character and Valere.
@tomflannigan2465 I'm glad I'm not going insane! I was certain that there was a spoiler warning at the start AND in the title!
To rank the party with stuff based on their story literally means there will be spoilers.
This is like clicking on a video that says it is about a final boss, getting upset that you clicked on the video, then getting setup at the up loader it didn't say spoilers. I know you're better then this, don't deflect onto others your own error.
SPOILERs!!!!!!!!!!!!!jesus say that shit in the title.
I loved serai ...and didnt like garl ,never used him..
And didnt even get sad at his death and didnt even get happy at his comeback
