I had this for exactly one year. Was horrible from day one to day 365. All of the sudden, one night, it was GONE! one minute from the next basically. No change in between.
If you still have it. It can go away by the snap of a finger. Don’t lose hope

I suffer from this and its horrible.. I have had covid-19 two times now. The first time I never experienced this issue. Months after having covid-19 a second time I started smelling this horrible smell. Its been 8 months and I still having this odd smell pop up out of no where. For me it always smells the same when it happens... it smells like a dead body. I had a neighbor pass away years ago he lived in the apartment below me. I'll never forget that horrific smell. I'm constantly asking others do you smell that horrible smell? They say no... At first I thought is it my body putting off this odor.. lol. Nope it's not... I use Vicksburg vapor rub and put a small amount right under my nose when it happens. This does help me... hey I'd rather smell anything than a dead body smell. Lol not fun!

Edit October 2022: Month 11. No improvement. I'm starting to think it's permanent. I have since got covid again, but with no effect to my smell. The first time is was just a light headache and loss of smell. The second time, severe headache, dizzyness, weakness, couldn't stay awake, ear buzzing, and it felt like acid on my face and in my head. Also had coughing.

I had covid twice as well, and let me tell you, it resets the whole parosmia process. The first time I had covid was in November 2021 and I didn't get my normal sense of smell back until July 2022. What sucks is that I only had my smell back for about 2 weeks until I got covid for the second time. The symptoms weren't as bad, and I was back to normal in about 4 days, but the parosmia returned and now I'm basically back to square one. Stay strong. I read somewhere that using a tongue scrapper helps, also try getting real zinc supplements.

I'm on day four of COVID. I'm a 41 male and healthy in general. It's my first time getting it. I had a fever and chills the first two days, and now I just have a bad sinus cold with Parosmia. It's all I am researching right now as the smell of rotten eggs is making me gag! Has anyone had luck with those fragrances to sniff (smell training) or Gabapentin? One thing I can add is that I've always had this talent since I was a kid, where I can stick my tongue in my throat easily. My dentist and ENT said they never saw anyone else who can do this. It helps clearing out my sinuses, etc. But this time when I put my tongue back by my nasal passages ( I can block my nasal breathing with my tongue), it's super cut up feeling and raw. Normally its very smooth. But this is worse than any previous sinus infection. So this cut up feeling is obviously a part of it I am thinking.

Here is all I know about parosmia tastes/smells in my own experience. For those who are curious and don't know let me tell you:
RAW garlic and onion both have the smell of gasoline. The taste is kinda like eating gasoline but I still taste the sweetness from onions. If I however push through the unpleasant taste I can actually briefly taste the real raw onion. COOKED garlic and onion smell of burnt rubber or something similar, taste remains same as in raw taste test.
RAW lettuce and sweet peppers/paprika smell and taste like old wooden antique furniture (yeah I can't put it any other way). COOKED sweet peppers/paprika has the same burnt rubber taste and smell as onions and garlic.
RAW red meat tastes bland and kinda normal. COOKED Has the burnt rubber touch once again.
COOKED EGGS have a sulfuric smell and taste, it literally feels like eating solid farts. Very unpleasant.
Lastly coffee, it tastes and smells like liquid burnt rubber, I can't smell the fresh coffee anymore, even if I pushed through it and drank a lot at once. A side note also, coffee and pee/poo all share the same smell.

Mine started in about October ‘21, it’s not as severe now, but still quite debilitating.😢. I am laying in my room right now with my T-shirt up over my nose as my family has dinner, I’m so hungry but can’t find anything right now in the house that I can eat or that is even a little bit tempting. The weird thing is that some things seem to come and go, I was finally able to eat sandwiches a while back, I made one today and it was disgusting!😢 Sometimes I can eat steak with just salt & pepper on it, but sometimes I absolutely can’t even come near it.
Worst part is that I don’t think people truly even remotely understand this, even my family looks at me weird and kind of disgusted when I’m covering my face, like I’m being dramatic, that’s such a sad and lonely feeling. Being hungry and thinking of what you want to eat and everything that pops in to your head is some thing you know you can’t have, especially when you are out and about, sometimes it becomes such an overwhelming sadness.
      I just want this gone.😡
(One of my 3 daughters has it too, and my son.)
It really seems like when I think about everything that the worst things used to be my favorite things, it seems like the only things I can eat are bad for me, (sugars) at least if I was losing some weight I guess I wouldn’t feel as bad, but I haven’t lost or gained a pound😣

I had Covid in October and lost my taste and smell. Nothing has returned to normal, I can easily smell things that stink but have a difficult time smelling things that are good. I have to get very close to flowers or candles just to get a hint of the smell, and my taste buds are all out of whack. Nothing tastes the way it should. It isn't bogus, it's so very frustrating. A person has no idea how much they use both of those senses until they no longer work properly.
