Thank you so much for your time and LOVING heart. I wanted to leave a comment on your other tortilla video, but it was disabled. I don't know how anyone could possibly leave your lovely heart a disrespectful comment. I am an all American white girl in love with all Mexican and Peruvian dishes, so far :-) . Great video mija!😉👍💜
In my family we've been making flour tortillas for generations and we've never used baking powder .
The tortillas always come out soft and pliable ,and stay pliable for days...if any survive that long!😉😆
Don't worry about the people nagging you about not using baking powder.
Unlike popular belief baking soda does not make your tortillas softer... baking powder is used to help flour rise, like for making breads, cakes, cookies, and empanadas.
If you work your tortilla dough properly and let it rest you won't have any problems.
Baking powder can actually cause your tortillas to become hard and brittle really quickly.
Unless you live in a very humid area you don't have any use for baking powder.

Patricia Molina Omgosh Patricia! You answered all my questions about baking powder in ur comment section. @@sylvia4425 Hi Sylvia, try to let the dough rest for at least 45 min.- 1 hr. and another 20-30 min. after you roll out the ball.

      @@julieslaymaker1966 Hi Julie!🤗
You can definitely use baking powder if humidity is too high.
Try making a small batch first.
I suggest starting out with 1 tsp. for every 4 cps. of flour.
Remember to always let your dough rest, at least 45min.- 1 hr. then 20-30min.after rolling out the balls.

OMG!! I was always so tempted to add more flour when my dough would be so sticky. Like you said in your original tortilla video, it's a never ending battle and YES I would just throw in the towel! Haha! But, so happy I came across your video. NOW I know, I just need to put in work! "YOU CAN DO IT, PUT YOUR BACK INTO IT!" HAHA!
I wanted to share something my mother shared with me long ago when I use to help her roll tortillas. Like you, I would flip and roll the tortillas all kinds of ways and also use my fingers to stretch out my perfectly rounded tortilla. Well she caught me, and then said "there's no need for all of that!" I thought she was gonna pull out a tortilla smasher or something great! But nope...she simply said, "You don't need to flip the tortilla Tina. Your only going to turn in clockwise and roll it once up and once down, then rotate it again at about 3:00 《《《 meaning turn your tortilla the top of it to 3pm on a clock to the right, and then again roll up once and down once, then rotate again, to about 6pm ..now your tortilla is upside down basically, roll up once and down once, rotate, to 9pm on a clock to the left, and at this point you should have a even circular tortilla. "Should " lol seems like alot too but gave me some type of pattern or repetitive structure when in comes to rolling tortillas. Not gonna lie I still find myself using my fingers/pinchers to perfect- ionize mine. Thanks so much and I can't imagine who would have the decency to be so dang disrespectful in a place designed to share YOUR own experiences and recipes? Ignorance..always present when it not need to be.

Best tortillas I have EVER had in my life. Super easy with your instructions... I made them with you. I first watched your 5 dozen tortilla recipe and thought who would want to make that many at one time... well... my husband, son and I ate 8 for dinner (fish tacos), then we had two scrambled egg/bacon wraps for breakfast, then I had a turkey wrap for lunch. That left one for my son who came to lunch too late... so in less than 24 hours the dozen tortillas were gone. Now I see why you would make 5 dozen at one time. Thank you! I will never buy them again.

I should add that I’m from semi-arid desert, high altitude area of Calgary Alberta Canada. I need to add probably a quarter to half cup extra water to the flour. It’s very dry here. I added lots of salt for amazing flavour, I use Utah’s Redmond’s salt bed salt...loaded with tons of minerals and harvested without the use of radioactive chemicals or blasting.

The Hispanic foods is most certainly my families favorite dishes. When I was seven my parents let a Hispanic husband and wife moved in with us. My father was in the Army and we were living in Germany because that's where my dad was stationed he was a low in regards to his rank. So getting a place on base was not easy so we rented a place. This couple was in the same boat. They didn't have much money so they couldn't affored a place so they moved in with us and it was a win/win. The woman taught my mother so many things in regards to making many of her dishes. She taught her also how to make flour tortillas. My mother never shared her new found recipes. I would request my favorite ones for my birthday. I finally got her to share them with me. I do have to admit they weren't as good, but you have taught me in regards to what I was doing wrong. I treasure you and your sister your both very kind, sweet and helpful ❤️ ❤️ THANKS LADIES......

Thank you. I have been experimenting with different recipes. My mother’s recipe never came out right until I saw how long you worked your dough. After working my dough longer everything came to form. I will say that people need to get away from processed lard products like snow cap lard. Rendered pork fat is the real deal and gives your tortillas more flavor. It is more expensive or more work to collect your own but I think it’s far worth it. Hydrogenated oils is horrible for your body, especially the BHT and BHA added in. Just my two cents. But thanks for explaining how you worked your dough. I feel like ass not trying they before. Priceless.

Steph is here sharing her cooking secrets and experiences with people, which she really don’t have to do, and all those people who criticize her don’t even appreciate it! I’ve come across a few people who do that crap which is why I will watch multiple videos for the same dish, to see what’s right and who is being true. Okay, so I had to try out the recipe after watching this video. I used lard (homemade) instead of crisco butter, but other than that, the recipe was the same. I'm in south Texas so its very humid here so I did not have to use all of the water. The dough was wonderful to work and actually it never was sticky. Not sure if it was the lard but it never got sticky. I kneaded it for about 6 minutes. I was able to get 11 balls with just eyeballing. They were NOT round by any stretch of the imagination but I got better after each one. They were fabulous and fun to make. You were right there (in my head) all the time! Thank you. Now THIS is the recipe I’ll be making, even though I just watched the other 50 min video while I was cleaning my living room lol. 😆
But that’s because I already have the one ingredients ready. I’m going to send my husband to get the Manteca while he’s out. Thanks for your videos!

This was a lot of fun. I used to use lard, but for health reasons, began experimenting with olive oil. It was a simple thing, and the tortillas were more like huaraches. But, they did fine. I also began adding 1 tsp. Cumin powder. It gave a great flavor. I never tried rolling them, but used a large, wooden press. Those left over from the meal, were stuffed with jelly the following morning. It was a breakfast sort of thing. I've really been enjoying your videos. I get the feeling of home, even in these Kentucky hills.

Trying this tomorrow in my bread machine on the dough cycle. I've started handling dough with wet hands rather than flour. It's made a difference in my breads.

Thank you for inserting the commentary about the bread flour because all night I have been searching for videos for flour tortillas using bread flour and the pros and cons. Your video was by accident for that specific purpose (I've seen your other videos), but I'm glad you mentioned it here. So, bread flour - ay que no.

When I was a little girl I use to help my nana, Mom and Tia Barbara make them. I've never forgotten how good they were. I can't believe how good they came out on my first try. I made them side by side with you, Thank you. I love your energy! So fun to watch you cook. I subscribed. Looking forward to making more of your recipes.

Awesome videos! Love how u describe every detail & make jokes here & there. My son(3yrs old) was watching the video as well he was asking what u were making & what ingredients u had so I was telling him. He's my helper in the kitchen when it comes to cooking :) keep up the great job ur doing as a mother, wife & great cook!
I'm a mother of 5 kiddos (3 boys& 2 girls) my duties never end when it comes to my family. My spouse of 4yrs loves my tortillas he always ask me to make tortillas w/cheese the kids copy or ask for peanut butter or grape jam. Ur right also once tortillas are made there's a rare chance for leftovers haha. Have a great day & keep up the awesome work ur doing in the kitchen. From my family in NM to yours best wishes for the awesome dishes to come :)

Girl, glad you came up with a smaller amount of flour tortillas LOL. I used to prepare many of the recipes you have while growing up. I cooked for 6 siblings to help my grandma. Thank you for bringing those recipes. I was born in the U.S. but raised in Mexico with all those Mexican recipes. I also like the twists you give them. God Bless you and your entire family.

I think this is the first time that youtube's random recommendation sent me to a newly posted video that wasn't a subscription. I have even less desire to make traditional from scratch tortillas now but I'm glad I watched. I have a quick/easy recipe for puffy flour tex-mex type tortillas that I haven't made in a while and I think a couple of your methods here will improve the results.
It does have baking powder, lol, but that's only to help make them puffy and thicker than the style of tortilla in your video. Though, now thinking on it, maybe I shouldn't be so intimidated by the time consumed in the kneading part of making your recipe. I think I may have always relied too much on adding flour to un-sticky the dough.
And now I want to make mine, nevermind that I have a package of tortilla land tortillas languishing in the fridge waiting to be cooked, lol.

I don't think I've ever appreciated a tortilla as much as I do now, LOL! Takes a lot more work then I ever imagined, yikes! I don't have the patience for this recipe. I know they won't be nearly as good as yours, but I'll continue to use store bought for now, hahaha! Great video though, thank you!
