Really enjoyed watching this process. Loved the "hook" or "plot twist" Jeny had for her decision process for not making the feature discoverable on the main feed.
Thanks so much for this video! I’m just starting to train myself to get better at these, and I’ve got a couple of questions. Is it okay to ask stakeholders things like, "What will be different in the paid communities?" since that feels more like something a product owner would handle? Also, where's the line between designing the UX for a feature and actually creating it? Should a designer come up with the content themselves, or is it okay to ask the stakeholders for that kind of input? Thank you!
Hey there, thanks for your questions! Well, you can ask if they know already what should be different in the paid communities, but it's expected you can tell me how we can find this out :) if you are too reliant on product managers it's not a good sign. There are research methods you can and should recommend us to find this out. Also, it's expected you can empathise with users shortly, bring your knowledge about similar tools that exist already (talking about competitors) and make plausible assumptions about the bare minimum of features we need without a PM telling you this. So I would say you can ask, if you are a very, very junior we will give you a discount, but it might not look good if you don't give any proposals about how we can find out and what can be included in the MVP and you need to be aware of this. With the content, it's the same. Whether it's some sketches for visuals or basic UX copy, you are expected to be able to create the first version to outline the direction somehow. If you are too dependent on a copywriter, that might not look good. The second question I am not sure I understand, we use words designing and creating mostly interchangeably. So you can say they are synonyms in most contexts :)
