Carrot top pesto, broad bean hummus, dried rosehip tea, ground cornmeal, pea and mint dip...your culinary creativity knows no bounds. How fulfilling to nurture yourselves from the fruit of your own labor and nature's generosity!
Such a great lesson to focus on what you love doing, growing and eating! How great that you’re also establishing a community to share and trade with! You’re doing great!
How wonderful! In the times of crisis that are coming upon the earth you are among the queens. Those in the cities will not have food but you will have plenty because you made the change in time. You are an example for everyone.
Well done! You not only learned how to grow veggies and many other things but learned wisdom along the way. You have so much wisdom for one so young. Have a great 2023 I will be watching!👍
One of the things I admire about you the most and I'm sure it's your best quality is your honesty... thank you so much for sharing and showing us your successes and failures you've been a great inspiration to those of us that follow you...te deseo. lo mejor👍😎🐕🐱
Last year was fabulous but it only gets better and easier. You will grow what you want to grow and enjoy the farms produce. The neighbors will supply nwhat they do best . That is what makes friends and a community. You are well on your way.
Do you ever watch something and get that lightbulb moment, even if it’s something obvious? Nettle pesto and acorn flour?! 🤯 mind blown and *chefs kiss* 🤌
Working with the local community, so that you can all swap and exchange products/fruits/veg/ skills makes loads of sense and slows down waste. Win, win for all 😊
Very wonderful you are eating all these vegetables and fruits from your garden. They are healthy and organic no preservatives which is great. You have a beautiful life .. keep enjoying it and don’t forget to give thanks to God for all HIS BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND. 🙏🙏💐💐
What a superb, delicious array of fruits and vegetables you have been able to grow and eat through last year, thanks to a lot of of dedication and hard work. But you are absolutely right, there is no need to punish yourself into being perfect at growing everything. Better choose your battles and enjoy growing what you really appreciate and make the most of collaborating with your neighbours.
If only the world held more people like you who care for the earth and not just for the almighty dollar! So many young teens could learn much more about the satisfying aims of life following you rather than watching endless TikTok videos that promote fake images of happiness....Your work is a gift!
THIS WAS A WONDERFUL LOOK BACK. I FOLLOWED THE WHOLE LAST YEAR, AND WHAT AN EXPERIENCE, WATCHING YOUR SELF SUFFICIENCY EVOLVE. THANKS FOR SHARING , A GREAT ABUNDANCE OF SUCCESS. WORDS WELL SAID, DO WHAT MAKES US HAPPY, THATS THE KEY. ENJOY YOUR YOUTH. I WISH I HAD SPENT MORE OF MY YEARS TENDING TO A GARDEN. NOW IM ALMOST TOO OLD TO DO THAT, AND ITS A BUMMER. HOWEVER SEEING THIS NEXT GENERATION EMBRACING FARMING ON ANY SCALE MAKES ME SMILE. BE BLESSED, FROM IDAHO U.S.A. MAY YOUR GARDEN BE ABUNDANT IN 2023.
Und was für ein tolles Gemüse für ein ganzes Jahr !! Super gemacht ! Isst du überhaupt gar kein Fleisch ?? Und was für tolle lilane "Bohnen", ist es die "Blauhilde" ??
You did a real good job eating from your garden daily. Your home and garden is looking good. You should be proud of everything you have done while learning.
Absolutely do what you like and eat what your favorite things are from your garden. I believe we are each here to help each other, serve each other and share our bounties with each other; it’s rewarding to exchange or to gift your harvest to others, it’s a lovely way to live. Keep doing what you’ve realized is good for you! May this year be even more of a learning experience all around your beautiful home and may your journey bring the joy of your life within your family. Be well and safe and much love to all ❤. You’ve done an amazing job with your videos, please keep them coming.
Harriet for a novice gardener, you are doing remarkably well. Keep up the great work you and Maro do. Your young, and this is the time to follow and fulfill your dreams! 👊🏻🫶🏻
Wow, you two should be so proud of yourselves. Y'all created a wonderful year!. I have been very impressed. The layout of everything seems so welcoming. You even got the attention of your local paper, that is awesome. I would love to have neighbors like you & Mario. Are you two thinking of starting any businesses other than you tube from the homestead? I can see you making goats milk soap one day. It's a big seller here in the U.S. Veggies boxes, so many ways to make money to help pay for the materials you need to get things the way you want. You two are truly an inspiration. I may be in Texas, but I tell everybody about Little Spanish Farmstead. Looking forward to seeing the vision you have for the coming year! All the best & God bless
Ooooh I like the idea of goats milk soap, I didn't know you could do that. I'll look into it, because I can see ourselves getting tired of goats cheese every day 😂
What a year you had! And vicariously, what a year you gave those of us watching your excellent account of the relationships you are culturing with other life on this little piece of the planet! Thank you!
You have done amazing things and I think you’re right to come to the decision of doing ‘what you can and like’. Being in community and bartering is the best part of life
Good morning Harriet. Anothe great video. Well done. Just like you, I like to start the day with a healthy salad grown from the ingredients on what used to be my lawn, but is now a family garden. Those freshly harvested olives look absolutely delicious and I love the wine collection. 🌼🌹
Love what you have done with your farmette. Please show us how you prepare your food. In America we don't eat enough veggies. When we grow new things we don't know how to prepare it. Looking forward to you growing that new life. Youur Channel has grown into a productive enjoyable endeavor. Well done Harriet.
you've done such an amazing job already!! it was really fun to watch how the garden progressed over the past year. and yes!! I would love more cooking videos, be it getting through an entire pumpkin or just day-to-day recipes you find yourself really enjoying. even just sharing recipes in the description when you have time would be a treat because some of those dishes looked amazing!
I adored this video and so did my kids (5 & 7)! It's dreary here in Portland, Oregon, USA and this was inspiring because you reminded me to move with the seasons. It makes me feel better that we're getting just kale and tree collards from our urban backyard garden right now! I also loved that you talked about relying on community for your resiliency and not just focusing on self-sufficiency. That seems both wise and kind to yourself! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
I have strong feeling that you deserve at least 200-300 K subscribers at this point up to the 1 M (and views). I belive you'll be there! Thank you for your youtube broadcasting
Great video! What you say about not being totally self sufficient is very true. Not even our Ancestors were. I’ve been growing food, flowers and medicine for decades and will never be self sufficient. There are just too many variables that are out of our control. Weather, pests, health. Playing to your strengths and supporting your health are wonderful things.
Watching you with the garden has me waiting for the day my job to slow down a bit so I can do my garden again. Not so into leafy stuff but peppers, onions, potato's, tomato's and beans.... Yum!
Your harvest baskets look so fresh, colourful and tasty. You compose your greens and fruits and veggies to a living picture of garden art and this is also valid for the dishes. Have you thought about printing and selling the images a poster or a calendar? Of course I would rather take the content of the basket than a paper version ;-) Now I am hungry after watching and definitly need an orange juice at least... Thanks for this inspiring compilation, have a sunny and fruitful winter season 2023!
Thank you for all your diligence and hard work... your humble approach embraces your very own enough-ness and and by doing so, allows us all feel that in ourselves.
Wow what an accomplishment for your “Challenge“ to not become a challenge anymore but to have it be a way of life! Definitely something to be proud of! And I totally agree about not striving for 100% self sufficiency. It takes away from the importance of community and supporting those around us. We as human beings were meant to be part of tight knit communities where we all come together to support each other. I love how much you have been doing this with your friends and neighbours, it’s very inspirational. No one can do it all but all as one we can 🥰
Harriet, Of the homesteaders I watch in the U.S.A, this point about being not being able to be 100% sustainable seems to be a common thread lately. However if anyone could get close it would be you! Besides all your other accomplishments I cannot believe the amount of produce you grew!!! The videos you produce are inspirational, educational, beautiful and entertaining. It's so good of you both to encourage this way of living to as many people as possible. Stay well.
I'm completely amazed at your journey! I just found your Channel about six months ago. You are truly an inspiration, and I am so grateful that I get to watch alongside you and I have learned so much. I live near the mountains and am hoping to get a plot of land to build a tiny home and a garden now that my nineteen-year-old daughter is leaving home. You're giving me hope that I can accomplish my dream. God bless and happy Valentine's Day from Greenville, South Carolina.
Harriet, this video was exceptional. So glad you did decide to make it. I just loved it. The meals you prepared looked amazing and were actually very artistic and beautiful. You are very much a gourmet cook. Truly inspiring and a video I will definately go back and watch again. I wish you a really wonderful and fruitful year and look forward to seeing how things progress. Take care and thank you so much. 🥰
Congratulations on more than meeting your challenge! What a satisfying feeling it must be. Being part of a barter economy is definitely a great way of being self sufficient. You’re right that self-sufficiency doesn’t have to mean that you yourself produce everything you consume - as you found, that’s not practical or ideal in many cases. It’s about not having to depend on global supply chains, big chain stores, and lots of shipping in order to eat, and you’ve certainly achieved that.
That was the best video yet! Being in the city, all of it is eye candy. The color of the stone, the dirt and the warm yellow sunlight. And half those vegetables I’ve never seen before or see how they grow. I have never seen fresh plums or almonds in those shells. Anyway, thank you both for great videos!
Harriet you have done a great job on this homestead with your plantings. You seem to know everything. You are JACK OF ALL TRADE and that is a very good way to be. You don’t seem to be afraid of any challenge you handle everything with confidence and you get it done ✅ again congratulations on all your achievements AND GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU ALWAYS. CONGRATS!!🎊🍾
Wow. So amazing. What an accomplishment. AND all the things you didnt show in this garden episode, all your other projects in and around the house and land. You both should be very, very proud. Please keep posting your videos. And I'm pulling for you to hit that magic 100k subscriber mark!
A successful year all round Harriet & Mauro … and bartering is a great way of life👌 can u please put link to your pickling of radish seedpods on next video🙏🙏🙏
Loved your waffle at the end 💚 Great vid and great advice about not being able to do everything ... we are slowly starting to learn the same leason here and just trying to focus on what we actually want to do, instead of what we 'think' we should be doing1!! So magical to see how much super fresh food you were able to harvest all year, the oranges, olives and grapes and all the stuff we can't grow here in the UK looked AMAZING too ... little bit jealous and super inspiring seeing what you achieved ✌🌿
What an action packed year! I imagine it would be hard to sustain that level of intensity in the long run so outsourcing some aspects sounds like a smart move - having a bit of a "life" outside of homesteading never hurts either. Looking forward to see how 2023 shapes up - keep up the good work.
This is my favorite video so far. Maybe a challenge for this year take a picture of one meal a day and list ingredients and method( these would be great for youtube shorts. This would give you a recipe book with a little winter time editing to sell next year. Personally I’m really interested in how you gather from the garden and then prepare. Like you say in your video, what you thought was important at the beginning of last year didn’t seem so important now. You are on the cutting edge of how to transition from city life to country life, and you seem to have a simple a clear ability to communicate how and what you are doing. Thank you for your devotion to sharing with us, especially the stuff that doesn’t always go as you want.
I didn't produce much last year it was much to hod and it did not grow. You did a great job girl please keep on going you are a great inspiration to us all.😇💓💓💓
I think this video really shows how important a community is, how much more you can accomplish together and how fun it can be. Besides that I'm actually surprised at how much you were able to rely on your own garden, keeping in mind that this was your first try and you're still experimenting. Very cool!
Use a piece of PVC pipe about 3 - 4 inches around. Cut it a little wider than your hand in length. The cut out a 2 in wide strip from top to bottom. Use a file to sharpen one side. Use the sharp edge to cut dried corn kernels off the cob.
This was my favourite video so far :) thanks for showing us everything you've achieved food-wise in 2022... Inspirational and it made me happy to watch!
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys, I like your waffles sharing with your neighborhood is very nice getting new friend's in joy ing your foods and drinks together.
I freeze many of my dryed produce to kill off as many bugs as possible. I also oven dry can all my nuts once shelled, they last for years! Thanks you for this great video!
Great compilation, Harriet! I love seeing your baskets of produce and then the actual meals you come up with. You are very creative with it all. I think your idea of growing what you like and what you can swap is a good idea and leave out trying to be perfect! BTW, have the goats come home yet from their romantic holiday?
I love your final comments, so important to not make it a competitive marathon of homesteading 😣 you certainly had enough of a cornucopia for your first year! I’m starting to prepare beds for spring, poc a poc xx
Carrot top pesto, broad bean hummus, dried rosehip tea, ground cornmeal, pea and mint dip...your culinary creativity knows no bounds. How fulfilling to nurture yourselves from the fruit of your own labor and nature's generosity!
Im in awe in what you have produced in 1 yr. Your culinary skills are amazing 👏 Im about to harvest my broad beans & want to try your hummus❤
I think you are intelligent and amazing in many ways. Your videos have been great.
Everyone in the world needs to do this. 😎

Do you ever watch something and get that lightbulb moment, even if it’s something obvious?
Nettle pesto and acorn flour?! 🤯 mind blown and *chefs kiss* 🤌
All looks good..🌱🌱
I crave salads..these guys in this house are Carnivores..lol
I’m the veggie person
Keep up the great work ..all you do is Awesome
Being a vegetarian, seeing all these beautiful fruits and veggies was like watching a dream. So beautiful and bountiful!
your energy and willpower is just stunning.
Exceptionally well done, Harriet! You make us want to live better too!
That's what we try as well. Every year we are able to eat more from our garden.
If only the world held more people like you who care for the earth and not just for the almighty dollar! So many young teens could learn much more about the satisfying aims of life following you rather than watching endless TikTok videos that promote fake images of happiness....Your work is a gift!

I would so much love an ebook from you with recipes from farm to table!
I like this idea a lot!
What a year you had! And vicariously, what a year you gave those of us watching your excellent account of the relationships you are culturing with other life on this little piece of the planet! Thank you!
Watching your videos during my vet schools exams really calms me and makes my day! Thank you!
Good luck with your exams!
What a fantastic challenge you set yourself and how much you have learned. I really appreciated this video. Thanks Harriet

Aw thank you, that's so nice to think of you watching it with your kids! 💚
Call me a dreamer.. but I believe the world would be in a completely different place if everyone would do this for a year. Thanks for the motivation!

So proud of you both. Community is important to us all. Share and cultivate your community and your garden. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦
Yes, so true. Self sufficiency does not mean isolation.
Hola!! Yay 🤗🙌🏻🦋 You always make my day & inspire me to work on my garden!! Much love ❤️ and blessings from Kentucky 🇺🇸 Los admiro muchisimo!!

i love all the harvests, so genuine. yeah, it's true you end up with lots of leafy greens because there's always something leafy growing nearby.
Great video. I am glad you did it. Such a good lesson. Be part of a small community than to rely on government. Love it.
I'm completely amazed at your journey! I just found your Channel about six months ago. You are truly an inspiration, and I am so grateful that I get to watch alongside you and I have learned so much. That is very kind of you 💚 You definitely can accomplish your dream!
beautiful episode. you are So inspiring and your garden is exquisite. bless you sweet heart.xx
Holaaa me gustó el proceso/desafío...y qué buena reflexión final. Saludos.
Great-great job Harriet and Mauro!
Such a good harvest over the year. Keep on growing Harriet, love your vlogs.
Ha sido un año muy productivo, enhorabuena. Tiene mucho mérito, ser agricultor es difícil se aprende desde niños.
Please share on your next video the newspaper article!! You look very pretty 🤗🦋!! Felicidades!!! 🙌🏻🤗🦋
You have given me so many ideas for healthy meals. Maybe a cooking video when the kitchen is ready. What's your favorite kale?
I'm only growing cavolo negro so I guess I'd have to say that! I'd love to try more varieties this year!
Congratulations. You were very successful, in my opinion. You learned some very valuable lessons. This year will that much better. Love you. 🌈💖🧡💛💚💙💜💋
Ah, the bounty of the earchj! Excellent job and so glad to see you gardening. Carry on!
Ahh thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Hahah not at all, but I don't mind giving things a try!
Perdona que no escriba en ingles, soy demasiado malo, pero te doy las gracias porque lo estoy mejorando contigo!
Wow 👍 great stuff! Great waffle at the end. Important message 💗
Wow. So amazing. What an accomplishment. AND all the things you didnt show in this garden episode, all your other projects in and around the house and land. You both should be very, very proud. Please keep posting your videos. And I'm pulling for you to hit that magic 100k subscriber mark!

So impressive. You’ve every right to be proud of your achievements. An inspiration as always. I hope your 2023 is even better!
Well done Harriet, you are an inspiration.
Your recipes would be great. The food you make looks awesome!
Well done, and learnt some important lessons. There must get a book in here somewhere "eat the year " maybe.

Thank you for completing the video this was very interesting. I noticed there wasn't much tomatoes did you grow them this year?
I did but they were a bit rubbish. I made a few jars of ketchup which for some reason I didn't film!
You are such a bless and a treat. Thank you for sharing.
Hope you do one every year 😄 How amazing in a couple of years to be able to look back at what you produced and what has changed ☺️
It's great to look back at ALL you have done! great documentation and FUN~!
I loved to see all that you grew! So inspiring!
Thank you so much for sharing all of these!! This makes me so happy!
You're incredible!! Great work love 💖
I freeze many of my dryed produce to kill off as many bugs as possible. I also oven dry can all my nuts once shelled, they last for years! Thanks you for this great video!
That's what I'll definitely do next year!
You're living my dream life!Very beautiful video. Keep up the good work ✌️
Great compilation, Harriet! I love seeing your baskets of produce and then the actual meals you come up with. You are very creative with it all. I think your idea of growing what you like and what you can swap is a good idea and leave out trying to be perfect! BTW, have the goats come home yet from their romantic holiday?
Thank you! And nope, not yet!
A very impressive year round harvest. ❤
Your progress is amazing. From a fellow gardener/farmer I'm impressed.
I love your final comments, so important to not make it a competitive marathon of homesteading 😣 you certainly had enough of a cornucopia for your first year! I’m starting to prepare beds for spring, poc a poc xx
The summary at the end . . . . wise words :)
👋👋👋👋👋Well Downe
Precioso video el de ayer y, sobre todo, muy concienzudo. El estar un año haciendo el seguimiento requiere de mucha disciplina. Besos para tod@s❣️❣️❣️
