Extrusions are worth the cost but they are crazy expensive when you get to these larger profiles. We can all agree that 2x pine framing lumber is out of the question. I would have used 6/4 euro beech. Straight lined and thicknessed at the lumber yard, it would run about $250 for this project. It would be plenty strong and a lot prettier. It would take a good deal longer to assemble of course. But the difference becomes insignificant when you consider the overall time this project must have taken from planning to completion.

@@frankshannon3235 The one advantage of the aluminum is that it would be easy to break down and transport since it's super light. Something to consider. This stuff looks awesome but I'm not ready to drop a grand for a table. At that point you might as well make it out of steel so you have a welding table too!

What comes to mind is if you get a new miter saw thats a different height you don't have to rebuild the shelf for it, just loosen the fasteners and adjust as needed. Great Idea!

As soon as I saw that you were building a bench out of standard extrusion I knew it woukd be the world's most expensive bench.
A lot of people talking that don't know what they are talking about, aluminum is actually stiffer, by weight than steel.

Hey Cam, I really enjoy watching all your videos and have learned a lot over the last year. I did an epoxy river table last year following literally all your advice and skills. Literally all. I use the same epoxy, dry black walnut wood, the same techniques and finishes. Long story short, the girl i did this table for texted me yesterday and the epoxy had cracked across and is separating from the wood in a few spots. This pour was done back in July of last year, and cured for about 2 months before attaching a frame and legs to it and finishing it. the wood was sealed with shellac and roughed up and cleaned before the pour. the table was about 1.5" thick and i did it in 2 different pours as suggested. i monitored the temp for the first few days and had a fan on it and the mold was raised up to allow air flow under, just like i've seen you do in many videos. The temp never exceeded 105 degrees. Even so, the finished product came out great and it has been 6 months since the pour. Im confused why now it cracked and its having problems as opposed to back then. Also i am looking for advice on how to fix it and not have a repeat. I would love to know if you can point me in the right direction. Thank you and keep up the great work.

I've watched a couple of your videos where you struggle with flipping a large tabletop over.
Have you considered some sort of simple block and tackle system secured to the ceiling? If rigged properly, you could use it to gently and safely raise the slab to verticle, then lower it onto the other side.
You might also need some sort of stops to keep the slab from sliding while being raised or lowered.

I've been working with EA for almost 15 years and always wondsred why more people didn't take advantage of its rigid construction properties. CNC home builders swear by them. Great job. Men at Work. Your tips and product suggestions are very helpful. I would say with your line of videos they make for a complete discussion and presentation of a real working wood shop. I value this approach as should most who do any woodworking as it helps with what I mentioned, suggestions. You also have a huge advantage with space and tools which we know can be a huge part of the battle of producing quality product. I work in my garage with what many could call a mini shop and of course limited tools that come with that but I feel I put out some pretty good stuff considering my limitations.

Journey. I know that this is well over a year, but I do enjoy videos like this since it is slowly giving me ideas and suggestions for things I might want to my own shop one day. Plus, it is nice to see how it grows and you slowly build your shop to your desire. So I work in the aerospace industry, and we have a lot of those extruded aluminum products, and years ago they started having some of the manufacturing desks replaced with desks made of those, and I would like to know how things have turned out for you over the past year+ using it and it holding up. One of our biggest problems is that overtime, the hardware holding things together, such as those angle braces, slowly become undone causing the desks to wobble, and become unstable, and it really frustrates everyone. Hopefully you have not run into similar issues, but I love how your table came out, and looks sharp!

For anyone considering something like this. If you want to save a ton of money, you can tap the ends of aluminum extrusions, and drill a corresponding hole in the piece it attaches to, which creates a poor man's version of the fancy connectors in this video. Just a pan head socket screw in the tapped end, then run your hex driver through the through hole to tighten the screw during assembly. Does require a fair bit of planning and measuring to make sure things line up right, but it works just as well as these connectors. Alternatively, you can also use flat plate style brackets for those kinds of applications which are pretty cheap as well.
Those connectors are around 6 bucks each depending on distributor, and honestly I would expect like at least 30-40% the cost of this build is just in those connectors.

I don't know that I would put out $1000 for the frame, but the speed of setting up shop is important to you to get production going again. Many people have videos on making a table that is on wheels, then can drop into place and have storage underneath. First time i am seeing the inlay concept starting at 4:00. that is actually pretty hard to conceptualize and accomplish without those matched flush trim bits and the bushings. I and a lot of people will use a rabbiting bit to reduce the original template, then try to squeeze a drill bit into the final piece to create a hole for another round of flush trimming. usually there is some kind of flaw at that starting point with the drilled hole.
👍 good stuff, wish I would have seen this a couple months ago when I was making molds for fiberglass boat hatches and receivers..

Dire Straits. Cool shop table! Great that you can attach so many things to those aluminum channels. i enjoy your videos regardless of furniture making or shop builds. Always very interesting. Thank you!

In this moment, those aluminium tables are impressive and can hold a lot of weight I love it!
    Very versatile and handy.
    Everyone should have one.

I have spent so much time googling aluminum track and could never find out what words google calls it. I am saving this video so when I am ready for a track system I can go right to their web site.
Congrats on two companies sponsoring a video.
I like the bench but in a small shop under bench storage is king. I’m sure you will figure that out for another video. Great job

4:12 "we needed to make it a little more difficult" feels like mine and my father's motto when it comes to our projects. For example, I recently made a tabletop hook ring toss drinking game and instead of using a straight dowel which could easily be placed in the center of the two different sized boards, I decided to use a curvy branch and had to find a way to mark the points where the branch would be placed so that the two different sized boards would be properly aligned.

I use this same style framing in an Industrial environment at work but from the 8020 Brand, it's solid stuff but with anything that will be subject to vibration loctite is a must. It's amazing all the different things that can be built with this extruded aluminum.

Theres a really neat trick/extra function you can add to these 8020 extrusions that I have not seen on any MFT builds as yet. Its a very handy feature for any woodworking shop.

I have a really hard time choosing a single favorite band, but if a knife was at my throat I might say LeBrock, or The Midnight, or Detritus, or Jessie Frye. Mostly New RetroWave stuff.

Tool! Wish I had seen this two weeks ago; I just built my new work table in my new to me garage. Although functional, it’s not nearly as modular. I really like the t nuts, it reminds of setting up parts on the bed milling machine.
