- I really wanted to hear Fade To Black with an orchestra but somehow they didn't play it on S&M1 or S&M2. So I thought the next best thing was to create my own version. I hope you like it! I tried to make a mix between the S&M1 und S&M2 arrangement style! Leave a comment and subscribe if you're new.

This is The Thing That Should Have Been. I cannot get my head around the fact that for the second time, s&m left Fade to Black in the dark. I was convinced that it would have been finally in there for the otherwise great sequel- so Thank You for doing this.

@@BenZimmermannMusic Your welcome! It really was a realistic and fantastic job here. The Orchestral Movements really enhance the song and elevate it to a new experience. That is why I prefer a lot of s&ms versions of the songs- the Orchestra compliments and enriches the songs. The orchestra dont just slap on random passages over the music- its a totally new side and emotion to the songs. Fade to Black absolutely should have been there. So again-many thanks for this. Another song Ive always wanted was Orion! Wow, just the thought of what the Orchestra could have done with that.
@Jayce Ledet I saw that too and honestly, consindering the complexity of the original arrangements, I cant get my head around this. I didn't have any problems in arranging the orchestra
@@BenZimmermannMusic I read something about that aswell. And I just dont understand how Fade To Black was deemed difficult to do. When you consider the faster,heavier songs that the Orchestra easily wove waves of wonder into-especially "Battery", its so strange that they couldnt construct a concerto for Fade to Black! The first half of the song was Tailor Made for an epic orchestrated makeover. And,with "One" and "The day that never Comes", we hear that the orcheastra was more than able to transition to a busy bombastic pace when the songs rocked up in their second halves- but without overcrowding the band either. It could have been done- and this version here is fantastic proof of that.

This is incomprehensibly good, god damn. We can only dream for S&M³, huh...

Orion is one off cliffs best performance.. they went With anesthisia(pulling teeth) good choise in my opinion.

@@BenZimmermannMusic I'll upload the topic video. I did it for my S&M2 versions of Creeping Death and Sad But True.
I actually used to have an "alternate reality" Metallica channel, which began by me uploading topic videos of songs that were made in an alternate reality style. It was taken down due to an impersonation complaint (it looked that real), so I took the best ones and uploaded them to my own channel. They are in a playlist called "Metallicalternate Respawned". You should check it out. It also has a studio version of The New Song, among other things.

So many people hated S&M. They said they sold out. To me, it was a genius move and I couldn't wait to buy it. Yes, I know that this tune isn't on it. Ben, it's a really good arrangement.

@@BenZimmermannMusic Awesome! I wish I had discovered this earlier so I could use it in my fantasy festival where Metallica played with the San Francisco Symphony yet again. I had to use a non-symphony version of Fade To Black.

it sucks that they didn't actually make this song with the orchestra. to be perfectly honest i didn't even think about it at first. but hearing this, hats off to you ben! it really does sound like it's out of S&M, and it's one of those songs that sounds so good with the orchestra as well.

@@BenZimmermannMusic i agree. I don't know all of metallica's songs but a bunch of the ones I know, i see the S&M versions as being better in ways. One, bleeding me, the memory remains, nothing else matters, wherever i may roam. All songs i constantly listen to the S&M version over the studio version.
The part going to the solo gave me goosebumps, it made me cry. What a masterpiece!!!

The performance is from the Brussels in 2019 if I’m not wrong which is probably the best performance of the song in 30 years

best live Fade to Black is hands down Cunning Stunts, HANDS DOWN. But this one I actually thought it was really from S&M...
So disappointed they didn't do this on S and M 2. They missed out so many that were just desperate for a backing symphony. Glad we have the technology today where people like yourself can make these a reality! Great job!

I am just glad that Robert Trujillo get the chance to be a member of Metallica the greatest heavy metal band in history. Robert is now the longest bass player for this incredible band. I've seen him playing bass for Black Label Society and Suicidal but he deserves to be a Metallica! 🤟🤟🤟🤟🎸🎸🎸🥁

It was an 8/10. I’m so happy somebody finally did this, but:
- Michael Kamen would not let his orchestra play what the band is playing for 5+ minutes straight
- Cliff would’ve added a tonne of unique phrasing for the orchestra’s part.
...thus the removal of 2 points. But overall, a great first step in the right direction.
Yeah this was my first attempt. I am mot really that happy with the orchestration either anymore haha :D
You should check out my Orion Video. I did some more variety with the orchestra and I think a got a bit closer to a Michael Kamen arrangement there!

I remember finding a version of fade to black with symphony back in the day on SoundCloud, tried finding it years later but it seemed to be lost to time.
I've been dying to hear S&M Fade ever since then. This not only fills that void, but greatly improves upon it! New sub here and continuing on my binge watch on the channel.
