This song and their music in general has been there for me through so many different times of my life. This might be the best version of Nothing Else Matters in my opinion.
Listening to this great version of the song makes me realize how incredible is the 99 version. This sounds like the live version of the song on top of which a dose of Symphony has been blended, while 99 version sounds like a reinvented version, especially the intro and guitar solo. I like both version but I can today appreciate even more the first S&M effort.
Metallica truly is the all-time band for me. The heart that they put into what they do - their openness, beauty and awesomeness is amazing. Of course the heavyness, but the heart underneath that all is what I love so much. This song says it all.

This might be the best version of the song I've heard, and I've heard many. The sound mixing is on point, James hitting the higher parts in the chorus, the extra guitar part at the end, and of course the symphony... Everything about this performance is just "right".
Just wait until you hear The Day That Never Comes, probably my favorite song from the first night, Sept 6th, Lars finishes the song strong, it was epic.
It's great to know that James is getting well and that the band is looking forward again they mean so much to our worldwide family and we all appreciate everything they've done since lock down through AWMH and Metallica mondays or tuesdays as we call it in the uk and as for S&M2 I loved watching this show at the cinema and I can't wait for the 4K DVD at home with the home sound system cranked up to a spinal tap 11
@Kanashimi I mean, they don't have to like him/metallica. It's completely subjective, but to lack the will to acknowledge skill and talent, i don't know
When you have greatness, you will have ego. Most of the time Lars is correct in his assessments, it's just that most players do not want to face judgement the way he has. They use to tell Metallica they were a total shit band when they started, and their(Lar's) ego was one of the only thing that kept them fighting the world. With the good comes the bad, but I consider Lars justified in his opinions, and until I pull down a couple of world tours and $100 million dollars, I don't think I have the right to argue against him.
people talk about how “mainstream” Nothing Else Matters is, claiming that it diminishes its quality, so they can’t bring themselves to appreciate how well put together the song is. I don’t care how well known it is, I’ll always love it 🖤
I don't think its specifically this song, it's the entire albums direction, where they said "And Justice for all was too complicated, we needed to simplify things and make them for the radio". They wanted some huge record sales and Dad Rock manipulated it in a way so it would fit a lot of radio stations, ultimately making Metallica a household name in the mainstream, becoming the very thing they mocked years before. To be honest, to me, it's a beautiful song and will always have a special place in my heart, even if it's not conveying emotions as much to me as other ballads that came before it.
"Nothing Else Matters" is one of my favorite songs of all time, it's a beautiful song. This video was amazing! James' growl gives me goosebumps, he is such a talented singer. Thank you so much for posting this, I really enjoyed it.
For me, I would be asleep, since the concert would be live at 6:30 AM for me. Interestingly enough, I’m in the same time zone as San Francisco right now, so the guys probably have to walk up like 3-4 AM to prepare, or just not sleep. This could also just be a “live” video that was already prerecorded but would have it’s own premiere to give the appearance of a live show, but I highly doubt that being the case. Various other factors also matter.
So much respect for James after all he has been through with his parents, Cliff and the dark times in his life that followed for getting himself back on track and becoming the man he is. What a fighter.
The restraint from the composer here is such a tribute...just filling out a swell here and there, adding a background layer...he knows to stay out of they way of a beautiful and beloved melody. And then he sits at their feet. It's a moment.
This is one of those song that you think about: is unique because the chords are for it only...not an elaboration of someone styles but completely invented...for this reason is a masterpiece!
Do we all realize and appreciate how much of their live shit Metallica put online with great audio and video? I say thank you..

This version brings me to tears. That ending when the croud sings Nothing Else Matters... Beautiful!!!
Cliff would have loved doing something like this as he was classical trained.
Yep rest in peace
James singing the chorus an octave higher, totally transforms the whole song for me.
but it was corrected with autotune
@@mikoaj5891 Was there. And I can assure you, there was no need for autotune. Nothing needed correcting. He was spot on.
@@kathrync8632 1 s&m from 1999 was corrected with autotune
2 listen 2:45
@@kathrync8632 this is autotuned I'm afraid
Its James Hetfield for gods sake. Are we really questioning this fellows ability to sing?
Their music, their legacy is our destiny, and their music will never die
You can tell just how much James enjoyed playing that solo. And letting the crowd finish the vocals.
The 99 version starts off like the elevator version before drums kick in.
Metallica truly is the all-time band for me. The heart that they put into what they do - their openness, beauty and awesomeness is amazing. Of course the heavyness, but the heart underneath that all is what I love so much. This song says it all.
Can we just look at how james practically nailed that solo? That was beautiful
@Ovais Malik Not a surprise. Just in awe.
He played it just as well at 56 as he did at 28
When the entire audience sing "and nothing else matters" .........it takes you beyond to a strange place where you feel completely integrated with the music and the song...amazing
Oh man James is older than my dad it’s so crazy to see that their music will live on forever !!!
In silent remembering for my dad. He loved this song. RIP
a fan from the PHILIPPINES, NO ONE CAN IMMITATE OR BEAT THIS BAND, I LOVE YOU METALLICA
No nothing else Matters. This Masterpiece changed my life, thank you Metallica.
Tears came to my eyes ,33 years listening to Metallica ,always number one ,yesterday, now and forever, thank you for all you give to your fans ...in this case to me every day ❤❤❤❤
The 99 version of this song with orchestra was my first contact with Metallica's music. Seeing it 20 years later brings tears to my eyes
This might be the best version of the song I've heard, and I've heard many.
The sound mixing is on point, James hitting the higher parts in the chorus, the extra guitar part at the end, and of course the symphony... Everything about this performance is just "right".
The most epic rock ballad of all time...
I would have loved to hear To Live Is To Die with the Symphony.
I think anesthesia Pulling teeth of this version is very nice maybe waiting 10 Years to do it
Jeurk a mi casa te amo mí me dijo nada pero se me hace muy i de mi u en el trabajo de las dos
Holy shit yes
Maybe on S&M³
orion would have been awesome though
Fade to Black and The Unforgiven would have sounded cool with the orchestra.
And Sanitarium
Always wanted the unforgiven with the orchestra, would of of been epic and hell yeah fade to black
They did play The Unforgiven 😊
@@jesperda I think he meant The Unforgiven 1
Just wait until you hear The Day That Never Comes, probably my favorite song from the first night, Sept 6th, Lars finishes the song strong, it was epic.
Just discovered Metallica aged 56. Why have I never listened to them before !?
Never too late to start...
@@ivanmifsud6972 there's no such as too late to start for Metallica
YEAH why ? and where have you been i'm 52 and man my regret is that i havent seen them live
Welcome to the family 😘
Think that I've been listening to them since they were 20
seeing the dominance of james with the interpretation of his songs is impressive
That's it, man. There are no words to describe this feeling, only Metallica fans will know. Metallica 'til death!!
I saw this graffiti somewhere :
Birth....school. .. Metallica. .. death
Metallica 'til Deth.
True
And over the death... from birth to eternity, always metallicaaaa
..till death and beyond ♡
It's great to know that James is getting well and that the band is looking forward again they mean so much to our worldwide family and we all appreciate everything they've done since lock down through AWMH and Metallica mondays or tuesdays as we call it in the uk and as for S&M2 I loved watching this show at the cinema and I can't wait for the 4K DVD at home with the home sound system cranked up to a spinal tap 11
haha 11, kinda rare meme
No surprise how well a symphony fits with their music as there has always been so much classical influence in everything they have done.
I saw it in the theatre last year, there's a godly version of The Outlaw Torn. Absolutely incredible.
Sometimes my friends say that James just screams, but imho opinion he's one of the best singers out there. I know it's subjective but still
@Kanashimi i know, but a lot of people are close minded. You can try to explain, but why even try right? :)
@Kanashimi I mean, they don't have to like him/metallica. It's completely subjective, but to lack the will to acknowledge skill and talent, i don't know
Tell those idiots to listen to Astronomy or Tuesday's Gone and see how amazing his voice is
Lol if they want to talk about a screamer introduce them to Chester Bennington
I don't care about all the Larsisms Lars put into this song, this version is just beautiful.
“Larsisms”!!! Using this! And this has become the definitive version of the song
RATATATA
3:24 What a cool shot. Nothing Else Matters is genuinely one of the greatest songs ever performed.
people talk about how “mainstream” Nothing Else Matters is, claiming that it diminishes its quality, so they can’t bring themselves to appreciate how well put together the song is. I don’t care how well known it is, I’ll always love it 🖤
no metal is mainstream imho
I don't think its specifically this song, it's the entire albums direction, where they said "And Justice for all was too complicated, we needed to simplify things and make them for the radio". They wanted some huge record sales and Dad Rock manipulated it in a way so it would fit a lot of radio stations, ultimately making Metallica a household name in the mainstream, becoming the very thing they mocked years before.
To be honest, to me, it's a beautiful song and will always have a special place in my heart, even if it's not conveying emotions as much to me as other ballads that came before it.
Jaymz' ending solo ALWAYS gives me chills
5:00 James touches my heart
one word
beautiful
"Nothing Else Matters" is one of my favorite songs of all time, it's a beautiful song. This video was amazing! James' growl gives me goosebumps, he is such a talented singer. Thank you so much for posting this, I really enjoyed it.
This song is even more amazing with an orchestral accompaniment. Suits it sooooo well.
4:09 James sounds sooooo good here
Love the sound with San Francisco symphony
"So Close, No Matter How Far..."
I'm In Tears...❤️
WHY DO I HAVE TO BE AT WORK WHEN THIS AIRS
Same
SAME
For me, I would be asleep, since the concert would be live at 6:30 AM for me.
@@dalek-trooper6557 this was recorded on two days in September of 2019 so....
JustAnotherRUclipsr it’s a release from S&M2 held last year. Not live
James looks so calm and peacfully here it make's me feel strange
The best music ever heard & will always love until I die ❤❤
Cliff would be so proud
So much respect for James after all he has been through with his parents, Cliff and the dark times in his life that followed for getting himself back on track and becoming the man he is. What a fighter.
If this isn't played at my funeral I'm not going
Best comment here.
It's a romantic song bruh 😂
killing me softly with your song lol
Love this!
Hits blunt
It just makes me happy to watch the band follow the conductor. Brings back a lot of choir memories.
Cant describe how lucky I was to be able to witness this live

i guess his muscle memory is so strong that he can't play guitar with his feet close to each other anymore :Dd
You realise the mic is not at the right height for him, right?
No, I'm not crying, what is cry? I love you Metallica.
What an amazing song wow
The restraint from the composer here is such a tribute...just filling out a swell here and there, adding a background layer...he knows to stay out of they way of a beautiful and beloved melody. And then he sits at their feet. It's a moment.
I can watch them all day long..this is amazing what they did with the orchestra
I love the sound of Metallica with San Francisco symphony
This is one of those song that you think about: is unique because the chords are for it only...not an elaboration of someone styles but completely invented...for this reason is a masterpiece!
Absolutely right
