It would be cool if you guys made a little Spotify playlist with the songs that the artist recommends about the music they bought
This guy just blew open the door on so many amazing musical discoveries for me just now
Dude same lmao
What a cool dude. Awesome picks and insightful commentary.
I remember the excitement from that first Dr. Dog album, man. Sweet tunes.
I strongly believe that 10-20 years from now, Dr.Dog’s music will be visited quite often by our children’s children.
I personally feel our children are too young to be having children. I mean eventually you just get into this endless Russian doll situation... where does it end?
I mean hey it recently blew up on tik tok it's pretty popular
Michael Nau makes awesome music under his name and Cotton Jones. Not to be slept on
This made my day. I completely forgot about Reigning Sound. Scott is such an amazing human!
I cannot thank you enough for the Michael Nau recommendation. I have been listening to him for this past week straight since this video's gone up and my life has improved in every regard. Less than Positive is one of the best songs I've ever heard, that Nelsonville festival footage they had up is one of the most beautiful live performances I've ever seen, and Michael Nau is one of the greatest hidden gems I've ever been turned onto. Thank you again.
If you like his solo stuff you should really check out his Cotton Jones lps. Less than Positive was a Cotton Jones song originally. The "Sit Beside Your Vegetables" EP and "Rio Ranger" EPs are incredible.
I’d recommend checking out the album Foggy by Quiet Life also. Similar feel, and produced by Scott McMicken
@@jamesdewald339 thanks so much for this as well -- extremely spot on!! Light and pretty but solid and substantial! Gonna be listening to this one for a while : - )
He’s so underrated! Awesome artist
Can confirm: William Onyeabor is a great pick. He made some funky synth tunes that gets me dancing whenever it pops up on the playlist. Screamin’ Jay of course, great. Definitely plan on to check out the rest of Scottie’s pick. Great musician with great taste . Thanks Amoeba!
Would love to sit And have a coffee with this dude and talk about music all day.
So rad to learn about some of Scott’s favorite jams!! Dr dog is everything to me, they’d be in my bag 100%! Could watch this for hours! Gonna check all these bands out!
Such an underrated band. I first caught 'em live opening for MMJ during the mid-ought years, IIRC.. Been following them ever since. Really kind group of fellas.
Damn! This has been one of the best WiMBs i've seen so far!
Most of his picks are new to me but I like the sound of them from snippets so I'll need to research them now, and he articulated the choices brilliantly. Very cool Sonics badge as well on his shirt
great picks here, shines a light on lots that I'm unfamiliar with. Michael Nau is an exception - he used to play in a band called Page France that I think more people should know about, particularly if they enjoy his solo material or unique and strange folksy pop of any other sort.
THIS is what I've been waiting for. Dr. Dog has been one of my favorite bands of the more recent years, and I went to see them this year with Manchester Orchestra and (Sandy) Alex G. It was an amazing show, and I love this band.
Green Light Music Channel wow that sounds like a great show!! Stoked for you!
This guy puts it together REAL well. Love it!
Yeah man, Some Twist by Michael Nau is soooo good!!
Great musician/songwriter and excellent taste in music. If the name Dr. Dog is foreign to you're ears... change that you *will* *not* regret it.
Nor could I! Dr dog is simply the best!
I love these videos and I love Scott
William Onyebor gets major cred in this series, he's got to be one of the most picked artists that most people have never heard of
Brilliantly eclectic selections
I didn't know Scott talked about Michael Nau in this interview. Both of their music has such similar vibes and are huge inspirations to me. Makes sense Scott would like it. Haha
found out about Dr. Dog from Pat Finnerty, so great there's a WIMB with Scott!
Love Dr. Dog!
If he write a book, then i'll definitely read it.
T B that would be incredible
Wooow such an amazing taste and great deep and detailed comments about every artist. I think I will have a listen 😉
What an amazing list. I can’t wait to check out all of his suggestions!
I love this show. What a cool dude/picks . Can't wait to go check out these bands/songwriters he recommends
You have a great taste in music
Michael Nau is amazing. "Good thing" is easily one of my fav songs of all time.
Maybe the best I've seen.
Great stuff, I'll definitely be checking a few of these out

Love his music
some great picks here!
Just found out about this channel and im so happy I did! Shoutout from your neighbors at the Comedy Store!
Horance Andy was a favorite guest vocalist for Massive Attack, especially the first three of their records.
So pumped to dive head first into Micheal Nau
Screamin Jay!!! Yes sir!!
annnnnnnd now The Ever-Expanding's sound makes so much sense!
Nice Sonics pin Scottman. You are a scholar.
he shouts out to "rockers"-one of my favorite movies ever. and that horace andy record is killer, i'm glad they played a little clip of "rome" from it. Good picks man!!
Hi, this is Scott McChicken, from the band Dr. Dog....

Sublime music taste
Quintron really should be world famous.
Michael nau! Yes man!
Play 9 with Quintron is an epic record.
I fucking love that William onyeabor album
OMG Quintron & Pussycat YEEEEESSSSS
he looks like the lovechild of martin freeman and macaulay culkin
He reminds me of Dustin Hoffman in "Rain Man."
I miss the Easy Beat Dr Dog
I got that Body and Soul record, some wild shit
What's up Scott McChicken?
Let Me Be Your Chauffeur by Jack Oblivian
2 spooki 4 me
Maybe we could get Stan Ridgway from Wall of Voodoo on this show.
Dr. Dog aka Sam Rockwell the High-and-Happies
He's very articulate
i have always had the doubt... yhe free shipping is worlwide :O?
For a second I thought he was Freddie Highmore.
what are the michael nau songs being played?? I cant find them :(
I think one of them is "how you're so for real"
"I root" is the other
Gotta hit up post Oblivans, Compulsive Gamblers are always overlooked
I was about to change it until onyabar
the name escapes me right now but theres a dr dog song i really like. brain fart.
Keep a friend
Hang On
Quintron and Pussycat remind me of Mr. & Mrs. Jelly Donut.
He was good in The Green Mile and Iron Man 2
Fresh band. They had some really cool vibes back in the day
Back in the day... What's the last album you've heard? These guys never miss.
Turd Cutter who do you work for? Get a life
'back in the day' HAHAHAHA how are you grandpa?
@@TheScripflipNetwork hmm... couldn't answer my question must not be that familiar. Sorry, I was expecting someone educated on the topic.
I got into them in the Myspace era. Now go fly a kite
Brian May next? I need a snooze.
Why is every RUclips comment just everyone blowing the guests?
Where can i find the full album of that cassette that they show around 0:35 - 0:36? A little Googling has shown me that its made by Scott McKicken and Linda Rapka, that it was released around February of 2018 and that it was released on a label called 'Press On RECORDS'. However i cant find a website or bandcamp account that lets me listen to the music! Does anyone know more about this tape? Please help me (and others) dig into the music!
Nice picks btw ;^)
Misschien Discogs?
The tape in question is called "Optical Illusions" by GARY AND LINDA. There is NO VINYL pressing of this release and there will NEVER be!
Amoeba Records in Hollywood had them available a few months ago.....
@@1santos1 was is an Amoeba only release?
@@versnellingspookie No. Scott told me he dropped off some copies at the store in Hollywood back in June.
Not familiar with Dr Dog. I will check him out based on his picks. Great stuff.
They're an incredible band. I would recommend the songs "We All Belong," "Shadow People," "The Breeze," "Go Out Fighting," "Abandoned Mansion," "Where'd All the Time Go," and "Nellie" to start. I've always described them as a mixture of Beatlesesque songwriting, Beach Boys style harmonies, and the folky feeling of Simon and Garfunkel.
I recommend "From" :)
Everything in their extensive catalog is brilliant. If you start with their very low-fi "toothbrush" and then "Easybeat", followed by "We All Belong" and "Fate", you'd see an arc of musical growth and maturity that rivals the Beatles in my book, and I was there for the originals! Throw The Band in for influences, and the Kinks, plus some Beach Boys harmonies, and that gets it. Scott is just a musical savant, and the whole band is full of geniuses, musically and personally, explains their amazing music. Check out Scott's side project "Gary and Linda", available only on cassette, if you can find it!
Fan for many years, I always suggest "Ain't It Strange" as a starting point song, captures every element of their genius. They're one of those bands that deserve their albums to be heard in their entirety in one sitting, then you'll really get a feel for the range and depth of their music.
tenn4 couldn’t agree more!!
Anyone know the song at 3:23? Love it but can’t find it anywhere
Mackey Believe In God. It’s in the album shown.
Mark V. Thanks man
Who?
Johnny Rotten?
Dr. Dog songs that you should all really check out; The Rabbit, the Bat, & the Reindeer and Army of Ancients. There are 100 amazing songs but if you don't like either of those two, you're wrong :)
This is Sh!t. I’ve never heard none of these songs in my local supermarket or mall. What is this?!?🤣🤣🤣SIKE! Just kitting the guy is eccentric and knows music👍🏽
0:45, or vice versa!
Dammit. Too much stuff I need to check out, but no money in the bank. Damn my moral fibre! (i.e. only listen to music if I can buy vinyl/CD or get to gigs....)
That's silly. Stream the songs and buy when you can.
not as good as Jerry Cantrell :))
Elvis was better
Will Brendon Urie and Pete Wentz do this
Sure hope not.
The guy seems super uptight
I get the eclectic hipster vibe, here. The person who is able to find the hippest gems from a massive cross section of cultural expressions. Watch out for bullshit, or just accept his idiosyncrating and highly personal interpretation of this eclectic bag as gospel.
For some this might be a relief from the sameness of mainstream popmusic, but again it might just be a guide for you to harp on wisely about some strange music you discovered. The perverse interst in Sceaming Jay Hawkins is as old as my student days.
Another one (not mentioned here) is the Ethiopean «jazz» found on the «Broken Flowers», whose oregan and sax groove set the mood for a story going nowhere (just like the chord progression). The sound track (or the pick) has been reused by other filmmakere since.
The personal and «strange» seems to follow a predictable pattern of just beeing a tired and strained individualistic reaction to mass produced music, and in a symbiotic reactionaty way. It’s indivisualism in the same way that produced need for upscale designer clothes. But it is also consumption that tries to hide its status as consumtion.
A more radical reaction would perhaps be to give up (the strained anti-pop, which by the way reeks of art musics elite pretention) and just join a local choir who sings «folk music» loosely deriivative of popular trends that has gone by, therby neither being pop or anti-pop, but providing the freedom from both opposition or conformity.
What is really wacky is this strained attempt at «individualitet», like we’re not individual enough already. It’s a huge driver of consumer culture and (as a mass movement in modernity) it has the paradoxial result of everybody getting that damned «personal tattoo».
You are a schizophrenic
3:35 hell ya, I saw him open for you guys... and hey... I was just as excited or more to see Michael Nau than you guys... haha. You guys absolutely rocked though (jesus, how do you remember all those songs... I swear to god you guys played 40 songs or more)
1:50 I don't know how people do projects like this that probably take up most of your time and don't make you a lot of money unless you're on meth. All the building and fabrication, the setup for a show seems like a 3 hour thing... that's a fucking labor of love... and meth helps. (sorry if you guys aren't on meth... ME personally would need some sort of amphetamine to do something like that I'm I'm totally jealous of you. Love shit like that).
Horace Andy I knew about from Massive Attack, otherwise a slew of cool stuff I've never heard. That's what makes these vids so damned useful.
