A wild game safari, a seriously serious gin experience and a close call in the Wilderness. There is never a dull moment with our South African friends.
You can’t come to South Africa and not go on a Safari…said every person who’s ever been to South Africa.
Our adventures with Kate and Rufus continue and the itinerary doesn’t get much more South African in the Western Cape than this:
A Safari in an attempt to see the big five.
Proper Gin & Tonics in one of the world's most diverse regions of botanicals.
A nice long trek through the wilderness, in Wilderness (complete with an unexpected adventure at the waterfall).
Grab your G&T (virgin or full strength) and click that play button.
WHO ARE WE?
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living off the grid and exploring the world for almost a decade.
Our first six years of travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild adventures, and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
Life is an adventure. Extraordinary moments out there for anyone willing, and wanting, to go after it. Ya know life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
And this is why we publish our lives on the world wide web. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.
Shared with LOVE 💕

Kate really is that special kind of friend that keep you laughing. She has a beautiful energy about her and is very entertaining. I do hope your paths cross again.
Thanks So Much For Watching!!!
FYI: Please know this was filmed before COVID-19 became a pandemic and at the time there were no cases in South Africa. We are not traveling now and are in isolation.
Rhinos: The issue is real-time photo and video. The rhinos are long gone from that spot now. We did double-check about posting this vid and they said, "yes and thank you for asking".
Gone with the Wynns sorry. I hope they let y’all out of jail and back on the boat soon.
I know. It's like we're all grounded.
I know it must be hard to be in isolation but please stay safe.
My 14 year old son has had no problems with isolation. We have even threatened to punish him by making him stay out of his room : )
Wouldn't you like to be a llama 2! LOL
I really miss seeing Kate on the regular videos but the big thumbs up goes to the tour guide for jumping in to save the keys.
The guy that jumped in to get the key should get free drinks for the rest of the trip.
Absolutely. Kind of, *Below* and Beyond! 😉
ya know, we didn't even buy him a coffee when we stopped for a little post hike pick me up...dang! I guess we'll have to go back to properly thank him :)
@@gonewiththewynns You could do that while getting your custom bottle of gin
@@gonewiththewynns We will be waiting for that coffee - hehe :P
Excellent as usual!!! Kate, you rock!
Kate is a hoot. The video shows that she and her country are a beautiful pair. Once again you have knocked it outside the park. Thanks for sharing.
Love the adventure, but even more, we love how real you guys are. Just out having fun with friends. Peer pressuring Kate into being a Llama twerk star is just what friends are for. 😂🦙
Right?!? There was another little bit where we were convincing her the camera wasn't recording...but I took it out so the sequence wouldn't last too long 🤗
So lovely to see the curious minno in her natural habitat, that's one special lady! Cheers Warren.
Contrary to popular belief, curious minion isn’t Kate. It’s is a fellow boater and long time friend though. ;). Kate (and Rufus) are professional yacht crew...so they both have full time jobs.
If I was more video savvy, I'd put Kate's lama dance on a loop! Hahaha!!!
That'd be Awesome!!
Great video kids! Safe travels
Kate's Llama dance? Utterly adorable!!😂
Fair winds and following seas to Kate and Rufus for being such gracious hosts!
I think we all love Kate. Her accent is stronger is home.
Waaaaaaayyyyyyyy stronger 😆
Beautiful place South Africa wow, and Kate love your epic moves!
Wonderful vid! Love to see you enjoying your time in SA with Kate. Nice footage and bright emotions - thank you so much, guys!
KATE WINS!!! She deserved MORE than another drink. Give that girl a prize LMAO! Well done Kate!
Great video. It was lovely seeing part of my beautiful country through your eyes. Can't wait for you guys to be sailing again 😊
Another great upload(even though it's not sailing related). I've been following you guys from start and the quality of has only gone up (...with the Wynns:)
With this channel it's ok to go a bit off topic;)
Absolutely they are allowed:)
Just a bit of sailing would have been nice, but hey enjoyable anyway:)
Thanks, Kate! Dance made the video complete! epic dive on the keys, btw. Also, that is WHY I always put a Caribeener attached to my bag or belt loop. Just leave the Caribeener and you will always remember to attach it.
Hope that you are all well and safe, needed a brilliant smile and you delivered. Thanks
Wonderful video! I am so grateful that you are posting whilst we are all in isolation. I hope you are safe.
Kate is so much more South African when she's in her element.
Right! And the pride for her country is legit 😂
@@gonewiththewynns Was there any talk about the threats to white people in South Africa?
@@gonewiththewynns I think everyone does. Hey, some even so much as to fly flags out the front of their houses :-) Another top job with the videography! Love your work. Hope to see ya's back on the water real soon!
•
Hey Wynns. How did SA compare to some of the other places you've been. I get it may be a bit different as there was no sailing. Nikki, you didn't seem to impressed???
We love Kate, she is great, Gin and cake, keys in lake, in the jungle with no snakes, animals gape, and sailboat waits. Safe travel Wynns safe travel.
What a wonderful poem...is it a haiku? haha (joking)
Welcome to South Africa. I am glad you guys enjoyed your short visit. Next time try do the Kruger Park, its an absolute must. It's very different to the Cape and an area full of wonders to see. Let me know if you ever want a list of things to do in the area, I'm a local. Will also be happy to show you around too (Off camera).
Thank you so much for the mini mental vacation. Love the videos. Hopefully you will soon be back on curiosity sailing again!
Glad you guys had fun in South Africa. Stay safe and healthy! I hope you can get back to your boat soon.
Kate is amazing! Her accent is so strong, at home. Epic video Wynns!!
So glad you were able to convince Kate to demonstrate the dance. Hilarious! South Africa looks beautiful and to be a fairly safe and secure tourist destination. We’ll have to check it out once the world returns to normal. Thanks for another great video.
Sadly, the press concentrate on only the negative in SA, so people are often to afraid to come to our beautiful country,
Sad you guys didn't get to Addo Elephant park near PE, but at least you got to experience the wildlife ❤️
Lovely scenery, glad you found the keys!!! Xx😘
So good to see you in SA and I am sure it was good to catch up with Kate & Rufus. You are all very natural in front of the camera. You visited many of the places I have been to along the garden Route and brought back so many good memories, thank you, stay safe and stay well.
“The twerking llama” sounds like a great name for a bar!!
Its great to see you guys back out on the trails of life enjoying the time and friends in south Africa. Thank you for sharing your fun Awesome as always
Hi , great to watch. I worked as charter skipper in the caribbean for 6 years and still do yacht deliveries. I live and work in Wilderness in the Garden Route and really enjoyed the local footage. Really enjoy your vlogs , delivered the exact same yacht as Curoisity from Cape Town to the Maldives a while ago. Keep up the good work !
Well with how much somebody loves ice cream if you get back that way I would double check the freezer to make sure you have enough supplies before setting sail LOL. Love the video stay safe. And Kate don't change your loved just for being you.
I soooo much appreciate the incredible editing! Another fabulous episode, thank you! Robb.
South African here now living in the USA. Born and raised just outside Cape Town. There is a world of difference between a privately run reserve and something like the Kruger National Park (a place that I visit all the time) . The reserves are aimed at people wanting to see a lot of animals in a short period of time, which is great, almost like in a zoo. The animal population are very protected i.e the owner will feed the animals if they are hungry ,no predators etc. The Kruger Nat Park is a massive area owned by the government and it is a dog eat dog, survival of the fittest deal. It is much closer to the real deal, but the downside is that you can go a day or two without seeing any animals that you really want to see like the Big Five.
I've always felt that the #Wynns are the life of the party, but Kate is like when someone spikes the punch!
Being together is a #Wynning combination! Love you guys!!
😆😆💙💙
Thanks for sharing this video, it made my day a little bite better. I lost my best friend today, my dog of 15 years. We spend a lot of time sitting together watching you guys Sailing around the world. So a big thank you and many new adventure, be safe and keep enjoying life to its fullest.
Oh no! We're so sorry to hear that. Glad we could lift your spirits a little bit. 💔💔
Awesome South Africa adventure guys, still can't wait till you are back aboard Curiosity. Stay safe. Fair Wynns and Following Seas Curiosity!!
As always a wonderful episode !!
Luckily you guys found the key/fob , that would have been expensive.
I lost a key/fob once , the replacement cost $370 !!! , yeah $280 for the blank and $90 for labor !!!
$90 for labor all the guy did was put the blank in the machine and press GO.
Getting caught up on all your past episodes , watched all 14 of the Kate episodes
Clearly Nikki you are the brains and genius of this adventure. Your narration is
so informative and enjoyable. I've watched episodes over and over , e.g. the one
in Polynesia with Henry and the hand pollination , I just love that episode.
As for Jason , uh . . .well at least he is smarter than he looks :)
What an adventure! Definitely on the bucket list. The gin experience looks amazing!
Thanks guys . I would love to go to Africa . I have to say one of your better videos . I'm glad you are back on the water . Don from Canada
Wow the friends you've met travelling the world is fantastic. And again I love your aerial drone videos. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, beautiful South Africa, wild animals ,alcohol, hiking, waterfalls, a treasure hunt and Kate doing a sexy Llama dance. It just doesn’t get any better. You need to go wild more often. Great video!
Nice edit guys. You need to come back to enjoy the Kruger and the whole lowveld region which is lovely. Rgards from a fellow leopard owner hoping to finish the upgrades on my boat during this lockdown so I can get out sailing...
If you ever go to Kruger - try to book one of the hiking tours or morning hikes. You walk in the park with guides and it is the most incredible experience. We did one where you sleep in the bush as well so you would need hiking equipment but there are tours where you sleep in huts and they cook for you too. We have done it driving around ourselves many times too and it is always amazing regardless of where you stay and how you do it.
It’s on our bucket list for sure!!! Land Rover with tent on roof 👍🏻
Did South Africa last year including: Cape-town, Stellenbosch, Langa Township, The Blue Train, Jo-Burg, Kruger and the Drachenburg Mountains, what a beautiful country and what beautiful people👍🥰
THE BLUE TRAIN!!!!!!!! Dang. It was on our must-do list and the day we were planning to go our friends with the car had to bail. We must go back for that, it sounds like a blast.
Adventures with the Wynn’s, awesome! Getting to see Kate twerking, priceless!
Agreed! She'll hate us forever for publishing that 😂
@@gonewiththewynns LOL, BUT !!!! We will love you forever because you did ;)
I cannot wait until you get back on Curiosity... Love the videos... My Wife and I love traveling around the world. I retired last fall so that we could travel more and now we are sitting in Ohio waiting to be released... Your Videos make my week!
@ Michael Holliday, where at in Ohio, I live in Cincinnati myself.
@@Cap513 Greater Columbus Area... I use to have a Four Wind with twin screws up at Marblehead. If I was 10 years younger I would buy a 45 or 50 ft. Cat. Since I am not, currently waiting for my new red Tesla Model Y LR AWD.
Ugh, we can't wait to get back to CURIOSITY as well. It may be a while 😥
@@gonewiththewynns Let's all hope not. We wish you the best in Fiji! Stay safe....
You guys are awesome. So glad you enjoyed our beautiful country.👍🇿🇦
Doh!! The keys😱 You’ll never forget that trip. Another spectacular trip with the Mighty Wynn’s. Stay safe.
Llama dancing without gin isn't much fun! Great video guys, thank you.
😂🤣🤣🤣 this is way I ALWAYS stay until the end!!!! #GoKateLlamaDace 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
WONDERFUL FUN adventure with you all! We are so grateful to have the opportunity to see & meet new places with you. THANK YOU for bringing us all along :-) Cheer & thanks!
Yes!!!!
You made it to my old home country,
I know you’ll have a jol and be treated fantastically - the country and people will not disappoint, guaranteed.
🍻 from 🇨🇦
Ya know the "KEY" works on the doors as well...right?
Sorry couldn't resist.....
But I know of folks that truly didn't know that - HA!!
Parr 4 the Course - I don't think there were any Key Holes on the outside of the car... didn't look like it.
There was a key hole on the back of the vehicle. The key would have got them in.
That doesn't always work. When you go years without using them they can corrode and get jammed up.
Haha, I thought the same thing BUT...then Kate told us the alarm system is not 'factory installed' and when the fob is not used to disarm the alarm it kills the ignition. Then again, we could have disconnected the alarm horn, and hot wired the car, that would have made for a great video 🤯
Gone with the Wynns
Modern technology, I drive a 1971 ElCamino, so.........
It is a totally different experience when you see a place with friends who live there. Mossel Bay looks beautiful 😊👍
This was a very interesting video and I loved the drone views....thank you! Kate appears to be a neat free spirit....
My boss is South African between him and Kate I’m itching to go see South Africa now!
I missed Kate. It's nice to be able to laugh in these trying times. She just instantly puts a smile on our faces.
And that is why I miss Kate! Well done guys. Loved the video.
Major props sent to your guide! Wow....what a great dude! Fun episode.....I hope you do head back for the 2 weeks to see the animals! Very cool Thanks!
Tony & Susan here, this tasting trip reminds us of our summers in Leeland Michigan, so many great places. We are wishing you the best and hope you are soon to be aboard the boat.
I lived in SA in the early 70's, did the garden route and Kruger, looks like i should do it again.
Haha funny video guys, SA looks amazing.
Don't forget to bless the rains down in Africa and take some time to do the things you never had :D
😆😂
The Llama dance was adorable!
So much fun! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Yes...South Africa definitely very diverse! When we had the boat in Richards Bay, we went on a safari every weekend. Now in Cape Town...well Hout Bay...we are locked down...but the moment they release us we are gonna see this side of the country! Can not wait! How long ago were you here? -Rebecca on SV Brick House
Seeing the dance prior to the story and having seen that you have gone to a gin distillery- I was 100% blaming it on the GIN! Forget the story-that was saucey 🤪 thanks for putting a laugh at the start of my day.
Considering all that has and is going on and all that you Wynns have been through since putting your boat on the hard, this video, which should feel like one of your more normal ones seems the most surreal. Sending love to Singha.
I has been a long few months...and it feels like a different life when we were out exploring Tonga. Surreal is the perfect word for it.
Funny the things gin can make you do to have fun lol. Great video. Hopefully your getting closer to your home in tonga have a good time and we will c-ya
You guys are hilarious!! Love the dance Kate!
Thanks for sharing. What a beautiful country
Nice to see you guys in our back yard - hope you had tons of fun!
We were headed that way this year - now stuck in Indonesia and maybe sailing back for Australia
Cheers guys
"Sniff the bouquet of fragrances in this gin, and note the subtle hint of sewer..." 😂
😆😆😆
Oh man, what a dance 😃 really some good entertainment there 😂
And after some time with the Wynn’s and a Llama dance with Kate, my morning coffee is complete.
That was a nerve wracking series of rescues. Kate's brain was probably still overloaded with adrenaline when she forgot that she could use the key manually. Great video. Maybe a future RV trip through Africa when it's safe and the world sorts itself out again?
One Earth, so many different ways to enjoy it. Thank you
At the naval museum you can see Capt Tony Strawbridge whom I'm named after.
Anthony Strawbridge that’s cool!
You guys are fabulous fun while in pandemic lockdown!!
Kate is adorable doing the lama dance LOL
Llama dance w/Kate FTW!!!! LOL - That was epic and i need to try some of the Gin =)
Now I have another reason to love Llamas, and must try to see that Llama dance in real life.
What a great video. So. Africa seems like a great place to see. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe in these crazy times!
We live in a lovely place and that was just a tiny spot. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
Beautiful countryside. I would love to visit SA.
Kate's llama dance is my new quarantine workout. Thanks
😆😆😆💙💙
The water in the key retrieval clip is so cold that the fellow that retrieved the keys is now singing soprano in the male voice choir!
Thank you guys for sharing such amazing videos! It really is a good distraction from all the scary stuff going around the world
OK.... now I know this is ridiculous but.... I watched this video all the way thru and enjoyed it so much with all the new drinks and stuff (like the ice cream). I went in the kitchen grabbed a ice cold beer and put your video on my 24' monitor, turned off the lights and watched it all over again. Thanks for the trip to South Africa. I know I will never go there but thanks to you guys..... I just went.
OMG!!! How did I missed this one too?!! 🙃💥 and how come you haven’t done a documentary?? As a graphic designer/not professional video editor…. believe me I enjoy your content beyond words so please keep showing up on my feed 😁🥰😘
Good job, Kate - all around! ❤️
I just love Kate, such a great screen presence, and she's such a grab-bag of traits and quirks: the lady who can do maintenance of engineering systems on a superyacht but can't be trusted with the car keys . . .
Loved watching you lot as always. Nikki looked cute looking at the camera through her legs (I’m married 😳), whilst Kate went one better by giving her keys a rinse. I’ve never seen Nikki poke fun at Kate this much, she was in her element 🤣. However, the star of the show is Kate the twerking llama! 🦙
Don’t ever change Kate, you’re one beautiful human being, in every aspect girl. 🥰😍🥰 from Brexitland 🏴.
That’s was an adventure you’ll remember for years to come ... stay safe.
That was Funny guys. Loved the different scenery they have there.
“I’m sorry did you say Sewer?” Nikki had me cracking up.
You got Kate dancing like a llama.....yep, time for another drink! I wonder what animal will be next, and who will do the next animal dance....????
How could anyone give a thumbs down to this, just so funny in these times especially.
Wow beautiful place. Kate is the best!!!
My grandfather made those smelling stone holders for the fynbos and you visited his home town called Stillbaai. Thanks for the episode guys.
