      It may be made by the same director, but Samurai Champloo isn't remotely as good as Cowboy Bebop. It's like comparing Stephen Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark vs Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

      Not to the exact type, but the main villain in D Gray man "The Millennium Earl" has a similar physicality and mystical question at first glance. Very different characters/motives, actually magic hoopla for the earl, but close in design. Pier is definitely more memorable.

  • @ajversus
    @ajversus Год назад +26

    It's crazy... You never see Spike that freaked out, confused, and really outmatched in the 1st encounter in any other episode. You almost wondered how Spike was going to beat this guy. And Mad's backstory has to be one of the most disturbing. For him to have a taste for the kill, it's like candy to a kid. Then when Spike got through the armor with the knife and you see Pierrot cry for his momma, ultimately meeting his demise via a giant cat. It was a bittersweet victory putting and end to this man's suffering.

    11:44 Calvin XD
    I've always felt sad for Pierrot. Yeah, he was mad but it's just so... Sad.
    It's also interesting to see Pierrot just collapse after feeling pain. To him it all was a game and about revenge, he hadn't expected that he could to be hurt. And the screaming for his mother gets me every time.

    • @blackmanwhitesuit
      @blackmanwhitesuit 4 года назад +8

      It's how a child would react to pain, and all you needed to beat him was make him not feel invincible anymore. It's sad, but at the same time, he was a ticking time bomb.

    One of my favorite episodes, the animation and music is so amazing. The tone is genuinely creepy and the villain is so unnerving. The fact that he’s like a child adds a weird creep factor towards his death where’s he’s brutally crushed while crying. Creepy man

  • @Reddragon-hn6ot
    @Reddragon-hn6ot 5 лет назад +32

    For me the most action - packed episode of the series, not necessarily the best but the most intense and entertaing from the beginning till the end. Pierrot le fou had all the elements needed to be a great villain for that episode. Killer, crazy and scary. And although he was clearly not himself the result is the same.

    Loved the reaction and the discussion. Cool for Rick to come in with that extra knowledge. Never knew that's where his name came from. Actually liked this episode a lot more on this watch than I have in the past. I always figured the Cat belong to one of the scientists who brought it to work with him.
    Either that or the cat was a pet or mascot of the Lab. Like most pet cats, it had free reign of the Lab and liked sitting in a window as some cats do. The cat was present and visible to Pierrot during is augmentation so I'm guessing the imagery of the Cat while he was being inflicted with severe pain created a psychological link in his mind. Kinda like the old days when electric shock treatments where used to try and help smokers quit.

  • @Bardoftoday
    @Bardoftoday 3 года назад +3

    I always figured Spike's dagger connected because the shield comes down momentarily in order for Pierre to fire. So the knife hit at the exact moment the shield was down. That's why you saw Spike throw the knife and a split second later the bullet hit his shoulder. That second was enough time for the knife to sail the distance needed to hit Pierre =at the exact moment he fired his gun.

It made me think... maybe its symbolic since they gave him "cat like reflex's".. also, I always just thought the cat was a pet to one of the "scientist's." Or had some other mundane reason for being there.. But how messed up would it be to watch other humans experiment on you and torture you.... all while they are nurturing and taking care of an animal right in front of you? 😱

    Aaron's aversion to needles makes me chuckle because although I don't like needles myself, every two months I have to get eye injections. One needle to freeze the eye (freezing drops first), another for the medication - per eye. 4 needles in all.

    I never considered *Spike* to have a death wish. I just saw him to be somewhat nihilistic.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    There were a lot of in-depth interpretations of things within this episode by the gang. But some seemed to be elements which were never addressed in the episode, yet the gang seemed to not only have questions about, but more surprising, particular interpretations of. Elements which (I felt) were not intended to be quite so picked apart in the first place. But I guess that's what this whole Reaction bag is about.
    I hate this episode with the heat of -a thousand suns- ¾ of a light bulb. While the art style saves it a bit for me, it is easily my least favorite episode.
