As a desk job untrained person I started (being older than 30) by going walking. I did it for the first couple of years gradually getting my body into tonus. Chronic depression prevented me from doing more intense exercises (life felt already way too hard). So I did those activities I liked, added some variety over time (walking off pavement, doing small running sessions as much and long as it was bringing me feeling of joy, adding weight in my backpack, doing walking meditation or photos on my way, learning to walk correctly, etc.). Over time I noticed that I became stronger - that was my victory - is gave me confidence and reassurance that I can change for the best, physical activity became welcomed. I still do not push myself [only for fun], but seek what gets me excited. Together with my body we select activities that we like and do only those, with joy and pleasure.

Not only does the advice and knowledge she shares help save you money but it makes you feel better about yourself, it's a non-realistic expectation to look 18 forever. I started running three years ago and now love it. My advice is to start easy. I started by walking 10,000 steps and then an occasional sprint and then walking and then trying to run without stopping for a mile. Now I can run 5 miles with very short walk breaks. I am older than most of you here so I have modest triumphs. Changed my life, lost two stone of fat and have so much more endurance for everyday life.

Eventhough I know/agree eveything you says about that exercise and know the importance of it, but the reality is that I am just not motivated to do on a regular basis. I would get into a 2 wk period trying to do it regularly but the motivation never lasts. But during the pandemic, I find myself sitting infront of the TV every evening for 2~3 hours, and so I started just doing some simple stretching everyday while watching TV. Now it’s been for 1.5 years and i still kept it up and built up quite a routine. I have gotten rid of all my aches, and feel the best I have ever felt just from that one simple change. So, I agree the key is to start with one small thing that is easy to adapt (so not unpleasant) and build from that is important to long term success. I realize it is the things you do everyday that makes the biggest difference!

This made me pretty sad because I can't exercise due to disability. My mitochondria don't function the way they should for my age level, so sometimes I can't get out of bed. I just got diagnosed last year so I'm still grieving all the things I can't do anymore. I used to be crazy active, but now I'm forced to be sedentary. Your skeleton shrinks after menopause. My mom was always taller than me, now she's much shorter than me. And obviously that affected her skin. That's mainly hormonal, but strength training helps maintain bone structure and density. But ultimately, only hormone replacement can help slow this down.

But anyway, all the good habits and skincare in the world won't protect a woman from the sudden absence of hormones that happens at around 50. I really think it's something that there should be more discussion around. How can you stop your skin from wrinkling if your skeleton is shrinking? i agree. during the pandemic i have had time to learn how to take care of my skin and which products to use. after two years using first tretinoin, then adding azelaic acid (a notable improvement), tranexemic acid and more recently a trial of hydroquinone spot treatment. My skin looks 25 years younger (my pre menopausal self). Despite these useful efforts, i can still see a big difference in my glow and overall skin appearance when i have regular aerobic exercise (esp high intensity intervals which gives me a good workout in a shorter time---still working full time so i need to be efficient.). i had to hold off strenuous exercise for 6 weeks post surgery recently, and saw and felt the difference. i come from a long lived family and want to stay healthy and ACTIVE to the end. it's a nice bonus that exercise helps my skin look great too.

Thanks for this video on a very important topic! Especially emphasizing that exercise will benefit all parts of your total body. And improving lifestyle factors can not only benefit your skin, but it can prevent or delay serious health conditions, including heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer's. Who doesn't want that? And, in my mind, most importantly, staying active can keep you independent for longer. That means when you're older, you'll be more likely to be able to stay in your own home (instead of moving into assisted living), drive your own car (instead of being dependent on family or public transportation), and get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night on your own without asking for help from a family member or paid caregiver. These things didn't seem too important to me in my 20s, but watching my parents get older made me realize how important it will be. Getting and staying active isn't easy for someone who isn't, but starting small (even if it's only 10 minutes!) and building on it (increasing time and intensity), makes it a lot easier! And delaying Alzheimer's has been excellent motivation for me!

I empathise with you. I'm on my feet all day too, sometime more than 9 hours. The last thing I want to do is anything standing up, or wearing enclosed shoes, so I regularly go to my local indoor pool. Sometimes laps...and sometimes just light exercise & stretching (in the warm water rehab pool) using buoyancy devices under my arms...so my feet never touch the pool's floor! It's terrific to feel weightless in the water. I let my body "tell" me what it needs and how to move to loosen up tight & tired muscles. Just move at whatever pace feels best for you at the time. Once you are in the warm water you wont want to get out! I find the water helps to clear my mind.

So true about exercise. I used to walk 4 miles daily and ride my bike 4 miles. I looked younger than I was. Unfortunately I was in a wreck and the TBI and other injuries sustained slowed my walking and stopped the biking. I was less regular with my yoga.. I aged a lot for many years. Finally I am getting over the wreck and come down with chronic EBV
And chronic fatigue. One effect of the brain injury is I didn't remember what this tube of ointment was and tossed it. After watching your videos I now know it was Tretinonion 🤪 so 20 years later I am back on OTC retinal. Vit c and in the last year have been able to walk more and do more yoga 🧘‍♀️
I am feeling and looking better. And your videos helped. But I can't help but wonder how I might have looked without all the health issues from the wreck and my illness. Doing my best!

At first it was inconsistent and I noticed when the facial and neck muscles were not being used they really looked a lot saggier and my neck really looked bad..After 3 yrs I was diagnosed and put on the Spironolactone and hydrocortisone ---very small dose.10 mg a.m. 5 p.m.
I bet you should look at swimming for facial muscles and really all muscles.I notice a lot of muscle definition all over,I cannot run anymore because of the venous insufficiency which improved with ablation procedures but its still not good enough to run or bike, anything that has gravity. That Crepy, saggy stuff goes away or lessens a lot as long as I swim..Im all about swimming. and it works for me and may help others who have venous disease.
