Just to be clear, a M4/3rds 2.8 lens is not a 5.6 lens FF equivalent. The depth of field is and that's a very different statement. This myths has done a lot of damage to the M4/3rds system. It's annoying that even professionals don't understand this. A F2.8 M4/3rds lens is a F2.8 lens and you are going to expose it accordingly. So yes, a F2.8 M4/3rds lens will have the same exposure parameters then a F2.8 FF lens. Obviously ISO performance will be better on the FF and you will have better IQ in general. Cheers
Don’t worry we clarified this exact thing in the conversation that it is only the depth and not the light like an f1.7 is the depth of a 3.4 but light of an 1.7. We all know this👍🏻
I have to say, for what I do, I find it hard to improve upon my GH5. I got the GH6, but the improvements don't change much for interviews and talking head stuff. The external recording is good, but not necessary, and even the improved autofocus on the GH7 doesn't revolutionize those simple tasks. I've taken advantage of the lower price of used GH5s to have backups.
Yeah honestly if you are cool with pulling focus the GH6 Image looks better at least to me. So as long as autofocus isn’t a problem and you are gonna light your scene then that camera is a power house still
@@MatthewDangyou That combo is what kept me in M43. It is absolute gold and perfect for a two-camera interview set up, as well as every set up that I have personally required. Everyone’s mileage/km will vary, but those two lenses paired with GH6, G9M2, GH7 and even the GH5 lines are what most anyone would require. Everything else is just G.A.S. leaking.
We want SMALL Mft cameras back… The “Mft cameras are smaller” argument is unfortunately not so true today… G9ii has the s5 body and gh7 is even chunkier. Hopefully this is a strategic move from lumix: when they will release a new compact Mft, lots of people will like it. Market is lacking a truely compact and powerful camera. What happened to the gx85 for example ? It was a great and compact camera back in 2016 with ibis, 4k with little to no crop, good built quality, mechanical shutter … was excellent at the time. G100 is a good move, but to much of an entry level camera (no ibis, massive crop in 4k, no 10 bit … etc)
I would love to see a G7ii around $800 or so with 4K 24/30fps 10 bit with and 1080 60fps 10 bit with ibis and phase detect would be insane for an entry level camera
I totally agree! I have a G9 and that body style has valid use cases (as does GH7, G9II). However we need both those larger bodies AND new smaller form cameras with the latest and greatest specs (well, as many of the specs as they can stuff into a smaller body at least).
Yeah but remember when the GH6 roled out and it basically almost had everyone done with MFT, then the G9ii came out with PDAF but not a lot of heads turned. Now the GH7 and everyone is suddenly considering MFT again.
well sure, but the new technology in lenses today is what those 80 older lenses are missing. There is a zoom lens now for the full frame that is an f1.8. To get that type of Bokeh on MFT (not light) on a zoom is the type of development we are missing out on
@@MatthewDangyou Remember that the aperture is not the only factor in creating bokeh; factors like focal length, subject distance, separation, and sensor size also matter. Switching to a full-frame camera might be easier, especially if the lens you want is available for full-frame cameras.
lol haha! Honestly, I just did my GH6 vs GH7 video and it is pretty shocking of a difference. Of course, you can use manual lenses and all of that to get great-looking videos! But it makes a world of difference the moment you have it. Also, kinda a must in today's day and age based on the competition.
Started w canon t2i then upgraded when the gh5s came out. Just realized the arri log doesnt roll over in raw log🤷since Gh7 has realtime lut how do ya use the arri luts on the Gh6 being no RTL? The pana/leica 1.7 is cool when shootin dark scene the dji focus pro pops on in seconds w no focus motor needed. MFT Lumix are solid except moire would be cool to be intigrated in a tool like zebras or something to detect. Get rid of the evf and ad 1/4 20 w lockin pin body! It would be cool to have record control in camera through all lumix cameras for in camera sync record w/o the need for timecode in multicam production.Thank You
Around 8:30 you talk about how when using 12-35 you feel inferior versus when using 10-25mm. You talk about "the feel" and looking more professional. Now I respect your opinion but I gotta say I have been using GH5s for last 5ish years exclusively with tiny Lumix 25mm, 12-35mm and Leica8-18mm for Real Estate work. I didn't feel "like a champ" I appreciated how light everything is when on gimbal and I did not "feel less professional" and yes I am living from it on full time basis, Sure clients will probably feel better about you having bigger looking setup but at the end it depends on what work you do.
Yeah I shoot decently big commercial projects with decent size budgets for 3+ crew members😂 that is what typically my sets look like so I do agree the light weight size is so nice for so many things and is a huge advantage to a ton of people. For myself I do personally prefer bigger rigs because client perspective is a real thing too at the end of the day
If you are more of a photographer, you better pick the G9ii.A great camera. A huge upgrade over the original G9 which I have owned for 3 years. Great fitures and image quality.
M43 is not being saved buy any one camera Maybe a jump in users for filmmakers but there are many people that use M43 for different things. Same can be said for almost any other brand.
Come on guys, what is this nonsense you're talking about - The f/2.8 lens is like an f/5.6 lens it's not bright enough. f/2.8 lens is always 2.8, that's the light gathering. It's like f/5.6 compared to a FF only in the DoF. You may need a brighter lens for shallow DoF and subject separation or you may need more DoF so m4/3 lenses will be great. But f/2.8 is always f/2.8 If you shoot with multiple formats you can exchange m4/3 and FF bodies and keep the aperture and ISO, you are not closing the m4/3 lens to 5.6 to match the exposure.
Yeah we know that and mentioned it in the video with the f1.7 being an 3.4 with the light of an 1.7 we don’t mention it everytime because that can get a wee bit annoying😂🤷🏼♂️
