Great review! Very insightful and balanced. Board and Dice has become one of my favourite publishers. My favourite game by them is Nucleum. And then I would say Barcelona and Terracotta Army. I've only played these ones solo and they're all great. And Windmill Valley is also on my list to buy once my FLGS gets it in. I can tell from all the research and gameplay videos I've seen that I will love it.
Excellent review! I think Resurgence is my favorite Stan Kordonskiy game. And Teotihuacan is my favorite Board & Dice game. I haven’t played Barcelona or Windmill Valley, but they’re in my queue. I can hold off on this one for a bit :)
This review was awesome, especially the critique. For me, I have been buying Kordonskis games on sight because they look awesome, but I have sold every one of them after 1 or 2 plays due to issues like the ones you critiqued. Flow of a game is essential for continuous plays. I will probably pass on this one. Teotihuacan on the other hand is amazing.
Despite your review, I am super interested in this game. Probably my second most anticipated one until the end of the year, with Civolution being a game I need, like, yesterday (oh mah gawd, so hyped for that one). Board & Dice have released some really good games these past couple of years, with my favorite being Barcelona (for which the expansion should arrive fairly soon). It is just a super fun point salad puzzle every time my fianceé and I play it. Plus, it plays in well under an hour an has that perfect "work day weight" 😅
Isn't there a rule stating you must reroll if there are more than x of the same dice (ie reroll if you get five 6s)? This being to mitigate the exact point you're making in your critique re getting almost all 6s
@@tantrumhousegames What about the following (p. 10 - "Roll the dice")? "Roll all the dice and sort them by their value. If at least 6 dice show the same value, reroll all the dice."
@@saviloic Thanks for the info. It's an easy thing to overlook during the game. I don't remember exactly how many of each number we rolled, but it wasn't 6 of the same value. My card activated on fives and sixes. There was a large number of the two combined, and one of the other players was focusing on low value dice so I was able to grab 3 dice that were fives or sixes.
The Kordonskiy games I've played have these "mini-games" which can, more or less, be independent of the theme. Often less for me. I'm not excited about this one because of this.
Origins: First Builders uses the dice holders.
that's right!! thanks
@@tantrumhousegames Coimbra as well

Great review. Appreciate you comparing it to other B&D games and other Stan K games!
Thanks for watching!

there is no rule like that

I think it is six of kind and you reroll all dice?

This is much more coherent and the actions are connected. It's far from being a mini-games collection :)
