    Does you engine sound like this it the morning? If it does, you might need to look at your valve adjustments. Detroit recommends to have your valves adjusted at 100K miles and then at every 500K miles.
    I definitely do not agree with this, I recommend to have your valves looked at or have a compression test done every 100K to 150K miles as part of your regular maintenance. It is a lot less expensive to have your valves adjusted than to have your cylinder head replaced or possible engine failure because of a dropped valve that can wipe out an engine.
    These newer emissions engines are not like the old school Detroit Series 60, Cummins N14 or CAT engines. I know it’s not what we want to hear but it’s the times we live in.

      In my opinion,Hard to start, bad emission smells. Those symptoms means valves lash tight,fuel can’t burn completely, it goes to one box. That is why the one box failed fast after 600,000miles for someone.

    • @CarlosDieselElectric

      Valve adjustment typically costs $450 on up.
      I had a customer just come in our shop for a valve adjustment. His truck just reached 501K miles.
      There were a few intake valves that were tight, so we proceeded to adjust all the valves regardless. This way the adjustment is done across the board.

      Makes ya wonder why they're eating valves, though. This wasn't an issue with the Series 60 4-cycles or the 2-strokes before that. 'Course I have no doubt in my mind Commiefornia would have a siezure if you tried to register and use a tractor with a screaming jimmy in it today......

    • @CarlosDieselElectric
      @CarlosDieselElectric  Месяц назад

      @@turbovtec5390 for a DD15 around 400-450. For a DD13 in a short nose Cascadia, slightly more because of the lack of room. A DD13 has half the motor inside the cab area.
      But $1000 is way too much. Even with a new valve cover gasket which costs $75 on the high side. You still are not anywhere near $1000.
      Find another shop. We all need to make money but that seems excessive for a valve adjustment on a DD engine.
