I was a 6.5 cm fan for quite a while, but I've moved into the higher velocity 7s. I'm not going to get rid of the 6.5 but the 7s are my choice for hunting
Your 6.5 PRC groups got better and your velocity got faster. I have encountered the same thing when my rifle was just cleaned. After about 5 - 10 fouling shots, the groups and velocities stabilized.
I think 6.5PRC is an INCREDIBLE deer hunting cartridge. These days I feel like the disadvantages of recoil are overrated and the advantages of a flat trajectory are underrated.
Lightweight rifles becoming more popular. Increasing the recoil. Equal and opposite reaction. 270 win. , 8 pound rifle, barely moves. Had a 6.5 CM, 5 pound rifle, no brake. Destroyed Leupold optic, kicked like a rabid mule, handloads, 125 grain with express mail added.
Merry christmas sir! All i wish for xmas is more load data for 6.5 RPM lol ypu are one of the only people on the internet shooting and reloading it! Love your content, try to watch it all. Im new to reloading and ELR shooting
It could be your mounts or the scope that could be causing the impact shifts in both rifles. I know I've had both of those in the past, frustrating to always have to sight in your load all the time. I really am liking this series of finding the right powders, hope you do it for the 6.8 Western sometime. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Are your talley rings the aluminum ones or the steel with a quick detach option? The talley aluminum should be used only on lighter recoiling guns. Their traditional steel bases and vertically split rings can handle my 375 and 416 rigby. You probably can avoid a pic rail if you use their traditional steel rings. I found H4831sc to be a bit fast to get consistent case fill and accuracy with my 6.5-284 and my friends 6.5 prc in a 140 plus gr bullet. That powder is my favorite for 125 to 130 copper bullets. N560 also is very good. Have you tried retumbo, magpro or n565 with a 140? They generally give better accuracy and in a longer barrel should be fairly efficient. Generally the berger hybrid targets are more forgiving to seating depth than the VLD varieties. Merry Christmas and good shooting.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the gun, shooting, handloading, hunters, and rifle builders out there. Yes, I'd like to see more 6.5PRC content. When I do my testing after deer season is over with the ones I have and compare them to my 6.5-284 Norma rifles, If the PRCs are less than impressive by comparison, I'm selling all of them. In fairness, I've not spent a lot of time with the 6.5PRCs but what I have noticed so far is they are harder to tune compared to the 6.5-284 Norma. I have plenty of Lapua brass on hand to maintain a dozen 6.5-284 Norma rifles for another 25 years. They kick less and seem to be more efficient and mine shoot extremely well.
The 6.5-284 is legit and very accurate. I have shot both and can't say the prc is better unless someone wants a short action and factory loads. The 6.5 saum and 6.5 SS are very good in short actions and will outrun the prc, but there are very few components.
@@thebryguy96 Th 6.5-284 Norma is the most accurate 6.5 I've ever owned, loaded for, and hunted with, even surpassing the 6.5CM. In fairness, all of our 6.5 CM are factory rifles, all Tikka but one Rem 700. I do plan on testing either a Bartlein or Brux in 6.5CM though but that will likely be this coming spring before I get it back
Merry Christmas, I don't think your rings are bad!!! I have same ones for my 338-378 Weatherby and have zero problems, I go imr 7828ssc and work from there !!! Weatherby love that powder, my buddy 340 shoots great groups loaded out mag length 225 accubond 7828ssc, your a great reloader, I own alot of bees,270,7mm,257,300,30-378,338-378,all 7828ssc half to 3/4 groups loaded out all accubond
Nice groups with the 6.5-PRC . Have you messed around with seating depths with your 340 WBY ? Maybe you could pull the stock off and have it bedded that will help alot . You could also try a muzzle break, but you would have to thread your barrel . You definitely need some good heavy rings & bases. 3 screw rings preferably to get the best security on your scope . That's pretty heavy recoil on your optics, believe it or not . I've seen this a number of times . The scope it's self might not be able to handle that heavy recoil . If you know of the channel ( Quarter minute magnum ), he talks about it as well . He also has had scopes throw groups and break from heavy recoil. Just saying it's a possibility . I have had alot of luck with Leopold and Arken optics myself using them on 338 RUM , 338 Lapua 375 RUM , 375 Chey-Tac 416 Rigby , 450 Rigby and 416-Barrett so far I haven't broken the Leopold or the Arken scopes . only time will tell it's only been 2 years now using Arken and 10 years on my Leopold scopes. Hope you and your family have a MARRY CHRISTMAS. God bless you and your family. God-bless America 🇺🇸 🇨🇱🇺🇲🇨🇱🇺🇲🇨🇱🇺🇲.
Keep at it , its getting there. Not sure if you have tried ramshot grand , a lot of people online have gotten great results with that . Im still waiting on my 6.5 PRC to get here. I have a scope, new peterson brass , couple of powders , and a couple of different bullets to try waiting for it here for the rifle to show.
I’ve used Talley with success on a few heavy recoiling magnums. Try remounting the optic before turfing them. Give everything a good clean, torque them to spec and it’s a good idea to lap them if you can too.
I shot the same exact rifle. I use R26 with Hornady Eldx 143gr and Nosler Accubond LR 142. I use max Hornady data and get their velocities. I use 1 less grain of powder in my 142 ABLR. I am getting 3175 fps average with both bullets and 3/4 inch groups. My last 3 deer have been taken with it. I have not bothered to switch to anything else for powder.
I doubt the rings are the issue, unless they are aluminum, although anything is possible . . . I would be inclined to check your bedding first, especially when the point of impact changes from day to day.
3000 with 24" bbl. Not too shabby. Retumbo powder: use a strong primer, H1000 will benefit also. Had a load dialed in for 6.5 PRC. IMR 8133, used a pound in development. Flirting with 3150 mark. 127 LRX. Consistent groups. Powder was discontinued, At least Ive got the seating depth nailed. Still got an open pound of 8133. 4831sc, be my next try, when needed. Thanks.
@@ReloadingWeatherbyi like the fuller case and u need more data than just 3 groups. they could have been the shooter those days. also the rifle could have been bumped to cause impact shift or even temp and weather!
Next year I have a 6.5PRC and 7PRC to load develop for. Any recommendations on powder choices (besides this one which yielded very nice results)? Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Since you shoot it with a brake I would think the the rings would be fine. Recoil with the brake isn't that bad. I would think scope or something else is going on.
What length barrel on prc i couldn't get 2950 out of mine 24 inch barrel. And I'm thinking about 225 in my 340 looking for as high velocity as I can get what powder do u recommend. Great video as always keep it coming
If you’re re-testing or reconfirming a load, that would be the time to do a 5+ shot group. If you’re still hunting for a load and want to save components, 3 shot groups are fine. I’m at the point where I think a lot of people are sticking with 3 shot groups for bragging rights and clicks/views.

The creed is still great for recreation or letting less experienced shooters enjoy our hobby.

@ReloadingWeatherby if you want a traditional looking and strong mount, get the talley steel with the rings that tighten on the top.

3 or 4 scope rings give less lbs per square inch of recoil pounding on the scope body. Plus more screws holding the scope in place.

4831sc, be my next try, when needed. Thanks.
Another fine video!
Thank you!
Retumbo is suppose to be better for hunting since it is more insensitive to temperature changes, at least that is what the powder was designed to do.
H4831SC has better temperature insensitivity

@RoxVrod For the record H4831SC and Retumbo are very similar for temperature insensitivity. But H4831SC barely beats it out
I have ramshot magnum and ABLR in 129s and 150s. Looking for 3250 on the 129s and 3000 on the 150s.

N560 and H4831SC for both 6.5 PRC and 7mm PRC

For my PRC I get 2930fps with IMR 8133 with a 123gr bullet, and with H4831SC I get 3250fps. Still great accuracy, and nice to have speed increase.
Somewhere between 54.5 and 55 gr is the node. Good luck, and stay safe!!! 😉😉😉
