    Hi guys. Dennis from Slagwerkkrant here. Great job on this video. A few add ons that i've seen over the years. . There have been at least a handful of 8" drums been made in 9 ply beech, but they are very, very rare. I have seen one (as in exactly 1) over the years. Original factory made. The first batch of Phonic Hitecs had the regular phonic badge. There are some non-rosewood phonic bassdrums out there with the external muffling system. I have seen a few. Sonor apparantly did this as a special order. I have come across 4 or 5 over the years. Mostly black. Sonor must have run out of small logo lugs somewhere in early 79. I had a single order factory kit that had small logo lugs on one tom, and large logo on everything else. (different times, I think no-one cared back then). Made in februari 79. Kits with small logo lugs and large logo badges and wingscrews are actually quite common.

      Wow! Thanks a lot for the info! Yes, we also heared from some Sonor dealers that they had single 9ply 8 or 6" toms in hand at some point, but even more rare as the birch or 6ply beech ones. I will definately incorperate the information from your comment in Part 2 of the video 😁👍

      Thanks a lot for the content! Well we made two videos on the Performer and Signature. We don't go as deeply into detail as we do here, but already you should get alot of information on them, if you haven't watched it already: ruclips.net/video/Fgcx5sbjVRc/видео.html

    Thank you for the video. I am the owner of a very special Phonic Rosewood drumset with 22/12/13/16. I bought it from a guy who got this set as a present from Karl Heinz Menzel in 1978. I saw the photo and newspaper article including date with him and Menzel. So the story is true. I am pretty sure that this drumset is a prototype. There are no stamps inside the shell and there are several features which came with later series. There is the newer badge, the squared tom mount brackets. Also the signature bass drum muffling is built in. The toms and the floor tom has inside muffleling also on the reso heads.

    Outstanding video🔥! I have a Phonic kit, re covered with your purple Sonor wrap. The 10 and 12 toms are converted centennial concert toms and I confirm that the 10” shell is different - thinner and it kind of looks like a solid single ply shell.

    Hi Colin! Interesting video! Well, I´m so glad I got rid of all these heavy 80´s stuff..... really glad 😂only thing I will regret until the end is selling the brilliant Phonic HiHat Pedal, the best thing I ever had! Simple construction, but though heavy, easy action and precise like a swiss watch! Thanx for the video! Merry Xmas to you and your family, in loving memory of Gerd 😇

    Excellent video, I have a couple of Phonic tom toms in the garage. I knew they were made sometime in the mid 80s, always wanted to complete the set but never got around to. They are like canons, great sound.

    Great mystery solved! My 8 inch rosewood in and out is the same thickness as my Lite 10 inch tom. I think it’s also birch. Much thinner than the tom at 15.02 in the video!

    So I just watched this fantastic video!
    Gonna play it again a couple more times.❤️
    It did raise a question for me, however, and that is a curiosity about no mention anywhere, including the catalogs, of RED acrylic.
    I know of 2 sets of them, one of which I almost bought (22, 12, 13, 16) here in the States.
    The other was a large centennial badge (22, 22, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18) seen on a German (I believe) TV show. In one episode, they were being played by Phil Taylor (minus one rack tom) with Motörhead and another episode where the complete kit was being played by the drummer in a South African all-girl band called Clout.

    • @stdrumsgmbh
      @stdrumsgmbh  Месяц назад +1

      Wow thanks a lot for the nice comment! In the catalogues only the clear, blue and smoky were depicted in the first one, and then in the later catalogues only smoky was left. But I have seen quite a few Champion kits with red acrylic shells before. I guess on request Sonor build Phonic hardware on these red acrylic shells aswell, or maybe they did offer the red ones for the US market... I am not completely sure but I learned there are always exceptions from the rule when it comes to vintage sonor 😁

      There was a red acryllic available. German TV show Rockpalast had a set of red Phonics available as their 'house kit'. It can be seen in many video's from the early 80's. Like this one with Motorhead. ruclips.net/video/utLgqCiwwZ8/видео.html

      @stdrumsgmbh  Месяц назад

      yes, the "drummers drum" slogan is also used on other 80s catalogues. Also the 84 one that we mention in the video had "drummers drum" on it and a picture of a mahogani drum

    I was playing my Tama Rockstar kit at a gig about 25 years ago. Some random dude in the audience kept telling me how awesome my Sonor kit was. I kept telling "him it's a Tama"
    I think Tama was trying to copy Phonics back then. (the kit was a 1989 model )

    • @stdrumsgmbh
      @stdrumsgmbh  Месяц назад +1

      yeah I think the lugs look very similar, but the overall quality of these Tamas is also pretty good!

    Does St drums offer slotted bass drum tension rods like the ones used on the bottom of the batter side on Signature bass drums ? I wanted to order some for my Phonic and Sonor Lite drums. Thanks.

    • @stdrumsgmbh
      @stdrumsgmbh  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, it should be these ones stdrums.com/en/p/sonor51900601-130mm but we also have a 120mm version (Maybe you can measure the length of the screw without the head to know which one you want)

    • @2002rude
      @2002rude Месяц назад +1

      @stdrumsgmbhThanks . I could probably order a set of both. All of my bass drums are 24" diameter. 17 " depth for the Lite,18" depth for the Phonic and Signature. I would also need to know if I could get the option for currency exchange options, as I live in the U.S. As well as shipping options.

    I had an XK-9409 “Sound Machine” set at the end of the seventies and was the drummer in a German rock band. The band broke up in the course of the eighties. From then on, I had my Sonor Phonic in my living room. But I was young and needed money. So I sold it. That still makes me sad sometimes and I regret it.
