Why I buy small Gold Bars - 1g, 2.5g, 5g etc

  • Why invest in small Gold Bars?
    Buying small Gold bars like the 1 gram, 2.5 gram Pamp etc the you need to be aware of a few things like potential fakes on eBay and such like.
    The reason is simple - in relative terms to buy 1 gram of Gold in 10 years will require more than it does now - much more than 5 grams will be a real barrier to entry into the Gold bullion market for many people.

    I really like your videos. I also like buying the small 1g to 5g gold bars. When people say it isn't worth it due to higher premiums, they don't realize that you DO get those premiums back when you sell! (Like you mentioned). For those of us who are not wealthy and appreciate real money, this is the way to go. And yes, I think PAMP is best, followed by Valcambi. Thanks for your videos! ;-)

    What a wonderful observation which helps me to feel better about buying the fractional gold. I never thought about about how much easier it will be to liquidate those vs full oz and bigger as well as the market demanding a high premium once the spot price reaches future highs. It's really not a bad choice although so many stacker channels always say the smartest is to go larger for lower premium which is true but for the purpose of high prices,the fractional will be more than easy to convert. Thanks for sharing your insight

    Another very viable reason to hold small bars instead of big ones, and I'm saying this very seriously, in case of some emergency scenario where you need to buy food/pay for transport/whatever and economy is in tatters, it's much easier to have lets say 10 bars of 1 gram than one 10 gram bar. Not to say you shouldn't get any of the bigger ones, but you should have a fair portion of small ones as well.

    Great video! I’m in total agreement. If I had a large sum of money I wouldn’t bother with sovereigns at all. I’d just buy as many 1gm gold bars as I could afford. Plus the more you buy in bulk the premium goes down. But you can also still sell them ‘with’ the premium you didn’t have to stump up for. The great thing about these 1 gram gold bars is that they are closer to real money. They are not too dissimilar from a £50 note in value. It’s cash/currency but it’s also investment/bullion. It’s also a unit that is used throughout the world. Imagine being up shit creek in the middle of nowhere but you remembered to bring your 1 gram gold bar with you. That £50 - £100’s worth will get you out of the shit. Try selling a gold sovereign to a random when you’re desperate. In a poorer country it’d be even worse. 1 grams bars all the way!

    Long story short, if you got big stack of cash in your hands then you go for it and get the largest gold bar as possible to save some premium, but if you are saving regulary like 200-500 dollars a month then you go for the fractional bars and coins. But important to remember, you never ever go for fractional if you got a huge cash at one moment, cuz i know many people who love to spend their 10K with many fractional bars rather than getting one bar for the same amount. Silver is good, so you could get a 1g Gold and a couple ounces of Silver for around the same price as a 2.5g Gold bar.

      @@KakashiH318 If it was me I would jump in now. At the time of writing 10g Gold is about $600 USD so even if the market had a sudden pull back of 15% (which would be highly unlikely) you would only be saving $90, but the way things are heading (dollar weak at moment (91.2) I would say one has more chance of begin more gutted that it moves up 25% in the next few weeks and your looking at $750+ for the same bar.

    • @TangibleLife
      @TangibleLife  3 года назад +2

      Hi, I would try and do both. I think given current climate I would like to have at least 10% of my wealth in physical Gold. If you can afford around £150 pm on Metals then that would be a great start. I think 10% of your allocation could go on Silver. For example one might buy a single 2.5g Gold bar (or 2 x 1g bars) and a 1oz 999 Silver coin for around that price. I think if you go much less it's going to take a long time to accumulate anything worth having in the timeframe you have. You must make sure you can afford to keep your investments for the long term and not overextend and have to sell the what you've built up a few years later to pay a bill or something, that would be gutting. The problem with small bars like these is the premiums are really high as a percentage of the total cost to purchase. A one ounce bar or coin would have a smaller premium. I believe I read that in the UK silver is assessed sales tax on purchases but gold is not. Are British issued silver coins tax exempt? If so, I would recommend buying one ounce silver coins if you have limited funds instead of these high premium gold bars. Oh, and don't buy any bars off of Ebay. You're just asking to be scammed. Stick with known coin dealers.

    • @TangibleLife
      @TangibleLife  4 года назад +8

      I think the premium is only an issue if you are trying to flip Gold in the short term based on performance. If you are holding for 5 years its not an issue. I try to have a split of Gold in my portfolio that is for quick gains when prices rise to liquidate quickly with profit, and the other buys are long term investments.

I'm selling 1g gold bars that I paid £45 for 3 months ago for £70/£80 today on eBay when spot is only £47. People could actually but from a bullion dealer for less than eBay, and that is because demand is so high at the moment - and dealers have supply issues. In 10 years the same £45 should be at least £65 if not doubled judging by the way things are going with Covid, endless money printing, Gold backed cryptos, Mining supply issues and on eBay than means near £100.. better return than sticking it in the bank and hoping for 15% interest rates which will never happen in our lifetime... although the downside is that there is always risk attached to buying Gold...

      Casey Mashiter the price of the gold will always have its value and sale price. It depends who you are selling to that you may get a little extra for the premium/branding especially if it is a rare bar that had limited supply, if the gold is still in mint condition eg still in packaging, you may get a little extra. Essentially, depends who you sell to, if it’s a big company, they probably will pay more for branding,

      @@shadowr1552 yes it's nice to feel the GOLD! But if you are planning a resale it may prove to be a bit trickier as the buyer may need you to verify it's worth. I always open one to play, then I'm over it!

      Nothing wrong with Royal Mint bars, - I do find they are quite hard to find though on the secondary market.

      Does that make them easier or harder to sell? Also where would I sell to once I was ready? eBay? Back to the royal mint?
      Pamp looks good too. Was thinking about buying a few 1g a month and selling after 10years

    • @TangibleLife
      @TangibleLife  3 года назад +3

      @@Immortal__ that sounds like a reasonable plan, maybe push to 2.5g bar or 1/10 coin every other month if you can't do every. Only buy what you can afford to keep if you are in it for the long term you don't want to have to fire sale a year later to pay the bills. You can sell your Gold back to bullion dealers, on eBay, gumtree, precious metals forums, jewellery shops, Facebook groups, you won't be short of buyers in 10 year's time.

    Can I purchase PAMP on eBay the seller has 50k good reviews?

      Hi, if the research shows like you say they look reputable and they've been trading for years I can't see a problem. Perhaps order small amount first and see if that arrives ok.

      Stick with bullion dealers. One bad deal on eBay will erase any savings you thought you were getting. Jm bullion is my favorite but I also use apmex

    Only thing bad about 1 gram -5 gram bars are the spot price and some are ridiculous ! Any gold is better than no gold at all.

    1g of gold cost twice more than an ounce of silver.
    I believe 1g of gold is equal to about $57.
    1kilo is $57k... in 2 to 3 years if the gold price doubles then your gold is worth $100k+.

    why does every stacker keep that awful plastic film on the package?? I take mine off.. am I still going to be able to sell it without it??

    • @TangibleLife
      @TangibleLife  3 года назад +1

      Hi Richard. I prefer to leave the protective film (and all original packaging) in tact as it adds another level of confidence to buyers that the item is not counterfeit and (the Gold) has not been tampered with in any way. It's not the end of the world if you have removed the film but I would leave it - I appreciate it looks a bit naff, but you have to think of the endgame and buyer confidence in your item.

Once I had done this I was over it and never felt the need to open any again. I also have a Gold and Silver coin to fondle this gets me over touching coin purchases too!

      I bought 10 1gram bars and I’ve kept the film on 9 of them. I just HAD to take the film of one. Too tempting. As the man says if we want to resell them the buyer wants them to be as a good as new.
