While recording this, I was trying to allow myself to ramble and share any thought that came to my mind. However, it's concerning when I review this footage how frequently I had a thought in mind that I wanted to share, then lost my train of thought before getting to where I started from. Examples of this: - Discussion of how my rewrite and the original come from a similar origin, but how the rewrite isn't the original and isn't made by 1:1 copying its code from some type of disassembler tech. I spiral away from the topic and don't get back to finishing exactly what I was trying to say - The mention of how "in my mind there are two worlds" with the leaked debug symbols. The idea here is that I would either (1) not use them at all, or (2) use them and ultimately be seduced into using them so extensively that it would be the end of Warsmash. Instead of describing what 2 worlds I was referring to, my mind wanders off to other topics. - Probably other examples further along that I didn't review yet. In light of this, I'm going to bed. I hope everyone is doing well.
I am actually not very familiar with the grubby tournament -- I do not watch all of Grubby's content, but instead only a small smattering. Do you have a link to more information about the bug you are referring to?
@@TheShorka "Got the bug" is an idiom meaning, to feel the urge. This person is saying that after watching Grubby's VoDs (?), they felt the urge to play/watch WC3.
This was fun to listen to, you should do this more often. I am working on my own RTS, and I love how relatable it feels with all the small little issues you point out.
You are inspiring me personally to do my own stuff. Thank you. My point is: while being almost totally not understood by other people, bringing to the existence your own overcomplicated ideas and mechanics that are becoming usable and viable over time is... so vital. You just see the thing at its whole scale - while many other people just can't do it. It's my impression on your curious mind. Because they can. Best wishes.
Good question. If my next video continues that storyline, in your opinion is it a better storyline to have Arthas and succubus Jaina sail around the great seas on that pirate ship taken from the scarlet crusade until they eventually land in the Blasted Lands and use the Dark Portal to travel into hell in the Diablo games and play Diablo and war3 at the same time, or is it a better storyline to have an AI meeting of an AI parody of all the modern Warcraft 3 personalities like Grubby and Wtii and other folks sitting at a table and discussing the future of Reforged, only to have Arthas and Jaina warp in like dreadlords and yabber at them all?
@@TheShorka The two are very different. Both can be good it completely depends on the writing. The reason I'm leaning for the Diablo one is because for the second one everyone has to keep up with all the content creators who they are and why are they important have to watch enough of them to get their character and the jokes. So the Diablo one reaches more people.

It would be great to have an alternate version of wc3 that takes 10 times the amount of units fighting on a map to make the game lag hard, and one in which creating a cool custom map is much more easier and much less bug-prone
It would also be great if someone sent me a check for five million dollars. But until any of that stuff happens, I will probably make an alternate version of wc3 that takes 10 times LESS the amount of units fighting on a map to make the game lag hard, and in which creating a cool custom map is much much difficult and much more bug-prone. Because I am just one person having fun.
You are the future of RTS, your Java rewrite is 10x better than any RTS since Starcraft 2. Stormgate was terrible, the CnC remaster is super basic...your stuff is not all we got but also the best we got and a really good job
@@zzMrP You're probably right, GCs don't usually run on such specific triggers, they're more periodic. Unless the heap is full, and I'm sure that's not the case here. And loading an asset does make sense.

Don't be hard on yourself. This is an amazing accomplishment, especially as an (mostly) solo project. In 20 years warcraft 3 will still be playable and it will probably be thanks to you, since god knows blizzard has been trying to bury it for ages.
but let's not depend on it. If I accidentally find myself in a car accident tomorrow and I lose all my brain cells, it doesn't make sense to have warcraft 3 die in that case. So it would be nice if Brad Chan's team does a good job, maybe hopefully for custom games as well as versus mode...
the people that told you that this project was a bad idea have a certain perspective that your time spent doing something that doesnt immediately benefit you is a waste of time, which is fair enough since time is the only thing you got but it also tends to suck out all the fun. sam hyde once hypocritically called modding video games a waste of time despite it being a hobby that develops a much more valuable and admirable set of media skills than his own hobby of lifting heavy things up and down
I know people often say that trying to monetize your hobbies is not always a good idea, but I wonder. With the progress you've made with Warsmash, wouldn't it make sense to make your own indie RTS? Like a spiritual successor to Wc3? You could find people eager to make assets and storylines for it. There is Wargus which remakes the Wc2 engine and someone used it to make Wyrmsun. So they were allowed to make a game based on a Wc2 reverse engineered engine. Though they did release it for free with an optional paid dlc for dev support. I wonder if you would be allowed to release a game that uses file types and langauges Blizzard invented like mdx, w3x, jass. Even if you rename these extensions, I'm not sure if using the same formats is allowed.
There are new RTSes that are released (or to will be released) this year that seem like (stand-alone) spiritual successors of WC3. Their mechanics are not 1:1 copy of it, but they do get the same vibe, control system, theme, etc. The best of those are: 1. The Scouring 2. Godsworn 3. Age of Darkness
How is this cursed? I am looking at this at it looks exactly 100% the same except for the smoothness and camera... It's... unworldly... I can't believe it's not the same WC3
I guess if I had to say why it was cursed, I would probably defer to the fact that I was meme-ing about it online from roughly the time it came into existence: ruclips.net/video/J7EmTjB7rXs/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ZRq34ykmgaQ/видео.html Prior to this I wrote my own strategy game that has no online presence, no online following, no place to buy or download it, and that almost nobody has ever heard of. It was my own IP made for my own satisfaction. I would say... that one is not cursed, because it was made for playing with my people in my social groups, and for the honest fun without being social-media-brained.
I watched the entire thing and the thing that bothers me is that you didn't merge other peoples work into your version. Really gives away a feeling that you don't care about this project, because man that that thing is gold. Imagine having another human work on your project for free.
I have merged other people's work into mine on multiple occasions. There are 22 merged pull requests from other authors on GitHub. If you are referring to the 3 unmerged pull requests currently sitting, one of them was from a user who suggested it might've been their first time using Git tools at a time when Warsmash was changing fast and there were a bunch of conflicts. One of them is from a person who showed signs of not playing Warsmash, but rather running an autoformat on some of the code in order to earn GitHub kudos points for authoring changes, despite the fact that Warsmash was created with an autoformat technology which didn't match the formatting they chose. And the third is from someone who was rightly frustrated that Warsmash should have a better readme for new users, and then as a new user they wrote a readme that is wrong in a few places and suggests how to use Reforged with Warsmash even though Warsmash is no longer compatible with Reforged ever since the August 19, 2022 patch to Reforged which changed the format of all 3D assets in the entire game. I apologize if this is not clear to the authors of those 3 sitting pull requests, but: - I would be willing to merge the PR from the author who is new to Git if it was updated not to accredit lines of code written by me to that author, and if it merged latest Warsmash so that it wasn't 3 years out-of-date with merge conflicts - I would be willing to merge the PR from the folks who did nothing other than mass autoformat if they use the same formatting as what I was using when I created Warsmash, and maybe also showed signs of doing feature changes to the code - I would be willing to merge the PR from the person who wrote a Readme if it didn't suggest people to use Reforged and was perfectly accurate to helping new people, but this PR is likely superceded by work that I did after I saw that PR to make my own Readme using my own knowledge Focusing on the 3 unmerged PRs instead of the 22 merged ones seems unfortunate to me, though. If your concern is the abilities that didn't work in this video, those didn't work because I broke them on the particular computer I was playing with -- it's more complicated than not merging them. They read from settings files, as an effort to define abilities external to the game, and I was trying to make a technical decision to read from JASS instead of the JSON files provided by the contributor. That, coupled with an out of date JSON, messed things up for this specific video. But the updated JSON is on the GitHub, so if someone clones Warsmash today they're going to have those contributor changes included.
Keep at it man, your work is much more important than people think.
