The river of lost soles. The last few mud larks got stuck in the muck and lost their soles....always a pleasure seeing this mother/ daughter team
"that will go with my leg collection" sounds like something from a serial killer movie
Things you only hear from mudlarks and psychopaths.
When I heard her say that, so brightly and happily, I laughed out loud.
@@daveh1294 hahahaha
@@susanbdusan2785 me too!

"If you just stop in one place and have a really good look, things just kind of jump out at you"! Life Lessons 101 by Alex 💙
It's not every day you hear the words "That will go with my leg collection"!
QXYTZ 😂😂😂
You two have rapidly become one of my favorite channels to watch. My youngest and I have come to think of mudlarking as a perfect mixing of dumpster diving and antique shopping.
Sadly, the US Pacific Northwest has nothing similar to offer in adventure.
Ha! An elusive leg! We find heads and arms but sadly never any legs! I want to make a monstrous doll! So many beads, I absolutely love beads, like you I want to string them together to make something but I am far from necklace length... more like a very very small dolls bracelet haha. Fantastic video as usual! :) K&C
You're always so lucky with heads! We never find whole dolls heads! Mum got me a random collection of dolls legs for christmass haha, so this one will go with them very nicley. And a hiddious mismached doll would be so cool! I didn't realize how exited I got over those beads at the time; I don't know what it is, I just love finding them! 😊 Gail & Alex xx
@@NorthernMudlarks We found some beads today on the foreshore and I got very excited too (although mine are tiny haha) :)
The necklace made from the clay pipe stem is wonderful...it is amazing to see something that had been discarded perhaps a century ago...be turned into a object of beauty..Gail & Alex create alchemy..lol.. C
I love watching the jewelry you and your mom make! Would love to see more fines made into amazing jewelry!
I love Gail's hat and boots as well as her talent. She has great insight for re-purposing objects and a steady hand for the task, I love the pieces she makes. Alex (I think is your name), I absolutely love your filming technique. The music, volume, focus and steady hand makes your videos worth the watch, it's like watching a well done high quality documentary and I appreciate that. I enjoyed seeing the finds and the excitement of the experience. Great job to you both and I can't wait for the next video. Ann
Well said. I absolutely agree.
I very much agree, A Layne.
The necklace almost looks like it says Cutey Pie. So cute, she did a lovely job.
"Two beads and a leg, I mean, come on...what more can a girl want."
LOVE IT! :)
Alex’s excitement and pleasure in finding a broken piece of junk is so refreshing. It always puts smile in my face . I never found such happiness in someone after finding a broken piece of bottle or a torn shoe etc. For her sake I keep on praying let her get a whole bottle, an unbroken clay pipe etc .
Priceless mother/daughter time. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. 😊
Favorite part was the jewelry making, little item found turned into such a cool piece.
Aww, thank you so much - I enjoy making them! xx
Beautiful necklace ❤️!

But the one with "Cutty" written on it is preceded by the letters "rns" which could be "a Burns Cutty Pipe manufactured by Duncan McDougall of Glasgow between 1847 and circa 1891"

I adore your mudlarking adventures. What a treat. Thank you for taking us along 😁
I would love to go there and beach comb, bottle hunt, or hunt for amazing stones. You ladies are absolutely lovely.
Won't ever miss my Sundays of your videos. I dream of going mudlarking in Scotland someday. From sunny Florida, USA
Aww well we hope you enjoyed it this week! Thank you for coming along once again 😊 Gail & Alex x
I just found your videos. Looks like fun. Greetings from SW Florida.
Greetings from Gainesville, FL. Enjoy watching your adventures and finds!
Greeting from Jacksonville Fl. It seems that tonight you are very popular from all parts of Florida USA
Joy, I feel the same, and also from Florida USA. My son and I went to Scotland in 2019. My ancestors are Scots and i felt peace when I was there, and a connection i have never felt before. Gail and Alex bring Scotland home to me here with your videos. I watch them over and over. Thank you ladies for all you do.
I just love watching you two. You are both very talented. I would love to do the searching for treasures! It looks so relaxing. 💕
Love watching you design and craft your treasures! ♥️
The round brass piece looks like it could be what was used for sprinkling a table cloth or othe piece of linen while ironing the wrinkles out.
That sounds like a great theory! You're probaly right! Thank you for that 😊 x
how would it be used? To what was it connected, etc.?
Susan Bdusan it would have been attached to a bottle filled with water. If you google “ironing sprinkler bottle” you can see some examples. I haven’t seen any exactly the same, but the theory is sound.
I thought it was used to make tea
I thought it might be for watering seedlings, I've seen pottery versions. You immerse in in water, put your finger on the hole on top and lift it out and release over your seed tray. Not at all sure though.
Lovely video, as always! Gail, I'm impressed by the amount of care you put into your jewelry - sanding and polishing and so on. Great work!
Lovely video ladies. The information about the bridge builder's pipes was interesting to hear, then the treat at the end watching the pipe fragment being turned into a beautiful piece of jewellery was a joy to watch. Thank you.
Aww, thank you so much - glad you enjoyed it! xx
Excellent a cup of tea and 37 minutes of pure joy.
Oh yes, can't forget a cup of tea! Thank you for coming along. Gail & Alex x
Show us your leg collection sometime. Interesting variety I imagine.
Beautiful atmospheric filming Alex, and lovely to see Gail's jewellery skills? I treasure the opal ring she made for me, and cant wait for new things I can purchase 🌍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌍
Thank you, I'm glad you like the ring! xx
Thank you for taking us on your new collecting adventures. Your mom is a very smart, lovable woman whose artistic work I really appreciate and you both have a good eye for interesting and beautiful things. As always, I'm looking forward to your next video.👍☘️🤩💫
Lovely finds THANKS FOR SHOWING YOUR ART 🥰

I admire you both, you save the forgotten treasures from the passed. And the amazing jewelry and things you create is so beautiful. You both are so amazing, I love watching you hunt for forgotten treasures.
The quote of the new year, "Oh my god! It's a little leg! . . .That'll go with my leg collection." I love your enthusiasm. Such a marvelously beautiful necklace as well!
hehe xx
@@NorthernMudlarks As an anthropologist, who studies material culture, I really need to see this leg collection. I can only imagine the shoes tend to chip, or the top of the leg. It would be interesting to note the distribution of legs as well. A little silly and a little social sci-ency as well. Can't wait to see more!
Enjoy your videos so much. Very relaxing to watch and listen to. Lovely voice and I love the music you add to the video... not to mention I learn a lot about old relics! Thanks to you both for creating such great work!
Thank you so much! xx
Not even a minute into the video and I already love it! 😍
Aww thank you! xx
Very interesting! Love seeing what you do with the items. Much work into the necklace, pretty.
Thank you! xx
I love that wooden dish you display the finds on.
Lovely video! Really beautiful village and bridge scenes! Si-Finds post from today also had a doll leg! 👍
Thank you! South Queensferry is such a cute place and the bridges are very photogenic! xx
Love your finds. The best sea glass I've ever found is an entire Pepsi bottle! Beautiful perfect bottle from the beach in North Topsail Beach, North Carolina.
I live in New Bern, North Carolina. My dad got me into hunting for antique bottles in the 70s when I was growing up. I wish my mom could have done something like this mudlarking with me when I was growing up, but sadly she had no interest in it.
Another great adventure with wonderful and interesting finds, a very enjoyable video indeed. Nice work on that pipe piece by the Mum there! All the very best to you both!
Sat at home bogged down with flu, but this has cheered me right up. Only recently found your channel, but it has become my regular Sunday evening unwind. There's just such a simple joy in what you do and when you find something most people would overlook, you take the time to research and explain, and I hope inspire others to take up this fascinating hobby.
Aww, hope you feel better soon! Thanks so much for joining us on our adventures! xx
@@NorthernMudlarks Thank you for giving us the opportunity to join in!
Yay, Eagle Eye Alex spots a tiny bead! All I could spot were bits of sea glass😄
I love that you call them stopple boppers.
Sitting here in Whangaparaoa with a cup of Yorkshire Tea watching two of my favourite mudlarks on the River Forth, deep joy, a perfect evening, thank you again ladies.
I so look forward every Sunday to my mudlarking adventure with my sister-friends Alex and Gail 🤸🥰!!!
Your enthusiasm Alex, over your finds of the various beads and the tiny dolls leg was precious. You had me smiling 😊 and giggling right along with you 😁😆.
And Gail, what a fabulous necklace! Such a touching tribute to the unknown hard worker who last used and touched that pipe before it came into your talented hands. Well done 👍👏. 🙏's for you both in your travels, may you always be safe. And much luck in your search's and finds. See you lovely ladies soon 😘.
Hi Juliet! thank you so much - it's so lovely of you to sent such a warm message of support! We love having you join us! We always think of our RUclips friends when we are mudlarking! Take care, Gail & Alex xx
Alex's excitement in this whole video was so cute and wholesome
Lovely ladies another great adventure
I just love the enthusiasm don't lose it. Xxx 🇮🇲
You ladies never cease to amaze me with all of your found treasures and the beautiful things you make with them. Wishing you continued blessings for many more successful mudlarking adventures.
Love love all the beautiful things!- So exciting to find such history!!!
The round brass knob might be a sprinkler head or a fountain head, maybe a tea steeper. lol it's a curiosity. love your videos
Nice up-cycling of the pipe stem Gail.! 👌 Really cool
I like everything about your show s
N Mudlarkers, When you two speak it's like music to my ears, literally. Very melodic and soothing to my soul. Love, Love Love this channel!
Love all you’ve found , can’t wait for the next trip tfs xx
Great finds! Always a pleasure to watch your adventures. You both are very genuine kinder spirits and talented.
Aww, thank you so much! xx
Great video ladies...great finds too....love the necklace that Mom made....I could listen to that music all day.....good on ya girls....GL and HH from Fort Myers Beach,Florida....
I have just watched Si Finds latest video and he was with a visiting Alaskan couple and one of the first items she lived up was a doll's leg just like your find . Unbelievable that two videos after one another you both find the same items ,but very far apart. Thanks for the videos cheers Ty
I love the way you do the intro together; finishing each other's sentences and nodding in agreement from time to time...and of course Alex's beaming face. Don't know why I don't simply watch the same video over & over, but just have to see the same faces on a different day...glad to see Gail was in a smiley mood too. How many legs before Alex's reaction is "uhh, it's another leg"...like what happened to Mr White's clay pipes; but the quote of the day: "How lucky have I been; two beads & a leg". xmas present sharing must be something to behold.
Lovely mudlark Ladies. Thanks so much.
I beach comb up here in the north east of Scotland. I would love the opportunity to go beach combing with you both in the future. I'd happily travel down to you xx
Great finds. Love the history most of all!! It's so interesting. Thank you for doing the research.
We love delving into the history of the places we visit and the things we find - it's why we mudlark! xx
The whole marble you find reminds me of ours in the 50-60's. We called the Cat Eyes.
Gail...Unbelievable piece of jewelry, made from pipe-stem and your silver handy work. Beautiful!
Thank you so much! xx
Another great video..👍😄
i am so happy i found this channel, when the weather allows me and my mom are going on our first mudlarking adventure 🤩
That's fantastic! You will have to show us what you find, on our Facebook page - we would love to see! Good luck! Gail & Alex xx

Hi thanks for your quick reply! Please give me first refusal if you decide to sell it! I find it just fascinating. xxx
I love how the Cutty Pie necklace came out! Good Job!
Recently had a baby (3 weeks ago today) and I finally get to catch up on your videos. Thank you for making my day, ladies. :)
Now your little one is 4 😃
It's fun to hear you talk about everything as if you fond a $100.00 gold piece. You & your mom are appreciative of the simple things of the past.
Lol Love the bloopers!! Great finds & love the necklace! 👍🇦🇺
Thanks for the latest film ladies! :) Alex - you are SO funny! You get so excited over two old beads and one doll's leg! Your future boyfriend/s will have a very easy time taking you out. You are potentially so cheap to run! ha ha

Fantastic ladies once again and the most beautiful jewellery made from the pipe 🙂

I love that you have a leg collection. Tee hee. 😄
Thank you so much for taking us on your adventures!😊 I enjoyed your jewelry making!
I absolutely love your videos! I always end up going to bed late as I can't stop watching them 😁
Hi Gail & Alex,
I'm a retired environmental geologist living in the U.S. (Utah). I wish we had as much history lurking in our mud as you now have in yours. Maybe ten or twelve more centuries. Great videos. Great finds. Beautiful and creative jewelry.
Gail, you're correct in the identification of the old brake pad. It has the characteristic shape and size, even though the material attached to the metal plate has been highly distorted. Nonetheless, here's the rub: Many, if not most, brake pads of this vintage were impregnated with asbestos. (At least, here in the States that's the case.) Consequently, it may not be a good idea to keep it as a treasure or use it in a project. I certainly wouldn't cut into it or attempt to remove portions of it. Even simply handling it too much is not a good idea. The bottom line is you don't want to create dust or particulates that can become airborne and then be inhaled. If it's currently intact and isn't crumbling apart you shouldn't have to worry. If you haven't already disposed of it, I would suggest placing it in a heavy-duty plastic zip-lock bag, then completely wrap the bag with a strong tape, something like shipping tape or duct tape. A public recycling and/or hazardous waste collection facility is your best bet for disposal, if you have one available.
I know such a thing sounds like a bummer and maybe even a bit of overkill. But just one small asbestos fiber inhaled and caught in the lung can do some pretty nasty stuff down the road. Best to err on the side of caution. I just want my favorite mum and daughter mudlarking team to keep on collecting and creating for many years to come. Happy future hunting!
We will dispose of it responsibly, thanks for your concern xx
Im from Turkey and ı love this channellll. Nıce to meet you Northern Mudlarks 😍
Hello! We are so happy to hear that 😁 Thank you so much for coming along with us! Gail & Alex x
Taking a small plastic snap lid box or large pill bottle with you to put smalls in, like the beads. Plastic bags tear so easily. Nice finds.
Very creative on the necklace.
The history of the broken pipe parts was quite interesting.
If I might suggest- drilling the hole in the copper before cutting the circle out makes it much easier to make the hole without the chance of it spinning and slicing your fingers.
The ball with the holes does look like a sprinkler head. I think it is a bit large for laundry though. It may have been on the end of a metal pipe connected to a hose used to water high hanging baskets or sprinkle the garden. I also think it was too big for a watering can, based on the old ones I have seen.
🌼🌼Beautiful storytelling in your vids and music accompaniment!! This seaside was a bead wonderland! Wishing you both a marvelous week!!💐🌼🌼
Hi, I see the rivers there are like the rivers here, they have a lot of 'Leaverite' rocks, as in ' Leave it right there'. Take care and enjoy everyday !
Also I like the background music, the beginning music I really liked.
What a beautiful string of beads you will make once you have all of the beads needed. The collection is growing! It would be nice to string the clay pipe pieces together too.
Absolutely awesome. You think a cowboy in Texas could get away with wearing one of those necklaces. I love them. 👍
Is it possible to go to old city records to find out where dumping used to occur? Might help you target your mud larking. Some great finds today!
Great idea, I have done that, and have found amazing bottles..etc.
The older dumping was usually done not far from the town center. These dumps contain mainly coal ash, so finding ash in the ground is a key sign
I always keep an eye out for areas with nettles, elderberries, which thrive in ash-filled soil.
Is that an old baby rattle..?
Wow.. The "cutty pipe" necklace is amazing. .
Thank you! xx
Another great video ladies, thank you for sharing. The neclace is fabulous Gail.
Thank you for coming along Jan! x
I absolutely adore your videos and enthusiasm! I love mudlarking and I especially love a place with a nice variety of finds! You have inspired me to start recording my treasure hunting trips. Thank you both x
The tray that your finds are on, is lovely!!
As always fascinating and exquisite videos. I wondered what you did with the clay pipe bits but you anticipated my question. I giggled at the bloopers.
I love to see you make a beautiful ring made from the 1/2 pink marble. I’d buy it in a New York minute!!
Some very nice find's ladies! Love the blue glass you find from time to time..
A treat as always, beads and marbles I love finding them to LOL, that dolls leg was a nice find as well, another addition to the leg collection LOL. Another lovely spot to hunt to it looks very much like the river Tamar from Cornwall into Devon. It's really enjoyable to watch some jewelry making as well that's really nice to see, especially the end results a piece of history turned into a work of art. Many thanks again.
Really nice finds! Thanks for taking me with you! TFS Hugs!
I am on the replay and love every treasure and find just as much..although I must admit, I missed this one in the frey somehow. Love ya!
