First verse is a thank you to Mark for being in his life, second verse is a thank you to the band members for being part of his family, and the third verse is to their fans for continuing to be supportive in spite of the lockdown and no concerts/appearances.

This song came out around the time my wife passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. For me, the song is a 'Thank you' to her for loving me and being a part of my life for the 20 years we had. It makes me cry every time I hear it, but I love it just the same.

The Pentaholic Nation basically wept in solidarity when this came out. It could mean so much to so many. It made me think of my 3 kids, who got me through not only the pandemic, but also a job change after 14 years and a bad breakup and the return of crushing depression, all in 2020. Such a gorgeous song, and still so relatable.

Pups are Scott's goldendoodle Bubba, and Kirstie's Floof and huskies Olaf and Pascal.
I believe that Scott also wrote "Light in the Hallway" as a lullaby for his nephew. He said he could just hear Avi's voice singing it as he wrote.

Such a meaningful and beautiful song! That "but you and I should probably stay inside" gave me full body chills the first time I heard the song. Such a poignant song to release at that time. You can tell it was written from a very genuine place. Many times when Scott made the introduction to this song live, he got choked up talking about "thinking about that person that makes you feel safe and special". Just beautiful.

Such a GORGEOUS song 😍 Yes! Scott is a BRILLIANT song writer.
    Several reactors cried!
Fact 1 - Scott wrote this on his birthday 2020 with his then boyfriend now fiance Mark ❣️
Fact 2 - The first pup featured is Scott and Mark's baby Bubba.
The little pom kissing Kirstie is her pup Floof and the 2 Huskies are hers as well. The white one is Olaf and the brown one is Pascal.
Fact 3 - The people on the TV are random folks, you can see people in masks, a drive by celebration, home schooling ect...
Fact -4 The first Thank you is for Mark, The second is for his band mates, the third is for the fans.

I don’t think you commented on the fact that this magnificent song is not performed acapella.
Scott’s lovely piano and Kevin’s velvety cello added so much to this. The use of both was so purposeful and well-integrated that at first I didn’t catch that this was the biggest difference of all from their usual performances.
I’ve watched/listened to this countless times, and it still brings tears to my eyes. Sublime.

When I first heard this song i was recovering from Covid. I had decided to stay home on Christmas just to be safe and not possibly infect my family. My niece made a huge plate of food for me and brought it to me (thankfully I'd not lost my sense of taste) and told me not to eat until she called me. When the call came she told me to open the zoom link she sent. They had set up several cameras around the dinner table and I got to have my Christmas dinner with my family. It was that night while watching their RUclips Christmas music that I first heard this. I cried like a baby.

The perfect song for the tough year that was 2020. So many people lost so much, and others had a lot to be thankful for.
I know I was grateful for Pentatonix putting out music and videos in spite of everything. Their music was something I looked forward to after working long hours running a grocery store trying to keep my people safe and customers fed. When they made the videos for this Christmas album there were still no vaccines and hospitals were still full.
Cried pretty hard the first time I heard it and it still makes me tear up.
There is a fan video that was made to this music. It showed some of their fans and reactors thanking Pentatonix for their music that helped them get through 2020 and other life challenges. It made me ugly cry.

Not a fan, I'm afraid. The "Jingle Bells" references are very on-the-nose, and the composition is so boy/girl-band generic (from this songwriter's perspective) it makes my teeth grind. The vocal harmonies are undeniable, though, and the lyrics have some special moments.
