In Thailand, Scams, confidence tricks and rip-offs are very common in the tourist, because many people are poor. It not like America (America is a rich country), America has a large and diversified economy that is relatively resilient to economic shocks. This has given the America an advantage over competing countries through difficult economic periods, helping to create wealth and stimulate growth across a wide range of industries and sectors.
How can she said there is scam in America. She also don’t have proof. In Saudi if you dare to say like this, you will arrest immediately.

Awww sorry about your experience! It’s definitely good to do some research about the place you’re going to before going there, it’s normal to check the weather and do’s and don’ts. NY is def a BIG tourist attraction and esp in Times Square, they try to take advantage if you don’t seem like a local, there’ll be a bunch of peeps in costumes telling you to take a photo with them using your own camera and then charge you a ridiculous amount, and no law that says you need to cough up whatever amount they demand from you! Hopefully next time you visit, it’ll be more fun than your last one🙏🏽😊
