After watching the last episode I got even more respect for Alyn he doesn’t want anything from Corlys he grew up without a father in the streets most of the time seeing his father who didn’t even look his way and still wanted to serve him
It’s honestly a very different situation but I would say it showcases the differences between the women all the more starkly and Catelyn looks all the worse. Yes Catelyn was much younger but she was not in love with her husband. She was not even engaged to him originally. She knew him for a few nights and had been married days when he left and apparently “fathered” Jon snow. Rhaenys and Corlys were thought in Rhaenys mind to be a love match. That they loved each other from the start. Corlys also hid it from her which is worse in that he led her to believe he was faithful and their relationship was what it was. Rhaenys has much more reason to hate Alyn on principle than Catelyn has to hate Jon. But Catelyn doesn’t hate Jon really she’s scared and that’s what makes her the lesser person. That she allows her fear her entire life dictate how she treats a child
This scene made me like Rhaenys even more. She knows who Allyn is, knows how he is Corlys' son, but still she treats him with so much respect. She gets angry with the one who is really to blame, Corlys.
I don't know if I would call that respect. She was in utter shock that she was seeing a man who looked just like her husband once did. She's seeing a ghost
Pretty much agree. She has been taunted with her nickname as "The Queen who never was", loved her family so very much, not just husband and her 2 kids, but Viserys, who often didn't see the bigger picture. She truly loved Corlys, (her nursing him back to health, a conversation from earlier in the season when they were in bed and that lovely little scene in the previous episode, giving Corlys food in the rain, and honouring her husband's illegitimate sons, even at the point of just finding out about them. And complimenting them, with the comment about how their mother must have been beautiful. I didn't really care much about her in season 1, (except when Vaemond lost his head and tongue at Daemon's sword), but I think she really stepped up with season 2, which then reminded me of how much her character was pretty much honourable, wise, and loving, just keeping those moments private. Besides which I still don't think she had a chance against both Aegon and Aemond on Vhaegar. She bowed out and sacrificed herself, with grace and honour. RIP. Rhaenys and Maelys.
She does, she's an awesome character. Then again, IIRC, for noble families during that era, it's very common for their lord husbands to take up lovers and have natural children (albeit lowborn children). Most of these marriages are arranged so most of them don't grow love for each other. It's different for Corlys and Rhaenys since they did grow to love and care about each other. For the wives, it's not surprising when their husband keep lovers and their natural children, what's surprising for me is how Rhaenys didn't mind Corlys honoring Alyn and raising him up. That's the part that's different. Most noble women (wives/mothers) would feel that this would be a threat to their trueborns (Catelyn Stark, I'm looking at you LOL), but keep in mind, Rhaenys's and Corlys's children are dead at this point and only their grandchildren were around... so she might feel with the war, it might be necessary to keep family closer together rather than apart.
@@tracys169my thoughts exactly. She didn’t automatically hate him for being her husband’s bastard. And actually commended him for saving his father. Also she probably realizes that it would make her a hypocrite since the first Baratheon was the bastard brother of Aegon the Conqueror. With Catelyn Stark, she seemed to have forgotten that many bastards of house stark were extremely loyal to their trueborn siblings, and House Stark had a history of caring for them and having them grow up in Winterfell.
@gabesarti7184 that's probably because Catelyn is a Tully from the River lands and not a Northerner like say lady Barbary Dustin; a Northerner would have known that Starks always keep their kids close, loyal and united.

And thus, lamented her fate as having never fulfilled her great destiny. Hence, she chooses the path of a warrior and a warrior's death in battle. Instead, she stays in the battle, and continues to engage, knowing perhaps that it was a battle she would not return from.

In the book, these guys don't get introduced until after Rhaenys dies, meaning I thought she never knew about them. But the fact that she did and she encouraged Corlys to bring them forward... just phenomenal
She was neither insecure, nor petty, nor jealous. Slightly envious, but neither angry nor vengeful. She chastises her husband for not giving Alyn his proper accolades for his duty. “He should be raised up and honored, not hidden away” She could care less what others think. What a true wife, what a true woman. So different from the character Catelyn Tully/Stark.
@@vangu2918 Unlike women, a husband cheats with his body, not with his heart. Which is why husbands almost never leave their wives for “the other woman”. His heart is always with the woman he married, unless she makes him so miserable that he simply goes. The character Rhaenys obviously understands Men, knows her husband and knows his love is with her and no other. Which is why she chastised him for the treatment of his bastard son. Ned purposefully kept Cat in the dark which is why she disliked Jon, the majority of her dislike came from Ned's refusal to tell her who Jon's mother was. If you want to be angry at someone over that situation, blame Ned. I love Rhaenys as well but Catelyn had a normal emotional response to her husband cheating on her and forcing her to live with the product of his infidelity. Also it's a bit odd to dislike Cat over being mean to her husband's bastard but love Rhaenys who trampled multiple innocent people in the Dragonpit just to stare down the Greens.
Rhaenys should have been queen. If she was then I'd wager this war would have never taken place and the Targaryen house would have had a chance of survival.
Nah, pretty sure people like Otto would have still tried to worm their way onto the thrown. While she would have been a decent ruler, she probably would have had to put down a few lords who “would spit on their ancestors before kneeling to a woman”
@@hydraman246 Maybe so but I doubt she would have been as docile as Viserys and tried to please everyone or played favourites. She would have been an impartial ruler. Doubt it. She was denied her birthright for the same reason Rhaenyra was denied hers. Different woman but still, a woman lol. They would have found a way to plant seeds of chaos.
A nice change from the book which only had testimonies from characters who didn't know what Rhaenys knew. Everyone assumed Corlys kept Alyn and Addam away to avoid angering his Targaryen wife or her dragon. Nice to see she was both aware and accepting of them.

Rhaenys is very dignified and graceful. She shamed Corlys without saying anything really and he bristled, calling her thoughts an inquisition. So prideful and unwilling to admit to his mistakes... to his utter downfall. What a fool.
This is where i get A LITTLE upset with her character, she knows she's needed to protect the grandchildren, yet she decides to pretty much die at rooks rest. She could have burned them all in the dragons keep but chose to fly away, Aegon was hurt badly! She could have flown away and reported back and been helpful still. Man, team black lost a good elder and dragon
I would like to say that there’s a lot of factors that go into her arguably flawed decision making. The key one being that the three most important people in the entire war are there: The king, his hand and the prince regent. If she can kill Vhagar then the war is won. If she can seriously injure Vhagar then the war is won. And there might not be a better chance than now to get Vhagar because the Hightower host along with their forth dragon is on the March and their third dragon is still in kings landing with Halaena. So I can see why she decided to risk attacking them. Also meleys is an incredibly strong dragon and arguably could best Vhagar in a fair 1 on 1 however of course she is bested by a very sneaky Vhagar attack so maybe not. Plus I mean it’s pretty damning for the blacks’ war effort is their first battle ends with one of their strongest dragons running away (even if it is the best move tactically)
Realistically I think rhaenys knew she wasn't going to survive that fight, meleys may be the fastest dragon but she had also just gotten out of a fight with sunfyre meanwhile vhagar was well rested and didn't have any injuries. Meleys most likely would have exhausted herself trying to escape while also dodging any of vhagar’s attacks. At best I think Rhaenys was hoping to injure vhagar enough to incapacitate her so someone else could finish the job.
I think that while flawed, I believe that she believed even if she died hurting/maiming/killing Vhagar, at least, the war can be won for the Blacks and her family would be safe in her sacrifice.
In the books, Rhaenys didn’t know of Corlys’ bastards and she went to battle to protect her grandchildren, otherwise they would mount their dragons and fight themselves
I feel like none of this is worth the loss of life of family and of dragons. I would rather let that c$by just be king and still have my sons and all the other people and dragon that will be lost. Yes it’s not fair and infuriating but oh well.
Rhaenys realized she got Catelyn’d 😅 lol but jokes aside, she handled that really well, staying composed when many women in general would've acted more aggressively.

Rheanys sees Laenor in Alyn. The fact she reaches for his face leads to believe that she whishes she could hold him if just for a moment. Any other clinical psychologist will tell you the same.
Al ver cómo ella tomaba este tipo de situaciones, incluso tan personales; te puedes dar cuenta que ella hubiera sido una increíble reina (En lugar de Viserys). I'm a bit confused here. Are Addam and Alyn Corlys's? I thought they were Laenor's because Corlys doesn't have dragon blood. Wasn't Rhaenys the reason the Velaryons got to ride dragons? Corlys himself said his family wasn't dragon riders.
@@Krovos_ Not all Valyrians are dragonlords. House Velaryon, Celtigar and Qoherys do have Valyrian blood but they don't have the dragon blood. They cannot ride dragons. The only explanation would be their mother has it.

Rhaenys for the win. I feel like that, considering what she said. Its implied that if Corlys had told her about his illegitimate sons when they were born. She would of accepted the boys as her step sons and raised them alongside her own children. And even if she got rightfullu mad at Corlys for cheating, if he had been honest from the start, Rhaenys would of forgiven him. Way better wife than Catelyn Stark ever could be.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl And that's the thing, they shouldn't be punished for the sins of their father. S p o i l e r Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: Still yes lol. Alyn of the Hull (and Addam, his younger brother) are the sons of Corlys with Marida of the Hull (a shrewd tradeswoman with multiple ships and a sailor herself). In the book, Corlys claimed that both Alyn and Addam are Laenor's sons (but it's a known thing that they're not, they're Corlys' love child(ren). Not trying to justify what Corlys did, many nobility in that era had arranged marriages. Most of the lord husbands have other women on the side (as well as um, 'natural children'). Corlys was not that different than these people. There were stretches of years when Corlys was busy at war (away from Driftmark, while Rhaenys stayed put to take care of business). Rhaenys obviously expected that Corlys might find some temporary respite (in this case, Marida of Hull, whom he has 2 sons with) for those years but she never quite bothered with it since you know, it was pretty much the 'norm' for the husbands to not stay monogamous...And true to the norm, Corlys didn't intermingle his trueborns with his .... 'lowborn' children. Heck, Rhaenys in the book, didn't even know their existence (allegedly). Rhaenys is pretty special/different since she actually encouraged Corlys to not hide his lowborn children, and to even raise them up. Meanwhile, Catelyn Stark didn't feel secure with Jon Snow, not because he's a 'bastard' but it's more because he was raised amongst the trueborns. Catelyn was fearful that one day, Jon would assasinate his own half-brothers and take over Winterfell. But she can't go against Eddard's wish to raise Jon in their household.
I mean he looked older than Laena and Laenor (And yeah I know the actors and character's ages don't match) but it looks like Alyn happened before Laenor so, maybe they just started courting? (for those who are Corlys and Rhaenys shippers/fans) but yeah she was definitely much better at handling that than Catelyn was. In fact Catelyn should have taken some notes.
In the book, Corlys claimed Alyn of Hull and his brother are Laenor's sons (bastard sons), BUT, we all know Laenor couldn't have children and was gay. Although the rumor is both Alyn and Addam are Corly's lowborn sons with Marida of Hull. I'm excited to see her actually (Corlys's lover, his other woman), she's allegedly, this shrewd business woman and a good sailor too.

Ok for the record: yes, Rhaenys was better than Catelyn in how she treated her husband’s illegitimate kids with respect buuuuuuuuut: I think TV Cat is a bit more complex. She’s cold to Jon but because she can’t bring herself to love him like a mother she holds herself back from giving him hate because deep down she understands it’s not his fault how he was born (allegedly) and dislikes herself for not being better. This is shown in how she, while very emotionally distraught, bluntly asks him to leave after he says his goodbyes to Bran. I think thats the best she can do much of the time which isn’t great but it’s understandably human. But book Cat? GIRRRRLLLL shut the @&$” up with that “Jon? It should have been you.” BS. You’re gonna be mad at Jon for something he can’t control but STILL ride your hubbies meat even tho it’s really HIM (allegedly) you should be mad at??? I'm wondering if it's as cut and dry as "He cheated." The sailor looks around the same age as his half siblings. This may have been in the very beginning of their marriage or just before. Before love and loyalty began to form in their betrothed marriage.
Seriously, why does she keep supporting Rhaenyra after what they did to her son? They are just using her and don't care. That's why they had their granddaughters marry Rhaenyra's sons. goddammit I'm gonna miss her, what an amazing woman. Queen that never was? my ass, she was a queen the day she was born.

She chastises her husband for not giving Alyn his proper accolades for his duty.

Ned purposefully kept Cat in the dark which is why she disliked Jon, the majority of her dislike came from Ned's refusal to tell her who Jon's mother was.
I think that was the Targaryens biggest mistake was thinking having a woman rule their house would have been wrong.
Different situation completely: This is Corly’s actual biological son, whereas, Ned Stark pretended that Jon Snow was his son to protect him from Robert Baratheon’s wrath if he’d found out that Jon was Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen were his parents.

Short answer: Yes.
They’re rich, powerful men. They all cheat. Eventually.

I am beginning to think the GOT and House of Dragon universe is all about Bastards.
It is dado that those which are not recognized hold the greatest of poise in their unnaceptance. Such is that of Jon Snow and similar Targaryen blood.
Her hair should be black
