Jimmy Carter was POTUS when I was born. Now he is the oldest living ex-president. His philanthropy and heartfelt humility looks effortless and I watch his character as a blueprint for sincerity, honesty, integrity, happiness, genuineness, frugality lifestyle, and "don't talk about it, be about it!" mantra. I believe Jimmy Carter was an excellent president. He's a nuclear engineer, which means he approached problems with logic and reason, not bluster and ignorance. His Crisis of Confidence speech is one of the best speeches in that he tells truth, he doesn't peddle party rhetoric. I think with that speech he scared the plutocrats and oligarchs to such a point that they did everything they could to assassinate his character and presidency. I admire this man for his courage, honesty and justice.
When he was in office I was a child but do remember him.as a adult and reading and seeing who and what he is and stands for,to me he was a great president.he did so much good but didn’t feel the need to boast,unlike what we have now.he didn’t have to say he is a Christian,his actions showed it.no one is perfect and we all fall short,but you can’t deny the man has gave his life to help his fellow man. If I could sit on a park bench and talk to just one person,it would be him.

Jimmy Carter may not have been a good president in many people's eyes, but he was definitely a good man. And there's never anything wrong electing a good man. We usually need good leaders as Presidents, but sometimes we also just need a simple good man. Good leaders will always come by but good men not so often. I think for that period (1974-1980), America needed the good men that Ford and Carter more than just a good leader.
Politics aside, Jimmy Carter is a good man. I personally feel that is a lot of the reason why he is considered a poor President. Unfortunately, to be the leader of this Nation, you have to sometimes be a little dirty to get anything done. Its sad, but its true.
@fraizer57, you seem to have a gross misunderstanding of the shah's record in iran. he was initially progressive, but he became increasingly despotic and maintained a healthy number of political prisoners. most of his opponents in the 70s were progressives, who brought the revolution to a close by advocating democratic elections. ironically, the iranian populous didn't vote them in, instead voting for a theocracy because 92% were illiterate and encouraged by their imams to vote for khomeini.

I admit I don't agree with him on everything but I respect Pres. Carter for his humanitarian work and knowledge on pertinent issues.

Carter could have backed Kennedy's health plan., which is what we have now. Carter is good but not correct on this point.
