    3-hr permit pickup (BS), tough access, cold and rain, and a hook in the foot! What a start... but a good meal and good friendship fixes all. Lovely drone shots in the creek and an excellent start to the series

    • @KevinOutdoors
      @KevinOutdoors  3 года назад

      Yeah we weren't impressed with the drive to get the permit. One would think that in times like this we could resort to e-mail. Todd too one for the team there even enduring the parks orientation session. He had his own company that did forestry layout. He did well to hold his tongue while they explained the meaning of three whistle blasts when we know there was virtually no one in the park. 😛

    We were planning on Quetico this September, but ran out of time with the border opening so doing the BWCAW instead. Nice (sparing) use of the drone. The shots you chose were very colorful. Some RUclipsrs overdo the drone footage. Enjoyable to watch this video.

      Thanks Kurt, Hopefully the border will open up in July. it was a great opportunity to visit that corner of the park when it is less busy but our tourist operators really need to have their customers return. I appreciate the comments regarding the usage of drones. I took a lot of video of the falls, hopefully I can maintain my restraint in Part 2.

    I just started your video.
    I haven't done the falls chain for about 20 years.
    You need a bigger canoe. I recommend a wenonah minn3 or Northstar 20'
    Can't wait to see where you enter. Far east saganagons?
    You must have a nice camera.
    Bright pic while cooking steak.
    Good job wearing life jackets.
    I have been to the east end a few times. Always early June . We had great topwater bass fishing with Rebel teeny pop-r cast right next to shore.
    I have camped a few times on that island. We did well with the bass north and west of there
    I think my brothers largest smally was caught just above the first falls. We never stopped for very long below any of the falls except for the last one.
    It is scary above the first falls.. especially at high water.. we once saw a wolf there on the portage.
    Still going barefoot after picking up a hook?
    We flipped after the first falls coming back up. We tried paddling up stream to shorten the portage. Its the only time we did not have our life jackets on.
    Drones are not allowed in the BWCA. Quetico?
    But they sure gives great views of those canyon falls
    I have your smaller stove. Love it.
    Just two videos?
    I need more:)
    Oh, I see number 4.
    And now 3
    We fished Cowa Bay.
    An eagle followed us all the way there. It watched us catch a bunch of small walleye. My brother eventually tossed one up on shore for the eagle. The eagle was heading down before the fish was airborne.
    Waves only look half si-e on camera. Last spring my brother and I waited 4 hours before crossing Beaverhouse. We should have waited longer.
    We did have some great topwater fishing among the islands.
    I also know that last campsite you were on.
    Ooh Silver FALLS. I have been over that many times but have never seen the bottom of it.
    Too steep to safely climb down at the beginning of a trip.
    Yup. That short cut to deadmans portage is too shallow. Be careful on the slippery sloped rock. My brother hit the ground there with the canoe. And someone blew out there knee there.
    When water is lower at Silver Falls. You can hop out on those rocks. Those big logs are still there.
    The spring of 2022 the water was much higher. And the leisurely paddle across that current would have been treacherous. We had high water way back when and was pushed up against the north wall. We had to do a back bend to get under a branch..
    If you have any great fishing spots you would like to share in norther quetico park. I could trade with you some great spots on saganagons.
    Nice videos. I am going to send it to my brother

    Great series Kevin! I really appreciate all of your videos. Well done and informative. I spend a lot of time in the BWCAW as well as Quetico, Wabakimi and Crown Land when the border is open. For what its worth, while I find the drone footage beautiful and dramatic I cringe at the thought of drones flying in the wilderness areas even with park permission. I would really like to see them restricted to crown land only and let's keep the wilderness the wilderness. It would break my heart to encounter a drone flying, legally or illegally in BWCAW, Quetico, Wabakimi, Woodland Caribou. I truly believe you can do the great video work you do in those areas without a drone and not diminish other's experience. I just throw out my opinion as something for you to think on a bit. Again, thank you for the work you do. Best always and perhaps our paddles will cross some day! Cheers! (PS-I am sharing basically the same message with Jon at lost Lakes)

      Thanks! Yes, we did have to drive 3 hours to get the permit. Normally there is an entry station in that part of the park but due to COVID it was closed. I am a little cheesed that they couldn't e-mail us the permit. Not the best customer service.

    Nice, I really liked the drone shots. Do you need approval prior to using it in a provincial park?
    And the wind is always there.

    • @KevinOutdoors
      @KevinOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      The use of drones in provincial parks is controversial and I put an explanation in the description. If you ask the parks people they will say you need a permit. But, if you read the legislation and regulations it is very ambiguous. The legislation only speaks to 'aircraft' and oddly you can take off but can't land without a permit. Federal legislation governing parks is specific about 'drones'. Furthermore, Ontario Parks hasn't taken the steps necessary to make the airspace above the pars 'restricted', the National Parks are all restricted airspace. Bottom line, if there is anyone around I don't fly - in a park or not. And I never use my drone in a way that would bother wildlife. On the trip we saw several eagles nests, that would make excellent RUclips footage but it would bother the nesting birds in breeding season.

    Hi Kevin. I was looking at getting into Cache Bay myself here soon via access from Northern Lights Lake. Did you consider this area and work you recommend it?

    • @KevinOutdoors
      @KevinOutdoors  Год назад +1

      I have been considering doing a trip into Quetico from Northern Lights for some time. It would however make the trip a day or two longer on either end due to the distances needed to travel. Saganaga is also a pretty big lake and there is a chance you could easily get wind bound.

    I think you may have ran into a couple who also posted their June 21 video on their RUclips channel. Goes by the name of FishermanBoyle. The funny thing is that it works exactly like that if you are going to Wabakimi so they have the technology they just choose not to use it. I get it, they want to funnel people through the entry stations, but if they are closed they should provide other options.
