I also like how neutral it is with its protagonists; their goal is not to save beings from catastrophes nor to stop the Abyss' tyrannical reign: it is to continue their little adventure to the final layer and achieve the title as the white whistle! Also, if there was a joke in the elevator ride, good one! (but also sad one.)

Pretty sure Cave Story was one of the big influences; the amnesiac robot boy with a giant laser cannon (Spur), the rabbit-like humanoids (Mimiga, especially with a human turned into one like Nanachi, Sue), the strange underground world filled with strange creatures and items, the incredible danger the children are in at all times, the amoral scientist (The Doctor), etc.
Good idea, but it's too soon for that kind of edit. If you know the manga, you know what will happen in last episode. if you not... better prepare yourself, for real battle ;)
