- Do NOT make this MISTAKE when it comes to kitchen island placement!
.
One of the most common mistakes people make when putting in kitchen islands: putting the cabinets too close together.
.
While it may seem like a good idea to maximize your storage space, this can actually hinder the functionality of your kitchen.
When the cabinets are too close together, it can be difficult to open the drawers and cabinets fully, making it hard to access your kitchen tools and appliances. It can also make it challenging to navigate around the island, especially if you have multiple people working in the kitchen at the same time.
.
To avoid this mistake, make sure to leave enough space between your cabinets and the island. A good rule of thumb is to have at least 3 feet of clearance between the island and any surrounding cabinets or walls. You will want at least 4 feet is you have a sitting area. This will allow for comfortable movement and easy access to your kitchen items.
.
So, if you're planning on putting in a kitchen island, remember to give your cabinets and drawers some breathing room. Your kitchen will thank you for it! #kitchenisland #kitchenremodel #kitchendesign #kitchenmistakes #interiordesign #homedecor #homeimprovement #interiordesign #kitchenstorage #functionality #homeowners #remodelingtips
Also get the counter depth fridge.
Then it would be even better 👍🏻
Or you can have a recessed area in the wall behind where the refrigerator will go that allows you to fit a standard refrigerator as though it is counter depth
Came here to say that. Looks ridiculous
Good point though. My kitchen is spacious, but not good dimensions for an island so better to skip it.
Great video. We just moved our island out to 40" from the counter and fridge. Nice and roomy now. 👍👍👍👍
3ft aisle width is insufficient to be able to bend down and retrieve items from the base unit cupboards. I would recommend 1250mm (4' 1") but a minimum of 1100mm (3' 7"). Conversely, for an efficient kitchen all the work spaces should be within two paces (6ft) of each other. Too many kitchens are far too large due to misplaced aesthetics and require too much time spent walking around.
Yes!!! And if your tall, Make your cabinets 36 in tall. I'm 6'1. My husband was 6'6. I'm so glad we made our countertops 36 in. Tall. Go a little higher with your top cabinets so you can get your taller appliances on the counter like your KitchenAid mixer. Unless you really like picking that heavy tank up and down out of the cabinets
What’s bugging me a whole lot about that kitchen is the refrigerator. Get counter depth refrigerators. That one sticks out like a sore thumb.
Exactly what I was going to comment on. That doesn't look appealing at all.
When you have your oven at your kitchen island, just remember that you must be able to stand infront it and take a turkey out of it, without being cramped :P
I needed this information!! Thank you so much!!
Point noted👍
Also don’t forget a few wall cabinets 😅
36” days a too narrow in the majority of designers opinion. So much so that I’m shocked you’re suggesting it’s okay. 48” months a standard with 42” okay if nothing opens up between them like a DW or fridge door. 36” is…okay for an RV kitchen.
Crys out in 1950's galley kitchen with 26" doors at each end.
I noticed that you do not have vent for the stove in this video,, your thoughts, I have same situation but feel I need if sell down the line, thanks
He’s very naughty. Thanks
What about using 24” panels for a regular depth fridge… big mistake or doing an under-counter microwave which is not a drawer microwave and is not built-in bad mistake
Don't forget that is from face of cabinet. So 36" it functionally 32".
I have mine @42" func. @38". It's fine when I'm in there alone but if anyone is in the kitchen with me, I wish I had went 48". Also don't forget the fridge sticks out. So either recess it if you can, get a counter depth or compensate for it with an additional 6".
My husband wanted an island and I said no because we don’t have the space. The island would just be in the way.
48 inches minimum in the work area. 36 inches is terrible.
Code is 40"
Noted :D
It should be 4’, not 3’!
36 seems fine until you realize that you are sitting in a chair right now watching this vid, and your seat alone takes up like 20. Imagine only having 12 more inchess to back out...would suck. 48 in is what you want if you can get it, if not 42, and only 36 if you absolutely desperate.
So over islands !!
Like your advice but not that loud, scary, drama sound . . . very scary.
Instead of feet, can you use fraction of a football field as unit of distance? Or easier, metric units like metres? 😂
I get the football field, for the metric system go back across the ocean
I hate islands.
Islands and bar counters are tacky. I'd rather leave room for a decent-sized table and chairs. It's much more versatile.
Unfortunately many newer build homes have poorly designed dining areas which leaves poor flow through for dining & many people are choosing to utilize an island for seating instead of having a table.
