I cruised on QM2 last December and I had sheltered balcony cabin on deck 5. Didn’t used much my balcony but it was nice to pop in time to time. I’m sure you have wonderful time on board. Queen Mary 2 is a stunning ship and the scenery in Norway is absolutely beautiful. Enjoy!

Thank you again! I travel solo, and have booked 3 QM2 cruises in the "single" cabins on deck 2 & 3. Deck 3 has 2 full size windows and deck 2 has only one, but they look like small hotel rooms😊 I like to be able to look outside and see the ocean without going outside. So, it will work for me. And when I'm going it will definitely be cold so you won't see me outside only to walk.🥶

Oh, you managed to get a single room on here - well done! I called to try and get one of them for my cruise later in the year, and they said they sell out SO quickly for the transatlantic routes - good work!

@globaladventurer I travel solo, I've so always wanted to do a transatlantic crossing on the QM2. The fact that I'm solo drives me nuts. If I'm going to drop the dosh for this, well I DO WANT a balcony. 😊❤😊 It's a one time opportunity.
I'm from the u.s. I'll be in Ireland for 2 min nths. There is a QM2 sailing from Southampton a week after my scheduled departure from Dublin back to the DC Metro.
The Cunard price on sale with a single traveler in a secluded balcony is $1711.00 transatlantic to NYC. Easily the cheapest I've seen for solo.
It's still a stretch. Cancel return flight from Dublin. Set about a few days in England (that's ok though, have friends I can stay with) once landing in NYC figure a flight/ train to DC and then a ride from om DC an hour to home. That's a lot...❤😰😰😰

How did you like the room (and voyage)? We have never been on the QM2 but am thinking of making the westbound Atlantic crossing this September for my 60th Bday. @@edbreyer loved the room and the trip. My only caution would be a reminder that you cannot sit on the balcony and stare at the ocean because the railing is too high, but it provides great light in the cabin and an exciting view of the ocean along with bracing fresh air. Enjoy.

Great video. I've been lucky enough to sail on QM2 before, and I really love the sheltered balcony cabins. I've given some longer comments to someone else's thread, below. The one piece of advice I like to offer anyone making their first trans-Atlantic voyage is to TAKE A JACKET! Even in the dog days of summer, the mid-Atlantic gets cold and stormy, and you're really going to want to get outside and walk around for some exercise at least a few times during the week. You'll enjoy the experience much more if you're not freezing while doing it!

    • @SuiteNatured

We had two large cases, and both fit comfortably under the bed, and we'd imagine the carry on's would too. We had a small rucksack carry on, and that just went either in the wardrobe or on the sofa as we used it quiet a bit, but it would have fit under the bed easily

Currently watching this video while onboard Queen Elizabeth, and the thing that annoys me most about my cabin is the fact it’s a fixed shower head that I don’t fit under(…!). Interesting to see it’s not the case on QM2 - I’d expected this to absolutely be fixed given the age etc!

Take a look at the Practical Ship Tips video we did for QM2, the navigating around the ship tip is really useful, and would take us too long to explain here ;)

So if you went for instance for a week in a sheltered balcony (same as we had) on a transatlantic, not in the school holidays, then you'd be probably be looking around £700 & £1000 per person per week. I've had the privilege of crossing the Atlantic both ways (round-trip, 15 nights, very lucky!) on the QM2, and we had a sheltered balcony cabin on the fourth floor as well. We're traveling across the Atlantic again next summer, and have once again reserved a sheltered balcony cabin, this time on the sixth floor. I absolutely LOVE the sheltered balcony cabins. As you mention, you are protected from some of the harsh elements that happen when crossing the ocean. However, I also appreciated the privacy these cabins offer. I noted when walking the promenade deck (deck 7) that the open balconies and the upper decks (8 and up) are fully visible from the promenade. As I'm taking my daily stroll, I'm looking onto people's balconies and even into their cabins. I'll continue choosing a sheltered balcony where none of that is possible.

The view is definitely more limited Ann but it's that pay off for it being more sheltered and quieter and in our experience usable in rougher weather than a more traditional balcony. But in a sunnier climate we would choose a regular balcony too.
