Hank looked more at home on the PF than he did on the recumbent a few weeks ago. Well done Hank, willing to go where no other GCN presenter dares to go! 😂😂
Bravo. I doubt I could ride a PF 50 feet before crashing. There is a father/daughter duo, Randy and Amy Oleynik, that rode their Penny Farthings across America. 3314 miles. 😲.
Well done. In the States, we call them Ordinary bicycles. I have friends that ride them in the Hotter'n Hell Ride Hundred in Texas in August. I think they do 100K. One of them tells me whenever he rides people always ask him two things: How do you get on? "Carefully". How do you get off? "That's personal."
Wonderful video. When you think Hank has done everything, GCN finds a way to up the game. Well done Hank. Love the scenery. Was a bit concerned in a few parts, especially after watching Conor's segment on Road Rage.
@GCN~Trying to kill Son-of-Hank's-Dad is NOT a corporate mission statement! It is nerve-shattering entertainment though. Probably the scariest 'real-life' ride I have ever seen on the Tube. SO thankful you survived...a testament to your riding skill.
Bring that to Iowa the last week of July and ride that thing across the whole state with me and about 20,000 other cyclists. It will be fun I promise! 😂
Loved this adventure Hank! My favourite part was when you were riding through the town and all the people with their phones out. I'd love to see the POVs from the people along the road watching lol!
I put pf in the same bag as fixies and unicycles... They are all majestic! They are so complicated for any kind of diverse terrain cycling. They all definitely have a place in competitive cycling and they are all fun in casual cycling
Having ridden both a restored original and a reproduction penny farthing, I understand the attention you get. The restored original was so much harder to ride to the point the reproduction was almost nimble.
I've done the CarTen100 five times and on each ride I've seen a pink penny farthing, with its rider wearing a CarTen jersey. The CarTen100 is an annual charity ride from Cardiff to Tenby covering 108 miles.
Hank must loathe that he had to do this for GCN, as it would've been more apt as an ad for his manor. Btw, thanks for the fact-checking; because he rode clipless, make sure that next time he'll be on powermeter pedals. We want to now how much power it really takes to climb with a penny farthing!
Since you seem to be as mad as a hatter, you might just as well have worn the top hat all the way. Brilliant video. Made us all finish with a big smile on our faces.
In the day, 1888, a friend’s grandfather and 2 of his friends rode a Penny-Farthing from New Orleans to Boston for a meeting of the League of American Wheelman. They rode 2000 miles in 30 days. His trip was on a Rudge bike and the trip was followed by The Cyclist magazine. On arrival, the 3 men were given special medals engraved with their names and the feat’s details. The roads were so muddy and rutted that they rode quite a bit on railroad beds. Hank, want to try that challenge? I forgot to mention, the Marin Museum of Bicycling, in Fairfax, California has the medal awarded to Harold Fairfax, one of the 3 riders. What a grand adventure!
When I was in Australia in 1988 I was told that a guy was cycling around Australia (15 000 kms ) on a penny farthing. He had 2 two days on me so I figured I had plenty of time catching up to him. I was taking the same route on a more modern touring bike. Well.... I never caught up to him. I was doing about 100 kms a day which with my naivety at the time couldn't believe he could be so fast. I couldn't find how much a day he was doing but I know that two years prior he did 512 kms in 24 hours on is penny farthing so he must have done long days. Back then I didn't know how serious this guy was and it's only years later that I found out how committed he was. Is name was Phil McDonald and he got into the Guinness book for both these events.
I’ve ridden in England a few times with friends, mostly in Devon. It’s beautiful there, but the hedgerows block your view for the most part. A penny farthing would help out a bit.
Remember when GCN thought they couldn't kill Hank and Mark Beaumont said, "Here hold my whisky, I will give it a shot." I think you should do the same again. Hank and Mark on a tandem penny farthing anyone?.
Well done Hank! Looks like this one was a lot ore fun than the last go :)
Thanks for the love!
It was nice to see Hank acknowledging the peasants as he rode through the villages!
he does have a manor lol
@@rogersimmons8788 I'm sure he would have spat on them were he not on camera.
😂
Quoting a line from Mel Brooks movie - " The peasants are revolting! Yes, they do smell!"
Change ‘the’ for ‘his’ x2
Do you want to see Hank take on another penny farthing adventure? 🤣
Didn’t Hank say he would do it on a uni-cycle, which would he be quicker on?
London to Paris maybe........think that might break him 🤣
Not had Mark Beaumont on for a while, I'm sure he'd be happy to ride with Hank up Bealach na Bà 😂
100 miles charity ride maybe?
Perhaps a top 30 Strava KOM finish... Any hill of his choice
"as aerodynamic as Connor Dunne" 😂😂
"i dont think the penny farthing was made for hillclimb"
Time to prove that wrong by putting Andrew Feather on one
The random group ride was spectacular.
Lands end to john-o- groat .... World record next on that bike Hank!
Hank looked more at home on the PF than he did on the recumbent a few weeks ago. Well done Hank, willing to go where no other GCN presenter dares to go! 😂😂
The replacement was called the safety-bike for good reason.
Lovely to see Swindon Wheelers pop up in the video, great club to ride with!
Hank actually looked stylish with top hat
10:05 Can't wait for that episode!
* steps out of alley way * "Ah sh*t, here we go again"
How about 50 miles on a boneshaker then Hank? Just kidding 🤣🤭
It just HAD to be Hank that took on this challenge... amazing!
Manor house, top hat, penny farthing?
Yep, it’s gotta be a GCN Hank epic. ❤
Bravo. I doubt I could ride a PF 50 feet before crashing.

I'm amazed to see you on a penny farthing after the last time Hank! I just can't believe the crazy stunts you end up doing on GCN - massive CHAPEAU! 👏
"good show, chap!"
Feels like something one should say anytime they dismount a pennyfarthing
Up next: Hank does Paris-Roubaix on a unicycle.
Awesome! The surprise for me was that riding a penny farthing turned Hank into Matt Stephens! The joy in that laugh 😊🤣
Hank, you are The Man! After what happened to you on the velodrome, doing this is absolutely epic. Good show!
Hank takes on some right challenges! What a great spirit!
Interesting how Hank is so comfortable on a Penny Farthing and such a mess on a Recumbent. Well done Hank.
Def got a tons of smiles from me!! I know Penny Farthings aren't exactly easy to ride, let alone ride 50 miles in one go. Great job Hank!!
A great site to see and you dismounted safely and unaided AND mostly uninjured this time!👍 Thx, Hank 🎄
Good sport! At least you had a decent seat this time. Love the modern touches - nicely shaped bar with bar ends.
That was wonderful, I find my self wanting one. No hills lol thanks hank and gcn. Happy hollidays, great show.
I saw an old gent riding one around Beckenham this morning. Chapeau
Incredible Ride & Super Fun video :)
Bring that to Iowa the last week of July and ride that thing across the whole state with me and about 20,000 other cyclists. It will be fun I promise! 😂
Would have liked to see how Hank got on and off of it.
Dude that's risking the old chap so close to your wedding ;)
Thanks for doing this Hank!
And thanks to the great editing and sound!
Needs aerobars and a disc on the back.
I heard Hank say he'd rather do it on a unicycle. Next vid right the me thinks. 😂😂
Hank you are an absolute legend , I think you and Mark should do the NC500 on penny farthings
Thank goodness for that curb cutout. I was waiting to see Hank bunny hop back onto the road, and didn't think that was a great idea.
Loved this adventure Hank! My favourite part was when you were riding through the town and all the people with their phones out. I'd love to see the POVs from the people along the road watching lol!
0:56 For aerodynamics, the Victorians clearly took inspiration from sprinting T-Rexes.
I foresee a 20 minute GCN Tech video of Hank testing a LOT of saddles before agreeing to do this ride.
Impressive to see how the Penny Farthing quells road rage. I didn't see one person mad about being held up.
thank you editor for the sound in the beginning. We all remember THAT video of Hank trying to beat the 1h record.
Well done James, who else but you would do something this ridiculous. 😊
gravel penny farthing - wow!
Had to be Hank! Brilliant!
AND....you need to upgrade that sucker , Carbon frame and wheels , tubeless , disc brake , the works ! Come on lads !!
the man, the icon, the legend, thank you Hank
Watched this in one go. Glorious video :D
I put pf in the same bag as fixies and unicycles... They are all majestic! They are so complicated for any kind of diverse terrain cycling. They all definitely have a place in competitive cycling and they are all fun in casual cycling
Great adventure on a historic bike! 😊
Love these wacky ideas, chiefly when it involves Hank. More please!
Good to see you avoided a "crowning".
I'll take that as a win! 😵💫
Having ridden both a restored original and a reproduction penny farthing, I understand the attention you get. The restored original was so much harder to ride to the point the reproduction was almost nimble.
Great work Hank
Hank, you are a braver man than me! Great Video!
Well done Hank. Go for the 100 miler!
So happy Hank is still a GCN presenter since his new found responsibilities at the manor. Do we now call him Lord Hank?
I've done the CarTen100 five times and on each ride I've seen a pink penny farthing, with its rider wearing a CarTen jersey. The CarTen100 is an annual charity ride from Cardiff to Tenby covering 108 miles.
What's the lands end to John o'groats record? Just asking
Some genuine laugh out loud moments in that one.
The ultimate kom record that no one will break
Awesome job Hank
Did Hank just name his next challenge? That same 75km trip on a unicycle?😊
I would love to see a century on the penny farthing.
Of course it's Hank. Poor guy always gets the craziest challenges
well, you got that off the bucket list early in life
Hank must loathe that he had to do this for GCN, as it would've been more apt as an ad for his manor. Btw, thanks for the fact-checking; because he rode clipless, make sure that next time he'll be on powermeter pedals. We want to now how much power it really takes to climb with a penny farthing!

Anything thinking what I’m thinking? Andrew Feather doing a few hills on the penny Farthing 🤣
I would like to see the list of things Hank has refused to do.
Way to go Jimbo!!
Yes 100 miles on gravel and some real tough mountain bike trails, perhaps some jumps, maybe even a half pipe.
Fantastic. I want one now!
@7:51 7a in Fairford! A great cafe with absolutely superb brownies (available on mail order too).
Hank should do a show on how to make a penny fasting more aero????
'Twas most enjoyable to see Lord Hank of pain and grit head out for a jolly on his steel steed.
I was surprised to learn that modern Penny Farthings existed.
You just know that as soon as Hank said he'd rather do that ride on a unicycle, the producers knew the next challenge!
James had a FANTASTIC idea for his next EPIC ride -- 50 miles on a unicycle!!!
What must the crosswinds be like that high up. Another great adventure from Hank.
I am inspired to try something ridiculous like this.
Hank is risking his giblets and all again for our entertainment. Out of the way peasants!!
The front wheel drive channel.

Now this shows how dedicated you really are as a long distance cyclist 🚴♂️!
When will the 'We try to kill Hank' BlueRay Box be available?
Loved it 😀
Hank: "I'd rather do that on a unicycle". videographer: "did we get that on video?"
Really don't think I can think of anything worse to be clipped into than this.
Hank, spending a day in Conor's shoes.
LOL Hank you’ve out done yourself again. Well done and glad you made it alive. How on earth did you get on that thing?
My wife's great grandfather did 10,000 miles on a penny farthing
Surprised to see Hank ever getting near one of these bikes again 🍒
I’ve ridden in England a few times with friends, mostly in Devon. It’s beautiful there, but the hedgerows block your view for the most part. A penny farthing would help out a bit.
Next: is penny farthing better than gravelbikes? 😂
Does Lord Hankington ever worry that he might become a stereotype?
Love it though 😂
Remember when GCN thought they couldn't kill Hank and Mark Beaumont said, "Here hold my whisky, I will give it a shot." I think you should do the same again. Hank and Mark on a tandem penny farthing anyone?.
Well done. Fortunately Hank was not on the "onion" crusher saddle 🤣😂
Tour of Britain needs a Penny Farthing special stage
Finally Hank and the penny are back! Glutton for punishment. lol Now use this for your wedding!
