  • @AnanasVert

    Sooo I looked up the "sound of true fear" because what a gloriously absurd concept and it's apparently really a thing? It's a 19hz frequency, and since human hearing starts at 20hz we can't hear it but we do perceive the vibrations, which confuses the hell out of our brain. Ain't that neat!

  • @RainWelsh
    @RainWelsh 6 лет назад +43

    I think my favourite thing about Andy and Jane getting spooked is their shared instinct to respond by yelling a semi-relevant word. “Argh, darkness!” “Argh, membrane!” Bless them.

    Science time! There is actually a sound of primordial fear. But it's a sort of infra-sound; low frequency noise just below the threshold of human hearing. You can't hear it with your ears, but you can sort of detect the vibrations through other methods, so your body is subconsciously aware of it. It's been tied to feelings of fear, unease, distress, and is believed to play a role in the perception of ghost hauntings and the like. It's also a frequency lions make, so its presumed to have its roots as a partially-developed method of detecting predators in cave-man days.
    Yay, science!

    • @mar_speedman
      @mar_speedman 5 лет назад +4

      But if that's true, wouldn't it be a *bad* idea to wear headphones while playing this game? If they really use that sound, headphones don't exactly have subwoofers to play them. And where are you gonna feel he vibrations, anyway? In your ears?

    "They're not Decapitated, their heads are just really bloody"
    I mean, why can't the be Decapitated, INSIDE the Body bags Jane? The Body bags would keep the heads nicely positioned inside, so no-one would know. It's the perfect Crime! Wait, no... They'd still get me for murder... Damn, should've thought of that before I... did absolutely nothing, at all. Honest.

    Sound of fear, isn't that infrasound? 19hz. Suppose to mess with your head and vision. Some believe that is why people see ghosts or things just at the corner of their eyes

    I was mildly surprised to search Victor Tandy & discover that the “sound of fear” is a real thing (though I didn’t see any indication he called it that). I was much less surprised to do a little additional searching and see that most consumer speakers can’t reproduce sounds in that range. For the obvious-when-you-think-about-it reason that there’s no need for ordinary speakers to be capable of playing sounds outside the range of human hearing (especially if those sounds tend to trigger panic attacks).

    The guns sounded different because they were. The first one was a glock which is a 9mm. Then Andy picked up a colt m1911 from in top of the crate, which is a .45 calibre pistol.

    The cyrillic at the start was магазин (magaziin) which is russian for shop :) (Since learning Russian I can't play/watch games which use cyrillic to show things are Russian without getting annoyed, but this game is actually using real Russian so it's cool :) )

    The sound of fear is actually a real thing. It is low frequency sound lower than 20 Hz. Anything lower than 20 Hz can't be normally heard by humans but the vibration can still cause physical reactions.
