Being Australian I am already well familiar with cone shells and blue ringed octopus'. Australian kids are usually educated about animals like this at early ages due to our internationally renowned, deadly environment and wildlife
What is it with Australia being perpetually cursed with literally everything, including environment, government, and your animals?
I remember nat geo wild made a show just to cover Australia's venomous species....
In north America it's generally safe to eat mushrooms, my friend who grew up in the UK was similarly warned against mushrooms, because there are toadstools there that are lethal.
North America is just generally safer than the rest of the world, so theres a lot we take for granted when travelling.

Fun fact: Octopi, Octopuses, and Octopodes are all _technically_ correct plural terms, it really just depends on who you're talking to. Some believe the term Octopus is Greek in origin, others believe it is Latin, and the rest prefer plain English.
Octopi is considered hypercorrect on wikipedia afaik
Anyone using Wikipedia for any kind of knowledge is a bafoon. That's a trash site with info written by anyone.
The three plurals for octopus come from the different ways the English language adopts plurals. Octopi is the oldest plural of octopus, coming from the belief that words of Latin origin should have Latin endings. Octopuses was the next plural, giving the word an English ending to match its adoption as an English word. Lastly, octopodes stemmed from the belief that because octopus is originally Greek, it should have a Greek ending.

I agree
I think the pretty rule also refers to frogs. The prettier ones are the ones that you need to watch out for.
Also the size. Heckin' poisonous/venomous ones are generally smaller. Same for scorpions. The smaller they are, the nastier they become.
If something is pretty and colorful in nature, don't eat it or touch it. Pretty and colorful mean poisonous

I think all beach areas should simply have a educational warning board that shows and explains what certain dangerous creatures to avoid
Once on Jacksonville beach in Florida I got too close to a Portuguese Man-O-War because I was trying to figure out what the beautiful neon blue plastic looking thing was. Not only does cone snail venom vary between species, but it also varies between individuals and it can even vary from shot to shot. They can alter their venom like changing socks. It's literally impossible to make an antivenom.
Treatment is basically keeping you alive while you wait for the toxin to wear off or just get removed from the body.

When i was a kid we went on a vacation to the us. I was just playing at the beach when I found a very pretty shell under the sand. There was a snail inside and i played with it for hours, in my hand, in a bucket or in the water, didn't really matter. When we had to leave I put it back into the ocean even though i wanted to keep it.
Where we live there is nothing dangerous in the water, except leeches and some mild jelly fish once in a while so I didn't considder a cute little snail to be so dangerous. I was pretty lucky that day.

"Octopi" may be incorrect because it's applying a Latin suffix to a Greek word, but "octopuses" is merely the adoption of an English suffix since the word is being used in English. Octopodes would be the proper suffix since it's a Greek suffix on a Greek word, but since words become accepted by being used wrong until they're right, at this point all three are acceptable.
As an aussie based in Queensland thank you for educating people about the wildlife. So many tourists fall victim each year. They may now not ignore the many signs all over the place warning of these thing’s.

I don't know how people still dare to go to the outside world in America, the mere idea terrified me with the amount of loonies with guns and knives
We have anti-venom for pretty much everything. That and anything that can sting you is going to try and run away first. Those venomous and poisonous creatures don’t actively hunt people down to try and sting them. The worst thing that could happen at the beach is probably a shark attack but those are rarely lethal. Australia is a pretty safe place to live. I’m glad we can go camping without worrying about being mauled to death by a bear, wolf or mountain lion.
Why does everyone thinks of Australia as some kind of survival horror, lol.

You can have one of its relative as a pet/pest snail killer, it's known as the Assassin Snail (clea helena). They are a freshwater snail that feeds on others snails but if no snail is available they will eat leftover fish food, or auwfachs on biofilm that grows on any surface like rocks and the other aquarium decor. They hunt snails with a harpoon that envenomates their prey.
Oh! I had one of them. They are kinda cool 😎

The venoms of cone snails are being investigated for medical use. One thing missed out in the video is that some cone snails also release insulin like chemicals into the water when hunting, this knocks out the victim making it easier to catch.

I'm confused, how is the innkeeper worm dangerous to humans? I googled it, and found an article saying they're harmless to humans. I also found another article that said they live in China and should not be confused with a similar animal that lives on the west coast of the US. I've lived in so cal my whole life and have never heard of a dangerous beach worm.
No, that was an example of something neither cute nor dangerous. The lesson being that because something is pretty doesn't mean it won't f*ck you up.

This would have been great to see four months ago, before I had one in my pocket for over three hours. I only didn't get stung because I got curious about what kind of shell it was, looked it up and then noticed that the snail inside of the shell was still alive. 4:10 Konwa, the Crab-eater Snail, as we know it back home. (much larger and its' venom is far more potent but will avoid bipeds/much larger potential predators by slithering into the sand from its' shell)
There's a lot of sea creatures back home that whilst gorgeous, are absolutely a viable threat, like, the very large carnivorous starfish that can and do go after bipeds. If one of those attaches to your leg, you're done. Of course, there's many a land animal that could just as easily devour you, and yet, it doesn't happen that often.
Moral of today’s video, stay informed about the world so that you don’t get taken out of the world census.

As someone who has crossed the Atlantic Ocean, The Baltic, Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea, I feel I can say with some confidence, that I absolutely LOVE the Ocean, (especially as long as I’m safely aboard a ship)
Although I have tried jumping overboard in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, just to practice the use of Rescue Floats….
This reminded me of when i was a kid and while at the beach once, i was dipping my feet in the water(i'm terrified of going into Oceans now because of what could be in them) and then out of nowhere, i'm yanked from behind by the arm away from the water's edge. I cried out in surprise and pain(cause jesus it freaking hurt) and then heard my mom yelling at me for not seeing something. I legit went "what the heck mom!?" and she told me i was inches from a Jellyfish and did not see it at all. Instant forgiveness there. She thinks it might have been dead because they don't come close to people like that but dead or not, i would've been stung. Thanks mom!
