Netflix's 'The Monkey King' - 2D Sequence | Golden Wolf

- When Netflix came a-knockin and wanted to know if we could help with their upcoming feature film The Monkey King, we couldn’t say yes fast enough!
The film, directed by Oscar nominee Anthony Stacchi, is an exciting, action-packed retelling of the classic Chinese tale: Journey to the West, and working closely with the Netflix team we were tasked with creating a unique vision for Monkey’s demon-fighting montage sequence - a complete stylistic break from the rest of the film and one heavily inspired by traditional Chinese brushwork.
With a lot of blood, sweat and more hand-painted frame-by-frame brush strokes than you can shake a Wacom pen at (yes we did it the HARD way), we created something bold, fluid, tactile, action packed, and ultimately….something we’re all extremely proud of!

absolutely incredible - you can really see the love poured into every single frame of this!!
SUCH A GORGEOUS SEQUENCE THAT CAUGHT ME COMPLETELY OFF GUARD IT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH THE MOVIE IN A HEARTBEAT

This is awesome, but I'm kind of upset they killed the Bull Demon King and the White Bone Spirit
listen listen.... we never actually see bull demon king after he gets hit, and I've read that white bone demon had to be "killed" like 3 times in xiyouji..... so they could have just been Wasted and not actually dead....... and they can return in what I PRAY for that they make a sequel or animated series
That action sequence was great, I loved it, although I would have liked it more if they showed how I defeated them as well as the red girl, that would be more interesting but well, the summarized scene is also great👍🐵.
so this is one of the couple of ways to become one of the gods to defeat 100 demons
That song should definitely be in the next Guitar Hero.

I definitely do know that they are from Journey to the West.
not an expert in any way but I am learning abt them because of my fixation on this movie!
0:13 one-horned demons from Haunted Forest - idk what they are but they were going to have a more prominent role as seen in concept art
0:15 Bull Demon King - based on a guardian of Hell called Ox-Head, also Red Girl's dad
0:27 Scorpion Demoness - had a more prominent role in a deleted scene, she's powerful enough to have stung Buddha one time
0:33 White Bone Spirit - an animated skeleton who can leave behind her human disguises as dead bodies
0:42 Nine-Headed Beast - the original master of Benbo & Babo! I don't know if that's canon to this movie
0:48 Spider Demon - a sister of seven and associated with Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord
0:52 Bear Mountain Lord or Black Wind Demon - there are two black bears in JTTW, though the latter uses a spear
0:55 pitchfork rat ? - there's one rat but she's Lady Earth Flow, a Golden Nosed Albino Rat Spirit. I don't think they're related so it could be a random demon inspired by her
0:56 Tuolong (Water Lizard Dragon) - a nephew of Dragon King, presumably
0:57 Azure Lion - or Lion-Lynx Demon, who is the steed of bodhisattva Manjusri
0:58 Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord - senior of the spider sisters
