Before the "Capablanca saga" videos, i didn't think anything about it....but now I'm ALL about Capablanca!! What a genius! I want to watch ALL of his matches forever if possible...
His the pride of my little Island, Cuba. Capa was one of the greatest genius that ever lived, that's what experts say about him. He crushed some of those arrogants at the San Sebastian tournament. Glad you enjoy chess like me. Adios.
Casablanca reminds me of Carlsen. He’s an endgame monster but also it seems like he knows how to capitalize on the smallest mistake or advantage. Wish he was around today to see him play
This shows how just 1 mistake or inaccuracy can cost you the game against an opponent like Capablanca. Chess is such a beautiful game when played by the best.
One must attempt to increase whatever weakness there may be in the opponent’s position; or, if there is none, one or more must be created. -Jose Raul Capablanca
The more I watch Capa saga the more I realise the greatness of that magnificent chess genius. All what he does seems so easy - the true sign of a genius in any sport or activity.
It is so impressive how Capablanca crushes Blackburne after it was pretty equal before the unexcellently played Nd8. In the end Capa’s position is so overwhelming. His knight sacrifice and pawn push on the kingside is just beautiful.
From now and on all the time expended in Russia and the strenght of the oponents it's going to make a number on Capa. At this point he hasn't arrived to the cuspid, Lasker still "The Man". Great video as always.
Just FYI, "draughts" is pronounced the same as "drafts." In some words, "gh" makes an "f" sound. Enough is the most common example but occasionally you run across others. Thank you for the great content.
This game style of Capa reminds me of AlphaZero themes mentioned in that book you recommended. The superhuman combination of file+diagonal exploitation of Capa is just so awesome! I hope the publishers of Game Changer will somehow compensate you for the increase of their sales. 😊👌
In the italian opening, if black plays 3...Nd4 as you showed; that is Blackburne's own "shilling gambit" the name comes from the money (shillings) he earned by winning games against mostly amateur players with this gambit.
Great job, as always. Big fan. “Hello, everyone” is a trademark on its own now. Q: Why would white want to capture the E5 pawn if the bishop on B5 was hanging?
#suggestion Can you show us the match of Rubinstein vs Alekhine in this first round robin in which Rubinstein lost, or perhaps do an Alekhine series after the Capablanca series since Alekhine is the next world champion chronologically? Fantastic videos as always, Antonio!
What if in the end white doubles up on the g file instead capturing the bishop on g7? Is that just an unspectacular (and thusly not as noteworthy) line to white's victory from that position, or does this give black the chance for counter play?
Yeah imo carlsen is number one because hes one of the few top players that doesnt rely so much on memorised lines. Chess has gotten really boring because of the reliance on engines.
Incredible game pause the game moment I thought for sure Casablanca would just play f5 I should’ve known better he certainly did go about things the faster route Great Game Casablanca Fantastic player thanks Agadmator
Hey agad! #suggestion would It be possible to have a Blackburne saga as well? I'd love to find out more about the "Blackdeath". Ps I have seen the previous videos in the link already :P.
Hey Agad, chess24 just did an event for their 5 year anniversary, they had magnus live stream vs svidler. any chance you can do one those games in your up n coming?
The way the final standings are set up isn't actually the order of the games, It's saying Capa beat the 4th 6th 8th 9th 10th and 11th placed players when he played them, so Blackburne didn't win his last game, but simply his game against Gunsberg (thats why there is the diagonal of stars across the chart, as Lasker cannot play Lasker so he never played the person who finished 2nd during this leg of the tournament)
He was so old, that when he got his haircut as a child, they had chess articles on the wall of the barbershop.

Anyone wondering over the line mentioned in the opening ? Its called Schilling-Kostic Gambit

and the counter of italian game agad mentioned is Blackburne Schilling gambit
named after the guy playing, what a legend

Joseph Henry Blackburne got the nickname the Black Death as he had a large black beard and because of his aggressive style of playing chess

I can't believe the great Akiba didn't qualify! I hope there will be other matches between Capablanca and Rubinstein.
I'm having a wonderfull sunday, thanks for asking!
That pleasant moment when somebody on youtube correctly pronounces German words.
“Why did he resign? Well his pieces are terrible, and white has a forced checkmate so there’s that” 😂
Is the crosstable correct? I thought Lasker DEFEATED Capablanca in St Petersburg in 1914, but this crosstable shows them drawing. Which is correct?
