- Hey thanks for tuning in!
I got the fork installed on the bike and loving it! What a big difference this made for the bike! It handles very well and is easy to set up! Just some footage at Duthie Hill and talking about the fork! I hope you guys enjoy and stay tuned for the next one! Port Gamble is next!
Link for the fork www.jensonusa....
Just received mine today, can't wait to check it out. The reason yours was $300 is because it's 27 inch. The $520 dollar fork is the 29 inch.
Thanks for making these vids! You are the only one I can find on yt who’s actually riding the San Quentin 1! I’m looking at a marzocchi bomber too so I’m excited to watch the vid too!
No problem thanks for watching! Hope all goes well with your build 🤙🏼
Your rear drop out is 141mm QR. some companies maybe like DTswiss offer you to run a 148boost rear hub and they have machined end caps to run your rear skewer QR since the frame is not through axle.
If you look at the new Marin Riftzone “1” it comes 141boost rear wheel/hub but is rear a 148mm boost through axle frame.
I’m not sure in marins description on the SQ1 it says 141qr on your bike and not 141QRboost. Pretty sure it’s the same 141 millimeter spacing weather it says boost or not. The 141 is the “BOOST” spacing from old school 135qr but 135qr can only run a true through axle 142mm which I have on a bike. Only saying this if you want a wheel built up in the future, I struggle to find a built wheel for one of my 135qr x 9mm bikes that’s worth a shit.
@@CasperRc81 true yea the rear is 142 QR Boost. We’ll see what I decide to do, for now I’m pretty happy where it’s at
san Quintin 2 rider here-i just watched a few of your posts-- arm pump-- upgrade you bar and stem set. I have PNW Comp The Range Bar and stem 35mm ... arm pump and numb shoulders gone.
Nice! I’ll look into it I really want new bars too haha thank you! 💯
@earthcoaster6 and 35mm long stem will make the handling a bit more snappy. If you want more compliant bars, go with 31.8 diameter. I recommend the spank vibrocore bars or PNW. I'm running a 50mm rise vibrocore on a 35mm stem, and my hardtail is super comfy. You can always raise your stem up and down with spacers to be comfy. Because I'm tall, my stem is as high up as I can get it haha.
Sweeet. SQ1 owner here (2021), upgraded with a Yari. Agree with all the observations you made with yours! Can you tailwhip and roost by the way? Trying to learn these on mine
hell yea nice! i honestly haven't really tried to learn either! but i feel like i can roost better than i can whip haha
@@earthcoaster6coming back to ur vid again haha. Curious what you use for brakes on this SQ? Im considering moving up from the stock Tektro lol
Hi man great video :)
But I have one question, are you sure about the tire clearance?
I also have a San Quentin 1 (but from 2021, the previous one) with 27.5 x 2.6" tires, but I couldn't find any info on Marzocchi's website about the tire clearance. And the webstore "bike-components" says the max tire size for this fork is 2.5".
Also Marin sells its San Quentin 3 with the Bomber z2 AND 2.5" tires. So I don't know.
What do you think?
Thank you I appreciate it!
It fits 2.6! My stock tire size is 27.5 x 2.60 👍🏼
@@earthcoaster6 Good to have your confirmation. I was worried about it and +450€ is a lot for me ahah
Have a great day!
How are you going with sag and travel use? I have a z2 150mm and im having trouble using the last 40mm travel if set up to my weight and I get insane arm pump too..
I have it set at 90psi with one volume puck. For my weight they reccommend 105psi and two volume reducers.. The rear shock will come 2mm to bottom out off a 2ft drop to flat, but the fork has 40-50mm travel left.
If I drop the pressure down to 70psi i use the same amount of travel front and rear (a few mm from bottom out) but the fork dives theough 120mm travel braking and i have to run 80% lockout to stop diving.
No matter I do, if i set sag on the fork to 15-20% it hardly uses its travel on big hits but is fine on slow speed stuff.
@@lucideuphoria7092 I set it according to my weight & I feel like it’s fine, I don’t really pay attention to all the minute details to be honest, I wish I could help you out more but I don’t know too much about setting up suspension like that
@@earthcoaster6 turned out being an issue with the negative spring. The shop put too much float fluid in the air chamber and the negative spring wasn't filling/equalising properly.
Should have been obvious when the fork came back at 165mm not 150 and rebound was faster than usual with minor top out. I pulled the air spring apart and used an average amount of slick honey and a wee bit of float fluid and the fork is now sitting at 150mm and uses most of its travel.
Also need to be 6 clicks off closed now on rebound vs the 2 before.
I swapped mine with the pike select+ matte black, looks so much better also is so much lighter compared to stock
Hell yea nice choice! 💯🤙🏼
Glad to hear you like the Marzocchi Bomber Z2 I have one on my Timberjack and my husband just got one for his Growler. In fact he just got it today and we tested it out over at Port Gamble. We plan on going to Duthie Hill so if you see a tall girl on a black Timberjack that's me.
Awesome! Yea maybe I’ll see you guys around 🤙🏼😎
I just ordered one for my older San Quentin 1. Did you have to get any brake brackets or anything?
I didn’t need anything extra, I took my bike to a local shop so they can install it but I’m pretty sure they didn’t need extra parts for it to fit
if your hub is non boost, youll need adapters
Nice same fork on my SQ3, I’m going add a volume spacer to mine they have a volume spacer kit for the airside.
There nice and plush but I need more progression after mid stroke to bottom. Nice looking with the flat stansion’s on your bike wishing mine had the red stansion’s I went with red accents white/black/red decals🫰
Yea I might add one just to see the difference haha
Yo Im looking to buy a san quentin 1 but I worry about the QR rear axle strength. How did yours held up?
never had any issues with the rear axle! the bike is pretty solid after the upgrades i did and i feel like its taken some pretty big hits since i would jump it a lot
@@earthcoaster6 thanks, thats really reassuring to hear.I was a bit sceptic about it but i think im gonna buy it now! :D
How was the fork. Whats the update? Is it absorbing small bumps? Thanks
The fork is awesome I’m glad I upgraded it! Absorbs a whole lot of roots, rocks & jumps a lot better than the stock fork
@@earthcoaster6 thank u sir for the response. Keep riding
One more thing sir, did you put foam rings on it?
@@francisalbina5278 nah I don’t have foam rings on it, I just tip my bike on the back wheel before I ride to make sure oil gets to where it needs to be
It looks sooo good! I wish they released the 2 or 3 with that color scheme.
Edit: How much lighter does your front end feel?
Thank you! I know it fits way better!
I don’t notice much of a weight difference although it is lighter on paper but the performance was a game changer haha
What camera do you use? It really does the brutal speed you’re going justice.
thanks! im using the insta360 X3! chin mount and adjusting the angle afterwards helps with the sense of speed
I wish the 3 came with this color scheme. Good looking bike
The 3 is also super sick!
My bike has a mozarchi bomber z2, can you give me the mozarchi set up sheet please
cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1640/5435/files/605-00-207_RevA_Z2_TuningGuide-Bomber-z2.pdf?1344 hope this helps
@@earthcoaster6 how many clicks of rebound does yours have? The manual says 10 but mine has like 20 clicks XD
@@dailylifevlogs6395 so what you can do to find the middle which is where I have it is turn the full 20 clicks one way & the go back 10 & that will put you right in the middle & from there if you want more or less you know which way to turn it 🤙🏼
im convinced
ordered a z1 for 416 dollars, absolutely cant say no to that
nice deal! enjoy it!
@@earthcoaster6 itarrives on the 25th.super hyped
dat fork is actually pretty shiet.... i had one before and swapped out with RS pike. it's a day and night difference
Yea the Pike is an awesome fork but it’s almost double the price what I paid for the Marzocchi, also I’m pretty happy with it hopefully it treats me well haha
I’m glad you were able to upgrade your bike too!
