I rented this bike for a day! Everyone at biking roots are very nice. Only got to ride for about 2 hours due to work but felt great. The geometry is very confidence inspiring, the only downside is low BB so pedal strike happened a few times. I did wish for a dropper post through out the ride though.
Thanks for the comment, compliments, and for renting! Glad you had fun and sorry we had not yet put a dropper post on it! That is on our to do list. Take care
Good question. For most people, no. Even some of the pros and people that really understand bikes can't tell much of a difference between offset with most riding conditions. Generally I advise people to stay close to the stock offset when swapping the fork, but sometimes you can find a great deal on usually higher offset forks.
Thank you for the reply! I’ll keep looking around or waiting for a sale on a fork. I’m not really hitting many jumps yet, so the stock fork has been fine for me as this is my first mtb.
Hey there! I have SQ1 2019 version. I just bought new fork recently - X-Fusion RC32 130mm Tapered for 27.5 wheel size. Unfortunately, i am not able to mount it properly... I saw one of your comments on 2020 version, and you said that new headset is needed. Is it same case for 2019 version? On Marin website, in the specifications for my bike i found FSA Orbit No. 57E headset, but i hardly doubt i got the same headset... mine is literally no-name, so i can't even check any info about it. Would i need to buy new headset also? Is it going to resolve my problem? If yes, could you please recommend me some pretty cheap and fitable headset for my bike! Thank you in advance!!
Thanks for the question, sorry for the late reply. So I’ve used this headset a bunch amzn.to/3HtlrFc Those I believe came with loose ball bearings as well so you would just need to punch out the cups in the frame for old headset, then press in the new ones from the fsa 1.5zs. They are more expensive but much better staying clean and working smoothly so I’d recommend putting one it instead of another loose ball setup. Good luck!
@@BikingRoots Just before your reply I bought Accent HSI Air. I changed whole headset and now everything is working perfectly and very smooth :) Thx for help anyways!
@@BikingRoots I can't wait till I can order it! The new geo more towards a DJ sold me on it. Would have went with the 1 for the tan color but as I mentioned the 2 and 3 have a better frame and boost
Yup, they are pretty sweet. Yeah it would be nice to have more color options in the 2 and the 3 but oh well. We are getting a 3 tomorrow as well so we’ll check them both out and see how they look
@@BikingRoots Do you know when the 3 is available to be ordered through Marin's website? The 2 released 2 weeks ago I think, but I can't find anything on the 3..
@@PureRiding Yeah according to their inventory they only have a couple left in like a small and xl. I don’t have an ETA when they will get more and be available to order on the site. I imagine they are fulfilling backorders with the initial shipments (so they were pre-sold to dealers like ours for customers).
4:20 dude, blocks from my house, it got very very bad, a lot of devastation. On my way back from work, I passed through some of the places on the pics you showed, literally about a mile from my house
wow, so sorry to hear. It could have easily happened to us. I hope your house was ok and that those that lost property can get it repaired or replaced soon. That is a tough situation. As if Houston didn’t have enough issues with hurricanes and floods!
yup, you could! You would just need to buy a new headset as the one on that generation of san quentin is for a non tapered fork (the fork that is on it has a reducer to allow it to work on the frame/straight fork).
The san quentin 1 frame and wheel are 141mm quick release axles so not thru axle or boost. You cannot convert either so if you want thru axle and boost spacing, you need to move to the san quentin 2 or 3
@@BikingRoots the recon would do fine honestly. Jus checking the weight the suntour xcm that came on mine are over 7 lbs. Good to get you started and acquainted but way too heavy for such a slack head tube angle putting all the weight far in front of you!!
What fork would you install on your San Quentin?
If I wanted another hardtail.. I'd likely use a Bomber Z2 since I have a nice one just sitting around awaiting a home.
Oh nice. Yeah I’ve had zero issues with any z2s and they feel nice even with the rail damper.
Are you able to fit a Z2 bomber 150mm fork on these? Or would I need the San Quentin 2 or 3 in the 2023 model. Thanks
Bought a used rockshox 35 gold for 200€, massive upgrade compared to the suntour.
@@_tom_dirt_ nice, yeah those are nice and much better than the stock fork. Enjoy!
I actually like those green pedals on it 😍.
Ha glad someone does
did the exact same thing to my bike made such a difference
Oh nice! Right on, glad it made a difference for you. Take care

Are you gonna do a video on the 3?
Yes it will be the next video! We just received the 2 and the 3 yesterday. Will probably go live Tues. thanks
Does the change in offset matter? The stock fork has a 37mm offset. The reason I’m asking is I have a 2021 san Quentin 1

@@herodam7188 Oh nice, congrats. Good, hope you like it and it works out well for you. Cheers
I'll most likely going to get the 2 because of the Frame and standard boost on the back. I would most likely get a fox 34 or z2 down the road
Nice yeah that’s a good choice. Our first one arrives tomorrow! Stay tuned for the video. Yeah a z2 would be nice or 34 of course

@@MTBAlex glad to hear, yeah I feel terrible for those displaced.
I would’ve kept the coil. Looks biffier than a Recon.
It does look beefier and bigger stanchions but for me the black looks better, lighter, and feels so much better

Is that marin available in 29er?
The San Quentin? No it is 27.5 only
What offset did you go with?
46mm offset is the only option I saw for the 27.5 130 option. Felt good but not sure if I’d notice a different offset!
Is this a medium frame
Yup, medium frame!
LOL She likes your shoes
Haha, yeah that was pretty funny
Does it has rear axles ?

I'm gonna be that guy
I know you have helmets. So why aren't you wearing them while doing wheelies on the pavement!? 😅
Yes you are that guy! I know, you are absolutely right. Going forward, we will have helmets on even for parking lot shenanigans
New fork required.. way too heavy
Another new fork or are you referring to the Recon?
