Agreed. Hard to argue. I wonder what the total salary is of all the NFL officials' other jobs. They already make 200k a year (~12k/game). I would already not have another job making that money lol. There are 121 NFL officials. Let's be generous and say their other jobs earn each, on average 115,000. If the NFL simply replaced all their income streams from other jobs and made them full time, so their total takehome is the same, it would be an extra 14 million. Doesn't seem like much to the 18 billion dollar behemoth that is the nfl. Maybe it because of benefit packages and things as well. The money part simply doesn't make sense to me. They shell out for everything else and they skimp on refs? I don't get it.

I'll say that if the NFL wants to go to 18+games, NFLPA needs to push for two things: Guaranteed contracts and all grass fields.
Players should be pushing for the fully guaranteed contracts if theyre expected to really put their careers at more risk with more games.

I agree 100% with you guys that the NFL ought to have FULL TIME OFFICIALS. It's a NO-BRAINER that an official (anybody) is going to be MUCH more proficiant performing his craft when he does it, and only it, FULL TIME as opposed to occasiionally !!!!!!!!!
I was a full-time member of the military, and at a few postings I would also work as "merely" a high school football official. We spent an intense several weeks throughout the summer going over the rule book every year and taking a NATIONAL TEST based upon that annually updated high school rule book. We had to score highly enough OR WE WERE INELIGIBLE TO OFFICIATE GAMES. Once the season began, it was a given that we would continue to meet for @ 4 hours after work EVERY WEEK to go over the previous weekend's games -- ALL of them. We discussed various scenarios that had arisen and reinforced how to call various scenarios (we did a lot of that BEFORE the season and during pre-season too, so it was really only fine-tuning (IF needed at all) during the regular season. If we missed the weekly meetings, we were also INELIGIBLE to officiate games the following weekend. And we were only low-paid part-time officials who had other "real jobs" by day and officiated games solely because we loved the game. We were actually pretty good ... but only a fool would contend we couldn't be even better if that was our ONLY job !!!

With an 18 game schedule we could have games everyday Sunday‐Thursday. Say they started week 6 Tuesday and Wednesday with the teams that had a bye week 5, between weeks 5 and 6 they would have 9-10 days between games and when they play week 7 they would have 11-12 days between games. While week 6 is technically their bye, they would get more rest on the back end of their game after the bye week.

This is what I would love to see:
32 team NFL plays a 22 game season schedule every year -- 11 home, 11 away games
    a) Each team plays 18 games within its own conference, and (as presently set up), 4 games with a rotational division from the other conference (e.g., AFC East vs NFC West)
    (1) the 4 games against the rotational division in the other conference are the FIRST 4 games of the schedule for EVERY team, and occur during the month of August (taking the spot of the former pre-season games)
    (2) ALL games MUST be played at night -- or at air-conditioned indoor stadiums -- to combat summer heat strokes
    (3) ALL games take place before final roster cuts (final cuts occur prior to the start of the 18 game conference schedule)
    (4) ALL games MUST feature NON-STARTING players, rookies, undrafted free agents, other free agents, etc. for AT LEAST HALF of each game; the other 50% is within the team's discretion how much/little they want the starters to play (if at all)
    (5) ALL games "count" for the record books, BUT NOT for determining which teams qualify for their own conference playoff berths at the end of the regular season (because the objective is for each conference to determine which of its teams deserve a conference playof slot based upon the teams within the conference earning the best records based upon everyone playing common opponents [and not every team plays the same teams from the other conference] -- some are better than others)
    b) The 18 conference games are broken down thus:
    (1) Teams within divisions still play their division opponants 2x per regular season -- home and away, 6 total games: 3 home, 3 away
    (2) The remaining 12 conference games are 1x match-ups every season
    (3) the 6 home games in season 1 (half the teams from each other division in the same conference) become the 6 away games (the other half of the teams from each other division in the same conference) in season 2; likewise, the 6 away games in season 1 become the 6 home games in season 2. The schedule keeps alternating this way every other year.
    (4) This arrangement preserves long-standing traditional divisional rivalries with extra games, while also ensuring that EVERY team faces EVERY TEAM in its OWN CONFERENCE EVERY SEASON. It also preserves the NFL rotational model that fans get to see every team from the opposing conference every 8 years.
    c) 8 teams from EACH conference qualify for the conference playoffs -- the best 8 teams based upon the head-to-head conference schedule
    (1) NO 'byes; a "bye" is too great of an advantage in a leage with so much parity.
    (2) Ordinarily, the first 4 slots/"home teams" for Round 1 of the playoffs are the 4 division winners within the Conference; the 4 remaining teams are the next 4 teams with the best records in the head-to-head conference schedule
    (3) However, a "Division Champion" is susceptible to LOSE its automatic playoff qualifiaction IF it posts a LOSING record during the conference season schedule. Here is what is required for that to happen:
    (a) the "Division Champion" posts a LOSING record in the conference schedule;
    (b) a would-be Wild Card team that has "just missed" the playoff cut nonetheless:
    (1) has a BETTER record than that "Division Champion" by AT LEAST 3 games, AND
    (2) DEFEATED that "Division Champion" head-to-head that season, then
that would-be Wild Card team qualifies for a Wild Card position, the "Division Champion" misses the playoffs, and the Wild Card team with the best record qualifies as lowest-seeded "home" playoff team during the first round of the playoffs
    (4) The highest seeded teams remaining alive in the playoffs after each round get to host the next round game(s)

What a weak interviewer Macafee is, didn’t fallow up with anything other than “got it”. And I don’t care if I spelled his name wrong.

Florio has a pathological hatred for billionaires. The other major leagues have the same setup. I don't understand what he is so upset about other than my opening line.

Goodell is a snake with a forked tongue. Despite the incredible athletes today I would rather watch a Football game from 30 years ago. The NFL today is all about the entertainment dollars first, second, and third.
