The number one for living luxurios is: cleaning! That's the hotel feeling, fresh towels, room service... Every room looks better when cleaned. No matter if studio apartment or big mansion. A smaller investment you can make are unified, high quality towels. 600 density or even higher. White is classic because they can be bleached, but stick to one colour and splurge one time. Donate your clean, mish mash but still good towel collection to an animal shelter. They always need towels.
The shower thing is so spot on. One apartment complex I once lived in had the bathroom designed that way and entering the bathroom always felt light and airy to me.
It’s actually healthier to shower first before going into a tub (if you’ve seen skid marks in your underwear, you will understand how important it is to get rid of that BEFORE going into a tub)
Wow, me & my friend were just speaking of the Bellagio! Haven’t been there in several years!! Love how they’ve updated their rooms!! Very nice!! Love your tips Kiva, especially about lighting! Thanks!
Definitely lighting options are a big piece of that multifunction space like a hotel room, just stayed somewhere with the sink outside the shower/toilet room that was directly in front of the door - this actually worked well because it functioned as an entryway table with mirror as well as the sink. They had a light centered over the vestibule, a light centered over the sink, and a light built into the mirror! All within a 4'x4' square space.
KB, with much respect how you personally present yourself in these videos ensures creditability - your clothing attire and voice tone is crucial, i was unbable to finsih watching this video
KB the room is beautiful, even with soooo much going on in it. That bathroom is amazing!!!! KB you do such a great job, I excited to see the process of where your career takes you
FYI Bellagio is a small town on Lake of Como , placed right on the starting of ramification of the lake. The name means litterally "Nice staying" "nice place to stay" .
The most important thing about that pop of color coming from the orange chair is that it is a subtle "pop." It also blends with the room, and not just because the idea is echoed in the luggage stand. They chose a rusty, earthy tone, so it doesn't draw the eye from the rest of the decor, and doesn't require an exact match in its echo. It looks like it belongs in the room, while still providing some color interest. Perfect balance between bold and blending.
You are sooooo right about technology! I liked your advice about doing something to hide the TV (or at least distract from it). I did my small living room in mid-century modern but I had an out-of-place 32" black flat-screen TV. I'm not handy and don't have many tools, so I had the good folks at Home Depot cut some wood and I bought some stain, wood glue, and legs for the project, and I built a shallow (12" deep) television cabinet that sits against the wall and encases the screen. It doesn't even have any doors, but because the screen is encased in a low wood cabinet with legs, it evokes the 1960's without being bulky. Ha-ha. A neighbor asked me if it was a fireplace and I said, "No! It's a TV!"
Love this video! Such a great idea to discuss hotel decor with the hotels designers. I only go to boutique hotels with great design. It’s so inspiring. Great video, Kiva! Love it.
Good video. Love the murals over the beds and the shower. Interestingly, I can’t remember that I even turned on a tv in a hotel (even pre-pandemic). We watch our lap top or tablet for anything we need. I’m wondering when TVs won’t be a part of hotel rooms.
Shower curtains are my pet peeve. Even my tub shower has a frameless glass wall without a door that addresses the water sprinkles that will occur while showering.
Great video. I stay at the Bellagio every year and I was disappointed that they removed the tub & shower combo. But I understand the esthetic of the times and now I appreciate the changes. The Bellagio has always been up to date with the modern style with the conventional style into one!
As for mattresses, a lot of hotels actually post online which ones they buy! I just found hotel quality pillows that sleep like a dream that I will be sharing soon!
Ty so much for this. I’ve always been curious about the brands and design that high end hotels use. What are the mattresses they buy and what is comparable that we would find comparable with the same comfort. Ty so much KB.
I love your channel. You give such great ideas and design accents. Thank you. I actually want to now go to Vegas just to see the Bellagio. Fabulous video as usual.
Love the TV idea. I know I would love a video on how to de-emphasize the TV. Most of us do have to live with a TV because we or important members of our family watch TV on the regular. Knowing how to make it about more appealing would be helpful.
This is an amazingly exciting collaboration! Kiva I am really impressed. The bedroom & bathroom is beautifully, elegantly & luxuriously designed...also smartly planned & appointed. I could visit there, I can live there, except that its my aim to bring a bathtub into my life. I feel cheated when there is no bathtub at home. But I would thoroughly enjoy myself inthat Ambiance as a guest.🤩🤩
KB you are The Queen of Clean Line Chic! Always thought of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino has tacky. So wrong! The designer are very classy, it look like place were Aerin Lauder, India Hicks, and the late Cicely Tyson, Diana Carroll, Audrey Hepburn would love.
What is the table height he was referring to that was edited out?? Also, call me crazy but I am dead set against clear glass enclosures around the shower. My shower time is my personal time where I wanna relax, shave, scrub n exfoliate, lather up, etc... and I just feel super uncomfortable knowing that someone may need to use the bathroom or grab something real quick and I don't want to be gawked at while I'm in a not so good "pose", ESPECIALLY while shaving my lady parts!! I hate the feeling of feeling like I'm on display. Any thoughts or ideas on something thats just as airy but yet private?

If you have an open concept and stainless steel appliances and cabinets pulls, can you bring brass into the living area? I would love to add the brass sofa light from RH. Would that work?
I dont know how electrical points can be incorporated in furniture. Especially I am a person who loves to change layout but I hate seeing switches & cords. Any suggestions

The shower might look light and airy, but I hate endlessly wiping down huge glass doors. No thank you. I pull my shower curtain to the side and it looks just fine.
No tubs ?! How do those of us who don’t shower get clean? Showering feels like turning on a fire hose on me - anxious making the minute I see there is no tub. If this trend continues my choice of hotels gets smaller and smaller. DESIGNERS, please reserve a few rooms with tubs. Deep ones, so make sure the overflow drain is nice & high. MAJOR stress relief to get up to my neck in hot water. If you stock bubble bath you’ll be my idol.

Yes more please. I just left a cabin themed hotel. Cute but that theme life is eww. Btw Hotels use a lot of wall paper.
Your comments on the importance of various types of lighting were illuminating!
I love the word play! Also, thank you! Lighting is so important and really transforms a space.
Ba dum dum.
I need a bath tub !! There is no negotiation. Health before looks. I love the multiple use rooms and a lots of light.
Health matters! They also suggested that you separate your bathtub and shower.
When children are small you need a tub. Once they're older, no more tubs.
I am retired and love my tub. I don't want to see water spots or product bottles so I am team shower curtain.
