The Golf Grip and Pressure Points - Unlock the Key to Better Golf

  • THE GRIP matters!
    The Grip is often described as the most important basic fundamental to get right when it comes to learning to play golf. While I would not consider there to be one perfect grip (Stack & Tilt describes the grip as a variable, not a fundamental), I do see it as a VITALLY important component in the bigger picture of playing better golf.
    The Grip is the only contact you have with the golf club and the way you place your hands on the club will directly influence how the wrists and arms will move - which in turn will influence the CLUB FACE - and reaching any level of competence in golf requires you to learn some form of CLUB FACE CONTROL.
    This video discusses some of the lesser discussed areas of the grip, such as PRESSURE POINTS and GRIP PRESSURE - factors that I believe are vastly misunderstood and lead to many common errors when it comes to GRIP and GRIP PRESSURE. The Golfing Machine book describes these PRESSURE POINTS and how they directly aid the golfer in acquiring, storing, and releasing power into the ball, while helping golfers to learn the essential skill of club face control.
    Discuss these ideas with your coach and explore the option of a grip change to unlock major improvements in your ball striking and shot shaping.

    After watching many videos, you are the first one that talks about pressure points which is exactly how it feels like.
    Keep those videos up and I'll keep my handicap down

    Glad to see you have your own channel again Rob! Good video on the grip. I recall you talking about using a weaker grip when pitching & I did so & it really helped. One never sees anything about the grip on the putter & it seems to me there are multiple ones like the claw which leave me baffled.

    Great lesson on the grip Rob - Thank you !
    It looks like you are using a short thumb . Is that correct?
    Can you touch on the pros/cons of long thumb vs short thumb ? Do you advocate short thumb always ?
    Thanks again !

    • @robcheneygolf1
      @robcheneygolf1  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I prefer short/medium thumb. Longer thumbs tend to create too much radial deviation which moves the wrist more into extension and opens the club face.

      I see other youtubers/Television personalities advocate the long thumb but never mention the left wrist extension / cupping

    I changed from 2-3 (Brian Sparks) to 5-6. felt good, but still find it difficult to relax arms and shoulders. What should I do to keep it at 6 and relax still?
    Thanks!

    Thanks Rob! Quick question - do you have an opinion on clubface at setup v clubface at impact? I have ever lived my grip to slightly stronger and also with the face slightly closed at address to get me square at impact

    • @robcheneygolf1
      @robcheneygolf1  5 месяцев назад

      They can certainly be different to each other. I would typically use the grip to match the desire IMPACT club face to how it looks at address (just as you are describing).
