I would like to see the Season 5 gear list. 80 meters of paracord is twice what they allowed in most previous seasons, and four times what was allowed in Season 1.
The Wooded Beardsman it looks like a lot of bows. If it is anything like Siberia when I was there, there is not much. IDK how many hunters there are but they will have to really know their stuff and adapt to different game habits in a new area. I'm thinking no.
I have to agree. It's hard enough to shoot an animal with a gun much of the time, doing it hungry with the bows they let them have isn't likely. Maybe someone actually gets a snack this year i.e. a rabbit or hare or other small game. Enough for 300-400 calories leaned out. They keep saying there is a lot of game to snare...only need 3 rabbits a day! If you eat the brain...3. If you're smart, you know how to pluck the hair and eat the skin, something I've forced myself to learn.
Fowler boiled the fish heads down and ate the bones and all. In season 4 Brooke and Dave got plenty of food but was not palatable for them so they had to tap, where the brothers that won the show ate any rubbish. Ants insects, rodents will be on the dinner plate.
Anthony Visconte I agree, I wish all the items from each contestant was identified by make and model, but I have a feeling not all the contestants could report this. I would estimate that most of the contestants are not really into gear like some of us are. Nonetheless it would be neat to see a master list detailing specifically what each item is. I'm surprised they haven't released the gear list for season 5 yet. I keep checking the site but nothing. The History Channel has always done a poor job at promotting the Alone show in my opinion. With that said, season five looks to be very entertaining!
I wouldn’t even call it 1095, the trace amounts of vanadium, chromium and molybdenum added change the metallurgical properties of the steel dramatically. On a side note, Kabar heat treats their knives close to 58 hrc, so the knife simply cannot perform as well as a well made knife that has a higher hardness.

one of the few that wasn't a complete disappointment this season. the should of called it "people starving themselves" or "the fat guy's gonna win" instead of alone this season.

Wonder what restrictions there were on hunting? There were lots of tracks in the snow and the big game seemed to travel at night. Could a contestant hunt at night?
I came here for the same reason. He is a horrid shot and has no business pointing that at an animal. Also his attitude is selfish and non caring. He has left a deer to die a slow death and be in pain the rest of its life with his arrow sticking out of its body. Hope he goes home soon.
is there a restrain in the so call modern items ? i mean after watching 7 seasons i honestly wud just bring a lighter n a gun instead of the fire rod n bow. all 7 seasons it had pretty much come down to staying dry/warm ability to eat n mentally handles loneliness
I know this is old but the length of any extra rope is taken from the paracord. It's in the rule list. So if you have a couple inches of rope elsewhere they will cut the paracord.
Guy probably should have already known how to use a bow and arrow before choosing it and pretending. Not exactly a situation where you want to fake it until you make it. "Plunking" or "lobbing" arrows is never going to work. Seems like the guy chose it twice no less...and obviously never once bothered learning how to ACTUALLY use it outside of the show. Dude was building fires in a completey enclosed shelter with no ventilation. That's just not what I'd consider "smart".
Great list of items, Britt. I'm a little surprised you only took 12-lb test mono fishing line. Seems a little light to me. Congrats for lasting 35 days. Looking forward to watching the series!
From watching alot of these 10items shorts on You Tube i see everyone bringing the same 10 items so i think the show tells them things like all multitools have to be from Leatheman, ect i think they are showcasing various sponsors,producers of the show, otherwise i think that there would be a greater variety in personal choice equipment. Like almost everyone brings an axe, but in my opinion a good machete would be better has more uses. But no one ever brings one, also i would guess that all the kinds of folding saws they pick come from one company, at least they seem to. So i think you cant bring just anykind of personal equipment, that it has to be an approved brand item. Also no one brings one of those Specknaz combat throwing shovels that is also a saw and a axe as well as a shovel.

Well this is fixing to be a boring season. Almost every person is bringing a bow, multitool, trapping wire, knife, axe, paracord, saw, and a pot. I know that these are essential to survival and should probably be included in a kit, but it would be nice to see someone bringing something weird. This show isn't as entertaining without someone gambling that their chapstick is better than a knife.
J Logan 1. It was a hyperbole. I don't expect them to literally bring chapstick 2. It's a TV show. The primary goal should be entertainment and I am not entertained by several people doing the same thing until they stab themselves. I would be entertained if some guy brought climbing equipment and spent 2 months Tarzanning his way around the woods.

J Logan I can understand that. I just think that trying unorthodox, yet practical methods would be far more entertaining. They should bring on someone who trained with throwing knives so much that he doesn't bring a bow. Someone who brings a trashbag instead of a backpack. The little things that make them different from any other survivalist. Plenty of people on RUclips do things like this show. It would be nice if the show had some memorable people. I don't want it to be unrealistic, but I do want to see more variety.

The Producers should not let untrained people pack bows who take ridiculous wild shots at a deer in the river that they can't possibly kill cleanly. If you wounded the deer then how are you then going to cross the river? If you somehow were lucky enough to kill it, how would you swim down river and than cross the river to retrieve it? Just let it suffer In guess. C'mom Producers. These aren't the most qualified out of 5000 applicants are they?

Yeah we typically throw away the good, fatty stuff and the bones. That's because fats are abundant in our every day diets.

The bright colors of paracord can be improvised to make a jig or a fly type of lure...maybe even mimick a small worm or snake.

Mongolia has the largest trout in the world (taimen), a real big one will be a bit of a struggle on 12lb. Usually 12lb is good enough for fresh water.

Multitool as the name suggests MULTIPLE tools and a smaller blade for fine carving work or delicate cutting then the bigger knife for larger chopping

Does the rule allow crossbows? Easier to aim and usually stronger, which would guarntee easier kills.
